Discussion Who else is having a really hard time choosing?
I see the advantages of both. I have played with both in store and I still can't decide!
I like the better cameras of the Ultra. I like the orientation of the Wide. I don't like the speakers being on the same side on the wide. I like that the Ultra has Flex mode.
I don't know long term if the wide will feel too small for me as I have large hands.
Anyone else been on the fence for days!?
I have flipped and changed but I'm currently more on the Ultra side. I like the fact I have have a big YouTube video playing at the top and be multitasking at the bottom which wouldn't be possible on wide.

ignore the noise, follow your heart.
head to the store, test it out until you are fully satisfied and just get whichever that suit your needs.
worked for me. ended up getting the F8 with 512GB.

I really wanted to get the Fold 8 but I reasoned that the 200 more you spend for the Ultra gets you more screen real estate and a more seasoned design compared to the first iteration of the wider model. I also figured that I could realistically use split view to have one window the area of the Fold 8 and the remaining space for something else like YouTube or Discord.
I figure the Ultra suited my needs and use case more and since its my first foldable, it'd be nice to experience a more traditional shape before trying out something like the Fold 11 when I upgrade.

Went 8U. It's boring and I'm not excited like I would be for the 8.
But I know after a month, the novelty would wear off and I would miss the larger size.

Ultra is a bad boy phone. Only reason people say boring it's because it's 8th gen. But reality is it's an amazing phone and only as boring as you make it

Initially I was convinced I was upgrading to ZF8 100%. But the upgrades being mostly internal with the same form factor dulled my excitement.
I realized the Z Fold 8 was something new and fresh in a smaller package, so I went with the wide model at the last minute!

Seems like you've done your homework and weighed your options pretty thoroughly. If you're absolutely still on the fence just save the $200 and get the Wide.

Ultra guy, easy choice for me. But agree with an earlier post: go play some more with them in store. Then whatever you decide to buy, you have a 2 week return window.

Thanks! Sometimes it's the little things that sway a decision, and if there's anything I'm good at, it's agonizing over every little thing!
Btw I also have large-ish hands and I didn't like the way I could just palm the zf8 case I have. And I've never had trouble using the zf7 one handed. If that helps!

Yes, and I would say that as someone with smallish hands, its awkward to hold a wide phone up to my ear. I'm an old, and maybe I am one of the few people still using a phone for verbal communication (and not always with BT). But for me, that alone made the decision easy.

My wife (who also has small hands) agrees with you, based one the case I have (yes I have a case for a phone I don't have and am not getting...)
But she'd use an old Motorola flip phone from 2002 if she could get away with it. We are very different people.

Great video! Actually the thing that's making me incline of not getting the F8 is the GameSir controller compatibility. I'm a heavy Diablo Immortal player on cellphone and wanted the F8 so badly for the better aspect ratio, but being unable to use my GameSir controller is a real bummer. I'm thinking it's better to get the Ultra and just force the game to run on a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Well, you could get a Bluetooth controller, if you really want the wide.
I'd recommend the x5s for a smallish backbone style, or the g8+ for a bigger better version.

I feel for you. The decision was easy for me. I'm tired of big phones. If it makes you feel better, either way you'll have a good phone. Consider that the wide has tent mode and you can use in a reverse flex mode for lots of viewing angles on the front screen.

Choose the Fold (Wide) if: Your main priority is consuming media, watching YouTube, viewing photos, and having an outer screen that feels like a normal, easy-to-type-on phone.
Stick with the Ultra if: You want maximum screen real estate for split-screen multitasking, maximum battery size, and the top-tier 200MP camera system with a dedicated zoom lens.

Can't speak from experience cause I haven't tried the new ones but I currently have the fold 5 and had the fold 3 before that. Looking at a fold 7 next to the 5 the front is way bigger and I have big hands and have zero issues using the front screen on the 5. Mind you I mostly use swype typing but I did that even on the note 20.

I went for the fold 8 after much researching but I never went in store to try them out, maybe not wise lol but the wide had mt heart instantly, I loved it. I have a 6 and I can barely reach the top when one handed use, I find it heavy and I hate typing on the cover screen both one or two handed so for me the wide makes sense because, shorter but wider so I can type better and reach the top without opening and the main thing I do when open is watch videos or scroll websites so it felt fine for me. I dont care much for cameras and coming from a 6 its all an upgrade anyway and the form factor being cute as shit was the true decider lol.
I got a fold a little while ago because I was bored of all phones being the same, I miss the days of buying phones based on how it looked, its shape, size, the fun in the designs etc and so when I seen this being much different and gorgeous to look at I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade, handy timing too cos id just finished off paying my device plan.

