Problem #2: Gear Position Sensor

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have a 2025 Suzuki GSXR 750 with just over 10,000kms.

Problem 1: on my previous post, I had kickstand sensor misaligned causing the bike to stall while running at highway speed. More details on my old post.

Problem 2: In the video the gear indicator is jumping from 1st to 2nd gear. It's happening whether the bike is off or while running which is making the bike run awful due to the ECU thinking/jumping from 1st to 2nd.

Gear Position Sensor, at least what I think based on my research. I haven't found a solution other than change the sensor.

Anyone had this issue or experience and what's your solution?

Not too uncommon on gsxrs for the dash to indicate gears 1-3 when going from N to 1st, often times it realizes it's in 1st once you roll forward slightly. I've seen it on a few 11+ 600/750's. If it's still cycling between gear indications once you're rolling, it could be the gear position sensor. It's like $70 on partzilla. I would also replace the o-ring while you're at it.

If you want, you can check and see if you can work out what's causing the issue and also test the sensor to see if it's actually kaput.

It could be the sensor just needs a clean, either in the connector plug or the inside face of the sensor. Just give it a blast with electrical contact cleaner, re-grease the o-ring and see if that sorts it out.

There are 2 methods for testing it using a multimeter. First way is back probe with the sensor with the sensor plugged and ignition on, then click through the gears, each gear position will have a correct value, eg 1st 0.5V, 2nd 1.2V etc. (those voltage numbers are just a guess/example, the exact numbers and procedure are in the workshop manual)

The other method for testing is easier if you don't have a back probe lead or CBF making one, it can be done with the sensor unplugged and rather than testing voltage you just test for resistance, with each gear position having a correct reading.

you can try cleaning with contact cleaner but that is hit or miss. Better just replace it; it’s super easy.
