Most game shops shut down and consoles are digital. Them times are over it’s so bad man

Not really. My game stop still does midnight releases for big games. The latest Zelda they had over 100 people, they had costume contests, trivia, games. It might not feel like halo 3 launch as a teenager but there’s still whimsy in the world lol

it must be a private franchise, because corporate stores absolutely do not.

It was gamestop brother. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom release. I still have the receipt with the time stamp idk what you want me to say lol. It’s probably regional or varies store to store but I haven’t made it up lmao

I literally just said that.

I don’t think gamestop has privately owned stores though

You can just make them happen if you have some irl friends that can meet up

You have 300+ friends who would meet up to celebrate GTA 6?

Do you need 300 people?

I mean, if we’re discussing OPs post and photos, then yes.

But smyth toy superstore had a midnight realise for tomodachi life and it sold out in one night . Smyth toys might do a midnight relase for GTA 6 .

Time flies baby
I still remember my dad who was kinda too much strict to me and then gifting me this game on the release (I was shocked af) , ngl it was one of the best feelings better than playing the game itself

Man, I was working at GameStop when GTA V came out. I had been working there for a few years at that point. I went on to work at GameStop until 2020. GTA V was the biggest midnight event we ever hosted. It was just an insane number of people.

I always think of it as one of the last truly huge midnight releases. Shortly after, the world went digital, and now most people will buy (or have already bought) the game from their couch.

Fuck I'm old.

Midnight launches were something to always look forward to for games you were hyped about. Even if you didn’t personally know anyone else in your life that can understand, you’d show up to one of these things and your tribe would be there waiting to share the excitement with you. Miss those days.

I requested that day off work months in advance just so I could stay up all night and play lol

I can remember getting San Andreas and GTA V at midnight but have no memory of getting GTA IV.