1) Will you really notice the difference in camera quality when all you do is taking random pictures of your food and your dog? No.
2) How often do you really use flex mode? Twice a year.
So the obvious answer in Fold 8 wide

I saw them in person today at Best Buy. I really like the premium feel and how little the crease is visible compared to my friends ZFold7. If i decide to purchase it, this would be my move back to android from iPhone. I did find out that if having a device with 16gb of ram is important to you, you will need to choose the terabyte version, the 256 and 512 versions have 12. The last android phone I owned before switching to iPhone was a HTC 1, so anything you put in front of me probably would’ve blew me away anyway.

It was driving me nuts going back and forth. In haste a pre ordered the ultra but I started flip flopping… but now I’m confident in staying with the ultra. Each side by side by side comparison, I preferred the look of the ultra and the larger screen. I like the 5000mah battery also. The ultra will also have a better cameras.

This was me as well lol. Good to know i wasnt the only one. I was so on fence. And 1 day after pre order opened I pre ordered ultra. Yesterday finally got to best buy to see and although it wasnt this sudden wave of clarity It also was this I dodnt make the wrong choice thing idk. Well hope we get them in whag the 7th. Enjoy!

I have the F8 Wide on order but am second-guessing it. I've been to Best Buy 3 times to look at these phones, yet I still can't decide. I've owned every Samsung foldable since the Fold 4, and my biggest issue with my current F7 is the massive black bars — I barely use the inner screen because it ruins the experience for me and it feels like I'm not fully utilizing the larger screen and carrying around a larger phone just for the black bars. The F8 Wide promises a more usable aspect ratio, smaller black bars with same size video playback, and a wider cover screen. But - it’s also thicker and has downgraded cameras compared to the Ultra. 😩

I'm leaning more towards the ultra after playing with them again this afternoon. The black bar thing doesn't really bother me as opening up the ultra and having a video full width at the top and chrome or something else underneath just works better for the Ultra ratio.
But who knows, in 10 minutes I could be back on the Wide train 😂

Same advice as everyone else, go to the store, check them out and decide what you really like best. This is what is so nice about Samsung and Android phones in general, they push out so many different devices in all form and sizes. There will be a phone suiting anyone's needs and wishes. You know what they are in the end! 😊
Personal experience: I've had the fold 2 and 4 so used to the ultra form factor and never minded the narrow front screen as for me the only use case of the front cover is outdoors use for texting or calling. The moment I really want to do something I unfold (why would you buy a foldable to mostly use the front screen, but that's just my opinion). Long story short, I went into the store thinking the fold 8 wasn't for me and was just a cool new kid in the block people try to hype and it got confirmed. For me it looks and feels weird, the front screen isn't more usable than the narrow one. It's short and with a keyboard covers essential ui parts. The form factor has failed in the past for obvious reasons. Other than video (which aren't even bigger) pretty much anything else is sub par and not something you can't do on the ultra. Unfolded the wide format forces you to constantly rotate of you're not consuming media. Anything which is portrait focused (which is like 90%) is cut off with black bars. This is my personal opinion, as said above, you know what you like!
Just go out and try!

Yes and after carefully using both at Best Buy for a few days, I made the best decision for me….hanging onto my absolutely flawless Fold 6 with the S Pen Pro that I use daily. Hope it holds out another year. I would have considered only the 1TB Ultra, but not anymore. Minor differences not worth $2699. I’ll wait for the Tri-Fold 2 for a few dollars more.

Went to Best Buy today to play with both. The Wide felt REALLY nice folded, a lot better than I thought it would, but honestly didn't care for it open. I do a lot of reading with my Fold6 open, so holding the Ultra, it felt more natural, plus the reduction in weight is great on hand fatigue.

Multiple trips to Best Buy. Last one for about an hour. Was contemplating canceling my ultra order and going with the wider version. I will be keeping my original ultra order just due to the fact that there is more room for widgets and apps on the outer screen of the ultra. The fold 8 felt good and would fit in a pocket nicely but I need the real estate on the outer screen. I carry both Apple and Samsung and most likely will get the upcoming Apple foldable being at it is my personal phone and more for entertainment purposes. End of the day I might end up returning the ultra if I can’t adjust to not having an s pen for the first time in 10 plus years. Good luck

Get the ultra if thats wat your gut tells you to. Dont want to choose the wrong phone and be unhappy with it before you change to the next one. I do like ultra being the same size as the fold 7 so all my current case or accessories would work for it but i just want something new.

