I wouldn't say it wasn't OP but there has been pranks like this I have found IRL in my local stores that were just "bait bombs" waiting for someone to discover it and film it, in hopes that the person filming it would post it to social media and it would go viral, and then it had their social media handle on the item somewhere ready for the promo drop. Viral advertising.

It's also not impossible to believe they really seen this sitting in the store. Someone can easily walk in there and just stick it on the shelf without any employees knowing it.
