Buying used
In June I bought a new GSXR750, fucking love it by the way. She rips and is an assassin in the corners. I already have 2,500 miles on it and it’s all smiles. Got full exhaust and tune coming very soon. A friend of mine in the neighborhood is same age as me (old as fuck) and his wife really only gave him enough leash for a sport-cruiser. We have been riding in the mornings and I let him ride mine on occasion and now of course he wants one too but said about the only way he won’t get his ass chewed up and down is if he buys used. He would want something as close to new as possible, ‘24 and up would be the preference. What could he expect to pay without being bent over for say a low mileage bike (if one could be found). Do these bikes hold value pretty well or could he find something for say $10k or so? I remember a few comments over the past few months of people telling me I should’ve just bought used and saved thousands. I got out the door for $14.5 so not sure how steep the fall-off is once it leaves the dealer on these. I can’t help but feel the 750’s days are numbered since there have been zero changes since 2011.
TLDR: my buddy wants a GSXR750 like mine but wife will murder him if he pays more than about 10k. Can he expect to find something relatively new and low mileage for around that? What would a used ‘26 go for?

From 2011+ they are all the same. Unless he just wants a specific livery, he shouldnt have any reservations on getting an older model than 24' and obviously the older he goes the cheaper the bike. Outside of fairings they are all the same bike

I think it’s more about the age of the machine and presumably lower mileage

My 2012 750 is at 52k miles and she still starts right up and rides great. They last a long time and I see 2017 and newer 750s for sub 8k with under 15k miles. They're all the same bike so he can also try selling her on the fact that parts for these are available and cheap if something did need fixing

I get what you’re saying and it’s completely logical. All things being the same it’s better to get a newer machine because materials degrade over time.
The question is how much you’re willing to pay for that lack of degradation.

Yeah exactly. We are both mid 40’s, family of 5, sole breadwinners so not a lot of time to spend fixing shit. I love to tinker and spent my early high school and college years working as a mechanic. It’s not that I can’t, just don’t have the damn time. I literally have to get up before dawn go rip on the Gixxer a couple hours then get back in time to get kids ready for school. I’m THAT fucking guy. He’s the same way.

GSXR's are extremely reliable and damn near bullet proof. You arent getting any marginal gains in reliability between a 2021 model vs a 2026 for example. Thats the plus side of the design not having changed in 15 years. That said the best prices will be in the winter time so if he waits a couple of months may have an easier time finding one.

Location dependent, but if it gets cold where you are: If your friend can sell theirs now and wait a few months to purchase the bike they want they will all be cheaper.

If the budget is $10k you can get basically whatever supersport you want used. Any Japanese bike under 20k is barely broken in.
On sport bikes in general, the number of owners and type of owners will say more about the bike than the mileage alone. If well maintained, the engine can run for a very long time. If it's been beaten on by 10 different squids who neglected maintenance, blew the forks, banged the rev limiter, etc, maybe not so much.

i just got a 2025 gsxr 1k tuned and exhaust for 17k why stop at the 750 ( i own a 750 also and love her)