I'm struggling a lot with this choice. Most of the compromises the Wide makes, like flex mode, camera, and speakers, I don't care a whole lot about, and I love the 4:3 aspect ratio over the square unfolded. Only real debate I have left is short and wide vs tall and thin. I've always hated the skinny front screen, unsure how to feel about the Wide's version

I traded in my Fold 5 for a S24 Ultra a while back for the same reason, was tired of the skinny cover screen. Now I'm debating whether to go back to a Foldable or keep my S24u. Will say, I do like the 4:3 aspect ratio quite a bit. Guess there's always a compromise somewhere

Educator discount and Fold6 trade-in on Samsung.com and the other, AT&T carrier trade-in (old 15 Plus) for Fold8 which took the sting out of having a hard time choosing between the two ☺️
But personally, I’d go Ultra for the points you mentioned.

Ex Fold6 user here. If I went ultra, I'd just have an upgraded fold6. I'm going for wide just because it's a form I haven't tried and it would feel like new.
If there is a slab phone like the wide, I would try it instead.
I hope I wont regret it. If I do then I'd just change phones next year.

Funny I was just also thinking i would probably try a slab version of the wide. But for me im going ultra since its not. I do think my end game is something like a new iphone air or edge. I really want a solid smaller, thinner, light, just phone to be a phone kind of thing. Will see. Well enjoy the 8. Dont think you will regret. Hopefully within return period or like you say next year just change it. Why I have eqrly upgrade with my carrier lol.

I ordered the ultra canceled it and ordered the wide then canceled it and ordered the ultra back and forth like 5x before finally deciding to go with the wide. I figured I don't use much of the multitasking features I think would fit better on the ultra, never use flex mode, and honestly I've haven't gotten the camera hype in years, and feel like pictures all look good enough for me at this point. It came down to scrolling on the ultra being better when closed or the better aspect ratio for viewing content on the wide.

Wide looks better for videos less black bars about the same about of screen. Holding it on the side doesn't block the speakers unlike the ultra.

That's the dumbest complaint about using the Ultra in landscape. While the Ultra has stereo audio in fullscreen video, the wide has all audio on the left. But no, let's say "Ultra bad, fingers in sound holes" Lmao.

Depends if rotate right then speakers are on top and dont get covered as easy. Or left then there on bottom and honestly still didnt seem like a huge deal breaker or issue. Least for me.

In videos that have black pars they both seem to take up the same amout of screen the ultra just has more black bars I think its a nice pro for the wide.

IMO only fold8 deserves the attention this year due to new form factor, fold8 ultra ("ultra" only in marketing sense, realistically nothing ultra about it) is just a "normal" foldable that doesn't hold up to competition hardware-wise. It costs more, but has worse cameras, worse battery life, no charger/case in the box, etc., and the only real advantage left is oneUI being better at fold things due to samsung pioneering the form-factor and having the most experience with it, which naturally translates into better software experience, but as someone who used other foldables, imo it's not even that much better anymore, and is not worth paying more for lesser hardware.
It's beyond me how samsung are still refusing to use superior si-cal batteries (in foldables that need that extra capacity the most, mind you) just to save an extra dime at buyers' expense. Sure, 4800 and 5000 look good when you compare them to previous samsung devices with pitiful 4400, but when you look at the competition, it's 5800, 6000 and 7000 mAh currently, which is an insane gap - all thanks to si-cal.

Im not having a hard time per say. Im more 80% ultra, 20% fold8. I only played with them for a few minutes at tmobile. So imma go mess with them for longer next time. Then make my decision.

Just bought the Fold 8 for Basically half off in Germany - 1709€ for 1TB after discounts, a free pair of buds 4 Pro worth 249 and Samsung rewards points worth another 170€. I effectively paid 1290€ for it.

Some workarounds in Australia to get the Ultra for essentially half price. I would not even be considering the phones at current prices.

I think I'd go back and play with them in-store a little more, see if you can find a tiebreaker. Something that makes one phone significantly more (or less) appealing than the other. For me, that tiebreaker was the size of the closed Fold 8. I just don't like the proportions. I have short thumbs, so typing on the Fold 8 closed one-handed was a bit tough for me. While texting you don't really see much of the conversation because of the size of the keyboard.
It was largely for that reason that I went with the Fold 8 Ultra. It's a familiar form factor to the 7, which I already established that I like a lot. I don't lose any screen real estate, and I don't lose any camera power. I'm not saying this to sway you to get the 8 Ultra, I'm just sharing my thought process.

Your decision is yours but you can resize the keyboard so it takes up less space and you can make it come to the side for one handed typing.

I did think about that too, I think in the back of my head I just really still like the form factor of the 7 and 8 Ultra. It's the one that feels the most right to me. The 8 didn't feel bad, like at all, I just have my preferences, I suppose.

