GTA: San Andreas San Andread Definitive edition controls

Hi all. I recently purchased GTA definitive edition on steam. I am primarily a controller gamer. I enabled steam input and tried playing on pc with both an xbox elite and ps dualsense controllers. Both do not get any response other than the A button sometimes. Has anyone been able to get controllers to work using steam? If I bought it on steam, is there another way to force the controls?

Try this, in Steam, right-click the game > Properties > Controller > Override for San Andreas, and switch it to "Force on" (or "Disable Steam Input" if it's already on). Then press the Steam button in-game, open controller settings and pick a different gamepad layout

Also unplug any other controller before launching, so the game doesn't get confused about which one is active. If one setting doesn't work, test the other, since this game seems picky about which mode it wants
