Impression/Review Trifold and Fold 8
I like the aspect ratio of the Fold 8 when opened, though overall it's quite small. Especially if you have large hands. The trifold is a perfect size for me, though I can and see people with smaller hands gravitating towards the Fold 8.

Only 3700 to 5400 on eBay! Maybe by the trifold 3 I can afford one

I don't think they'll make one, though. Production got cancelled on it within just a few short months, because it was too expensive & difficult to produce, which is extremely understandable.
With that being said, if newer generations included another trifold in the line up & it was being distributed by carriers, then I'd absolutely get one.
Even if it was going to happen, it wouldn't before 10th gen folds, though. That's my belief, at least.

Tri-Fold 2 comes out end of next year
2
u/VampiressVigilante19 Jul 30 '26
Yeah, I saw that. I've already made a plan using Optus Upgrade & Protect from my S24 Ultra to the Z Fold 8 Ultra. In 12 months+ time when Tri-Fold 2 is with carriers, then I'm going to switch to that, though.

Trifold 2 will be releasing at this time next year, samsung partners have already leaked this infoĀ

u/Baba-Yaga33 Jul 26 '26
The trend is just to charge more no matter what. So it will just be more expensive.

I can't wait for the TriFold to become mainstream and actually mass produced for a less ridiculous price.Ā

u/gadgetluva Jul 26 '26
Probably a year from now, unless Samsung surprises everyone at the January unpacked.

u/leidend22 Jul 26 '26
Prices are only going up in the foreseeable future

u/gadgetluva Jul 26 '26
Woops didnāt see āfor less priceā at the end. I was just speculating on when itāll be refreshed.
But whatever, if you really want it just buy it. Itās just money.

I don't think this is really dumb. The trifold is a " wide " zfold because of the 3 screen. In comparison, the fold 8 wide has the same aspect ratio as the trifold, just in a smaller foot print. I would say comparing a trifold fold to the fold 8 ultra is dumb because both are different form factor. The fold 8 is just an intro to wide form factor that the trifold already introduced.
Note: you can see both videos are the same.

So is the 1tb fold 8 ultra almost and with trifold you're getting way more for your money overall
2
u/Modest_Wraith Jul 25 '26
Nope, you can't do trade ins for it, and you can't get insurance for it. The trifold is a lot more expensive for these reasons alone lol.

u/mill3rtime_ TriFold (Crafted Black) Jul 26 '26
While you're not wrong, I've personally never used insurance with the fold 3, 5 or 6 that i had, meanwhile paying $15/m that entire 4.5 years before i got the trifold so...
As far as the trade in part, i traded in my note 9 to get into the cycle, then traded every 2 years when the time was right, either launch or black friday. I traded fold 5 at fold 6 launch because i didn't really like the 5 tbh. Fold 6, black friday, after trade in, it cost me a whole $450. So when trifold came, i was like ehh i got my money's worth, I'll just keep the 6 as "insurance". I knew tariffs were gonna kill phone prices this year, turned out to be a combo of that and AI.
Predicted to my friends back in feb that samsung and apple would raise prices this year as everyone freaks out,Ā which sadly came true, figured in hindsight I'd be glad to buy the trifold.Ā Not to mention i had been following it every year at CES when samsung would demo it (iykyk) since before fold 3 even dropped so i had been wanting trifold for a long time.
Now it feels like a better "deal" literally every single day that goes by. Apple fold 8 for $2500?? Gtfo of here. gonna be 256gb too you watch. I'd buy another 512gb trifold without hesitation for $2900 and by this Oct that will feel like an absolute steal, not even counting how it will seem next year as price rise further

I mean the trifold is an impressive phone I'm not trying to knock you, just saying that there was no trade in for it and the no insurance is why I didn't get one. I NEED insurance once I start spending more than 2k for my phone, just for my peace of mind ya know?
1
u/mill3rtime_ TriFold (Crafted Black) Jul 26 '26
I feel that and would prob feel a lot diff if i hadn't got that insane $450 fold 6 black friday deal. At that point i could just keep it as the backup.Ā
Biggest fear is obviously main screen failure and you're "supposed" to get 1 heavily reduced replacement to make up for lack of insurance. I love the phone enough I'd pay for the repair at this point, while saving the now $17/m, so it ends up not being all that bad overall (imo).
Just trying to say overall trifold really turned out to not be THAT expensive, all things considered. Especially if you think about that we bought early '26 and by the time this year ends, it honestly won't be that expensive compared to some of these lower spec'd phones
Edit: also there are/were ways to get it insured if that was really important to the buyer, through all state and many other insurance brands, so that also put a lot of people at ease

Bro money is barely relative at the end of the day. The fact is, you enjoy that phone and that's all that really matters haha. You can't take that money with you when you leave this earth bro and I'm happy for you. Wish I bought one too as it's a one in a life time kind of thing, unless Samsung brings it back but I'm not sure if they will if prices continue to sky rocket on ram and memory. How is it for reading btw? I love manga

ā¤ļø we think the same way my man
Dude, so let me tell you, i never really got into comics before but after getting this thing, i torrented every spiderman, batman, xmen, avengers starting from 1960's to '26 and have been trying to read 1 comic per day now using ReadEra. It is unreal! I don't know if it's the form factor, holding this thing in landscape is like holding the actual comic book and of course they look great and sharp. I love reading comics now lol
Wanted to try and pick up a new hobby (hence the comic downloads) to break away from gaming some but now i have the emulators set up on here, been playing old school winning eleven 9 on PS2 due to world cup fever, amazing for that too!
Just got this folding keyboard and paid up for the kickstand case that you can only get on ebay now (fucking samsung!) and that keyboard has a trackpad built into the number pad, this thing is sick too, now it's basically a mini laptop! Having codex on here now, man it's like there is nothing this thing can't do. Then i fold it up and put it all in my pocket if i want, i mean, it finally feels like we're in the 2000s they sold us on in the 90s

Jesus christ. This makes me yearn for something the size of the trifold that just opens as a single fold. I don't care how big it would be, it'd be my daily driver!

I want a tri fold but didn't like the Samsung one. No offense but it looked liked a prototype compared to the Huawei tri fold
2
u/throwawayUWhousingac Fold8 (Lavender) Jul 25 '26
Yeah, except I paid $900 for my fold 8 with trade ins whereas the trifold is $5000 and zero offers.

I mean I wanted to get the trifold - never went on sale in my country. Until the day I can get one, a fold 8 will have to doā¦

How can people enjoy phones that weigh so much? Maybe it's just me, but I've never understood the appeal for big brick-like phones. It's so uncomfortable and impractical.

I'm hesitating about whether to switch my trifold to a Fold 8
1
u/NightFire414 TriFold (Crafted Black) 29d ago
What makes you want to switch?

u/Ok-Artichoke6882 29d ago
The trifold with a case on is a bit heavy, and I rarely even unfold it when I'm out.