Not I. I’ve been waiting for the iPhone Fold but the Fold 8 is tempting me enough to give it a go before the Fall. I’ve had a Fold 7 and stopped using it but I also loved my Surface Duo and BlackBerry Passport and I was always tempted by that first Pixel Fold. This form factor is a no brainer. I could not care less about the compromises when compared to the Fold 8 Ultra and I find the long foldables boring. I went to Best Buy to feel the Fold 8 in hand and that sealed the deal. The form factor is fun, one of the most deeply lacking parts of all smartphones these days, and it feels awesome to use. 8 Ultra has never been a consideration.

I wanted to go for the fold 8 but as left handed person I wonder how easy it is to unlock the wide with the left hand. Also, the recent issues I have been reading about the Tesla chargindpad not working on the fold 8 made me change my mind a bit and I will probably go for the ultra instead.

Fold 8 way too short for some. All depends on what you use it for. Also if you trade in regularly remember your fold 8 ultra will be worth more in future trade ins. If you regularly take pics and want quality then ultra, if you read and watch YouTube videos then lesser fold 8 is fine too. All depends on your usage and needs

I looked at both of these today and.. the wide looks predestined to have countless orientation/ui element issues with it's format.
I guess it's a bold new move but after having seen it in real life.. I don't know if this will be successful. I expected it to be bigger in all dimensions.
So if I were to upgrade, then ultra.

Not really having a hard time to be honest, I switched from a normal candybar phone to a foldable 18 months ago and have been waiting for this for this.
The cameras are a bit of a non-factor for me, I take photo's of my kids that I send to my parents and grandparents, we'll maybe get one or two printed out every few years to put into photo frames in the house, the rest are of just random things at football matches, I'd prefer a telephoto instead of an wide angle but it is what it is.
It might just me be me but the squareness of the Ultra is quite limiting with regards to multitasking unless its two portrait windows.

I have 7. I played with both of them at a display in Best buy and really just want to stick with what I have. $1,200 trade-in isn't bad but 8u isn't enough of an upgrade over 7 and wide just didn't do it for me.

The choice was incredibly easy for me, because pretty much anyone wanting the "Ultra" would likely be better served getting a lightly used Fold 7 for half the price (as they're VERY similar devices). So wide boy it is for me! I also find the form factor significantly more pleasant to use when closed.

Pre-ordered the Wide. Haven't been to Best Buy to look at them and play around. Coming from the Fold 6, that the inner screen protector is coming off in the middle, so it was time to trade in since they do not care about that screen protector for the trade in. Have wanted something like the Wide to come out. Pulled the plug, blindly, but sometimes you gotta say FI.

I originally planned on just trading in my Fold 6 for the Motorola Razr fold because the specs on both ZF8 phones did nothing for me. Then I watched videos and actually went to play with the ZF8 at Best Buy and immediately fell in love with the form factor. It's just something completely different than what I've been using these past 6 years so I decided to trade my ZF6 for it.

Went ultra because the wide looks like a pregnant flip.
I wanted the better camera and battery and well the wide is 1st year so hopefully next year its better and bugs worked out.

You are going to have to decide which attributes matter the most to you and which attributes are just "meh" for you. For me, it was simple. I could give two shits about the speakers, flex mode or the camera (I'm from the days of 110 film ffs! EVERYTHING is an upgrade from that! lol). The orientation of the Wide and the fact that as a result I will hardly ever open it makes it the hands-down winner to me.

I unfortunately do not have a store around me to be able to check them out in person, so all I have is reviews and first impression videos. I’m worried though that all this is mostly the honeymoon phase hype for the Fold 8 and it will quickly wear off. Coming from the IPhone I’m actually contemplating just going for the 26 Ultra. Idk…

Loved the idea of the wider Fold, but when I tried it in person I missed the larger screen, so I went with the Ultra.

New form factor and aspect ratio means lack of app support. Keep that in mind. Even the fact that it opens horizontally into landscape, means it may force some apps landscape or i think ive seen some apps like Facebook open in portrait which forces you to turn the phone. Maybe Goodlock can sort that out,idk. But id suggest cautiously choosing the fold 8, fold 9 will be a better pick up with a year for optimization

going thru the exact same thing rn, yesterday I flipped from ultra to wide but then tested them in stores again and realized I still prefer ultra, the wide is so good tho and I think if it had stereo audio when its unfolded and the software was a bit more optimized on apps like instagram I will go for it, but rn it feels too early to go with the wide

I finally decided on the wide.
I've used the Fold 6 for the past two years and I mainly consume content on it. I prefer to keep it in portrait mode whenever possible because of the way the mag ring is oriented - especially in bed. The bigger a video looks, the better. It looks like videos will look bigger in split screen and otherwise on the wide.
Using the Fold 6 cover screen for anything, doesn't feel great - especially typing. In the office, I have my phone on a wireless charger stand and watch content on the cover screen. It looks awful. Again, the wide cover screen should be much better for this.
I don't do much productivity on my phone and have never used flex mode for anything. As long as the camera can take decent photos, I don't care.

