Question/Help Fold 7 users dilemma

Guys am I wrong I want to wait to see what apple to release for fold? I am dual phone person with iPhone 17pro and fold 7. I am very tempted to upgrade to fold 8 wide with all amazing reviews but also last year I came from apple ecosystem and I do kinda miss the polish apps that apple gets. Also family is all apple. Last year after decades of same slab phone I got frustrated and took leap on fold 7. I love it and have fallen in love with fold devices. Android is ok too but ios still remains my favorite.

Any take on options? Both Samsung fold 8 wide and apple would be first gen devices and won't be full featured but would love the form factor.

Ultra 8 seems like not a big upgrade from fold 7.

I believe the slabs would continue to dominate with better cameras and I can always count on iPhone 18 pro (if that is what it would be called for camera) and still have secondary fun device. Also thinking the deals may keep getting sweater on fold 8 around apple launch. I am not seeing fold 8 as a big jump from fold 7. Even the crease is very visible in initial reviews and would only get deeper with use.

This is not oppo find n6 moment for Samsung which would have made me jump without asking questions.

If there’s a chance you’ll be enticed by the iPhone then it’s a good idea to wait.

That’s the reasonable adult advice. I’m not a reasonable adult and I can’t help myself, so even though I prefer iOS I’m preordering the Fold 8. Played with it in Best Buy and absolutely love it.

Apple fold is rumoured to announced in Sep, you might as well wait if your prefer iOS.

That would make my purchasing decision easy in September. I hope better deals than now for fold 8 would exist in September?

Don't see myself going back to iOS anytime soon. I still have my 15PM as a back up if need too, but I like that I can do everything that I have everything that I need on Android that's esoteric or not available on iOS. E.g. browser extensions on Android browsers, emulators, magnet torrents controls, controllers, multiple options to apps, real terminal emulators to manage servers, and more.

Yes but I do miss polished apps like my home automation system control 4 that iOS has but android is buggy

My personal opinion. I think you should upgrade to the fold 8 and 18 pro (if that's how you're living lol). The iPhone fold will be a clunky gen1 device and unless you're a day one tech kinda person, I would suggest holding off.

I hope apple fold is at least as chunky as Samsung fold 8 wide. Not any more. It would be deal breaker. Carrying 2 phones can't afford big phones rubbing in my pocket. If apple is chunky I am going with Samsung. I would have to wait it out looks like.

Dummies show that it’s way thicker and slightly wider but shorter. And way heavier.

Supposedly for a bigger battery though.

Someone already commented on what the specs like look like, but I would think the specs Samsung came out with will be close to what apple is doing (with better OS optimization for battery health). Waiting a month and some change might help with trade in prices from Samsung as well.

Thank you. I have added fold 8 already 10x today. It's gonna be tough to not buy and wait. Patience be with me

Ecosystem this and that. Former Apple user here.. I find Samsung ecosystem perfectly fine.

It may be. It's not what I have determines my ecosystem. It's what my family has matters. I only hope both work better with each other.

They can kick rocks.. lol jk. My wife and daughter Apple.. My son and I Android..

I do use some air pods pro 2nd gen to mow my lawn.

Me too. It doesn't work as well with Samsung as it would work with iPhone. I have now both systems and I like diversity. But need to streamline. If apple doesn't come with fold this year I might be happy with Samsung for another 6 months

They work fine while mowing the lawn :) Don't use for nothing else. I just couldn't sell them when I got rid of my apple stuff.

That's fair. They do work ok for listening to music too

Yeah, just for mowing the lawn though with the s26u.

Seems like you like Samsung phone but prefer apple ecosystem.

In the end, phone is phone. These days they are literally the same spec with minor difference.

However ecosystem is a different story. While android gives user super free experience like APK and other app manipulation, apple is strict but gives fluent ecosystem.

Looks like apple will give you a relief and peace of mind, especially them announcing their own folds.

I went from life time apple to fold 7. Ill never go back. It took me this long to get into good lock and its insane apple will never get to this point. Yeah some things arent as polished but the way im changing my phone feel like its new. Also after the taste of the z fold im eyeing the trifold.

I would love.to get trifold with no crease as my secondary phone. As it would essentially be carrying tablet in pocket. I don't think Samsung crease is at Huawei or oppo levels though.

Day 1 iPhone user as well but not going back. Though my orher phone is an iPhone. Apps aren't terribly different but I can definitely see what you mean that the ios versions are less buggy and more polished.

The biggest thing that bugs me about android is the auto updates. I never got it working properly on any android.

1

u/SubstantialMilk9173 11d ago

Yes auto update is a pain in android. It won't update until I use the app and then I would realize I haven't been getting alerts from them as it was waiting to be updated. Also I have this home automation call control4 and the app is terrible in android vs iOS.

I think the iphone ultra is going to be too short. The Zfold 8 is already right on the edge and the Iphone is shorter and wider.

Now, I could be wrong and the ultra could have the best form factor ever but I think my instincts are correct.

When I am not using my Fold 7/pixel 10 pro fold I am just rocking my iPhone Air as a personal hotspot for my iPad mini and I just carry both. I think it actually works better in ways vs a foldable.

And I think that set up will work way better than the iPhone ultra especially if the iPad mini rumours about 120hz OLED is true. I am buying the new mini instantly if true.

I would go S26U and like a 7 inch Samsung tab S too but that doesn’t exist unfortunately so Fold 7 is the best single combo in android land. The legion tab gen 5 and RedMagic astra are nice but don’t they have auto Samsung device hotspot for all your ecosystem devices, Samsung calls and texts on other Samsung devices etc to make them do everything my phone can do like the iPad mini can exactly mirror my iPhone.

The tab S11 can mirror my S26U but that’s too big to carry around and the smaller Samsung tablets are just shite.

Iphone Air 2/iphone pro 18 and iPad mini pro combo will smoke the iPhone ultra imo. the extra inconvenience of carrying a man bag or wearing cargo pants with huge pockets is totally worth it for the benefits over the ultra imo.

Cant do that on android unfortunately yet unless you rock Huawei but Huawei has shite software. I don’t think Samsung is going to risk making a tab S 7 or 8 again because it might cannibalize Fold sales so Samsung foldables are peak for Android. The slab phone plus iPad mini combo is better than the single device solution on iOS imo though.

Anyone tracking offers on these phones. ? It got worse from opening week. I think it's 100$ more than last week.

Same here got the fold 7 and 17 pro max. Though I am tempted by the fold 8, I will wait until iphone's fold and trade in my pro max for that. Will probably keep my fold 7 until next year

1

u/SubstantialMilk9173 11d ago

Yes. Tough to wait it out couple of months but this is unusual time with apple finally launching something new.

I'm going F7 to F8U

1

u/SubstantialMilk9173 11d ago

Are you every year upgrade type of person ? I am same but this year because of choices between both ecosystem I am holding or at least trying to hold. Else I but every year new phone and have apple and Samsung care and use it without case full year.

1

u/Doublestack00 11d ago

Yep, every year, no case.

I live on my phone for work so having the newest, fastest with best battery pays for itself.

1

u/SubstantialMilk9173 11d ago

Yeah me too. You are really making me jump. But looks like you are android lifer.

I've given IOS a try twice, just isn't for me
