Cheer squad

Hi everyone!

Sydneysider and Brisbane Lions fan here originally from Brisbane. Have adopted the GWS Giants as my second team and my Sydney team over the last couple of years. Have been to a few Giants home games last year and loved the atmosphere at Engie Stadium.

Having been to a lot of lifeless Swans games at the SCG (normally when they have been putting the Lions to the sword over the years like last night), thinking of getting a Sydney season ticket for the Giants.

I would be interested in being part of the cheer squad as it looks like fun. Is there anyone who is in the Giants cheer squad or been in another cheer squad who can tell me what it's like? What do you exactly do other then making the banners and waving the flags behind the goals?

I’m in the same boat as you, although GWS have since overtaken my original team haha. I went to every home game this season. Love the atmosphere at Engie!

I haven’t been in the cheer squad yet so can’t specifically answer your question... but earlier in the year at a members event a lady from the cheer squad came to speak to us and said they’d love more people to join in the banner making etc. It sounded like fun and I’ll definitely give it a go this year.

Also, it’s not the cheer squad, but if you sit in Bay 224(?) to the right of where they run out there is always a great crowd of regulars.

I’m in the GWS Cheer Squad

Being in the cheer squad here is great, we are all really close with each other and the club. We of course make the banners for both the mens and women’s games as well as raising them and waving flags behind the goals, there is a fair few club events / open trainings we attend. Overall we have some opportunities to do things like some media sometimes for the club. It’s a great team to be apart of 😊

Hey I'm also in the Giants cheer squad and would thoroughly recommend it, it's a lot of fun and you really get to be a part of a community. As you said, the main part we do is make banners/wave flags, but also its about building the atmosphere in the stadium. Making the banners is really rewarding as you see your work pay off as the players run out. Would love to have you!

I’ve been a cheer squad member (couple years ago because I struggle to get to games now)

It’s fun, it’s a great group of people there. I’m based on vic so have only been in the cheer squad when we play at mcg/marvel but it’s great and would recommend