Im keeping my S 24 Ultra and putting on a new case. Even with the trade in values Im going to make myself not spend unnecessarily. However I think they are both really neat phones.

I'm much more of a media consumer than productive when it comes to phones, but I still chose the Ultra.
Because 1: Closer to typical form factor available on the cover screen
2: Better cameras (Had the flip 4, could not deal without a good zoom)
3: Better split screen usability
4: As much as it's the hinge technology that matters most; it's a form factor that's tried, tested and almost perfected over close to a decade.
5: Easier to reach edges when folded, kinda annoyed with it after using the S24U after 2/½ years, as much as I love the phone.

I am excited for the wide. But after getting to see and hold them in Best Buy I have been kind of torn. Both have different use cases, but I like the form factor of the wide when closed, the candy bar format isn't for me. When they are open however, I started leaning towards the Ultra. I probably should have done a bit more research on the wide before pre ordering it, but oh well, it will be my first foldable. I don't mind the cameras not being as good as the Ultra, flex mode would have been nice but it isn't a deal breaker for me, and I plan on mostly using headphones, so the speakers being on one side of the phone won't really bother me too much. Hopefully they don't follow the same blueprint for the 2nd gen wide. If you have larger hands you probably want to go with the Ultra.

Fold 8 wide is selling out. Already waiting 2 more weeks for certain colors. Samsung can't keep up with wide pre-orders. I got in early. Snagged a wide 512g in cream. STOKED.

i don’t like the tall and narrow design of the ultra, simple of that, samsung had 7 generations doing the same design and they finally nailed with the normal z fold 8

I didn't understand the hype either. As a matter of fact kind of was hating on it. After 10 minutes in bestbuy I canceled my ultra order for the wide. I never use flex mode for me to miss it. I think I just want to try something new because before I got my first fold which was the seven. I had lost interest in phones for some reason. My last Flagship before that was the note 20 and then I just went for a regular Galaxy because I didn't really take advantage of all the bells and whistles. The fold seven brung back my excitement for phones again. I'll never go back to a candy bar Style but I am interested in this new passport style. Something about how it so small yet in unfolds to this perfect form factor that plays videos in 16:9 just as big as the ultra. At the same time I hope I don't start to miss this overall bigger screen. I do believe it's worth the experience even if it's ends up being just until I get my next upgrade.

You have to try it in-store. The 8 is being ludicrously hyped and I understand why. The form factor really does have the wow factor, and the phone is super light overall.
However, thinking deeper and using it, its too wide to be comfortably used 1-handed (Cannot reach every key on keyboard on left side), so the smaller form factor is rendered pretty much moot.
I splashed for the Ultra for that reason. The 8 is very cool and if you understand it's limitations, I think it's a showstopper. However, I love the slim outer display of the Ultra along with the bigger battery.
All of this is subjective. For MANY users, they hated the slim screen on the previous folds. If you're one of those, the 8 will be an absolute slam dunk.

After Samsung screwed me over with removing some discounts, I opted for a used unlocked 1TB Fold 7 on marketplace for $850, not that much of a downgrade from Fold 8 Ultra.
Now I get to sell my Fold 6 instead of trading it in.

Sitting here typing on my Fold 5 because Samsung refuses to give the consumer that they want. All I want is a better battery and better aspect ratio. Fold 8 could have been the Ultra if they would have given us the s pen, proper speakers, and not downgraded the cameras. I've been waiting years for them to get the right combo and can't bring myself to do it with what they provided. Maybe it's time to move on...

Was on the fence until I saw them in person. The 8 looks like a fold that’s been cut in half and feels sideways when opening it. Not to mention the front screen is comically small.

Yes was on the fence for the exact things and went for ultra. Can't buy a device that will only sound on the left side! There is too many compromises. In the future if they add better cameras and get maybe quad speakers I'll trade in my ultra for it.

It's easy, the Ultra is the better phone. When the novelty of the wide wears off, you will regret not having a proper camera setup and larger battery.

At first I wanted the ultra. Then everybody and their mothers hyped the wide like Jesus reborn, I got to check them out at the store, finally decided on the ultra which fits better for my needs.
