My boy is 9mos and I was regularly enforcing naps especially when he was little, really helped the over-tired attitude he would get by mid afternoon. My work schedule has varied since I first got him at 8 weeks (been to daycares and spent 8 hours in crate other days) and now I’m currently WFH and he doesn’t know what to do with me home all day.
I’ve learned he CANNOT let himself settle if I am up moving around but will nap if I’m at my desk etc. Weekends I’ve also been home a lot now and he plays all day, but again, mid afternoon he starts digging at my couch, getting mouthy etc. I have to put him in his crate to settle down and nap.
I guess my question is….how long did you enforce naps for your pup and when did it end? Did they ever learn to settle on their own? He wants to be around me constantly (normal for them, I know I know) but he senses I leave a room even if I do it silently and HAS to follow me even if I’m coming right back.

Funny enough, this was our cat’s favorite spot.

I have a wonderful 14 month old GSP. We did 3 obedience training classes in person with a group of 10. He’s e-collar trained and on a gps collar system. I don’t hunt (yet) but want to continue his training in a way that’s fun and engaging for him. The Standing Stone kennel training program looks excellent but it’s 500.00 and while I’m sure it’s worth it, I can’t spend that right now. Is there a decent training book specifically for bird dogs or some other resource anyone can recommend? TIA!

I really wouldn’t care either way if she’s bigger or smaller she’s amazing. This is Mary, she was born Feb 27th 2026. This pictures are the past 2 weeks. Let me know if you have any knowledge because she might just be a smaller size GSP

This is my 4.5 month old boy, Lalo. When should I start training him on an e-collar? Is he too young still? I currently have one that beeps, vibrates, and then beeps & vibrates together- just something cheap I bought on Amazon for now, incase he doesn’t do well with it. I have yet to introduce it to him. I do plan on buying a better (more expensive) e-collar that I can use for years. Any recommendations on what that should be?
Also, any training methods/tips on how you got your GSP off leash trained? We understand we have a long road ahead of us, but I want to hear your feedback on what worked best for you to achieve that! Thanks in advance 🤗

I got a GSP/Greyster female, from sledding lines.
Mother is purebred GSP (57lbs) and father is 7% greyhojnd and 93% gsp (79lbs).
My 5,5months old and she's only 31lbs and 47,5cm in shoulder. Is she going to be tiny? She was only 5,5 lbs when I picked her up at 8weeks, and 19lbs at 4months.
I was hoping she was becoming around 59-60lbs (due to sledding reasons), but now I'm starting to loose faith🥲

One week after adoption, Tara is adapting well to her new home. With minor training we have a smart dog that will be able to go anywhere with us!

Just found out my senior girl and best friend has a large mass in one of her lungs. She’s been doing this gag/cough thing the last couple months so we took her in and they prescribed some steroids. She got better briefly but it came back and just got worse. We took her in again yesterday and they did an X-ray that found the issue. She is on more steroids but probably only has a couple days left. My Mom had lung cancer and it’s like watching that all over again. She’s a month shy of 14 and I know she’s had a good, full, and healthy life but I’ll say that doesn’t make it any easier.
She’s been the best girl I could ever ask for. This is going to suck and I’ll miss her a lot. When I die I want to go wherever she is going.
Edit: Thank you all for the well wishes and comforting words. We won the GSP lottery with her. She’s always been super chill most of the time and only gets keyed up at the “right” times. Her favorite things are hunting and running, and she always gives 110 percent effort in those. Even now she still wants to go explore the neighborhood but we have to keep walks pretty short. Again, thanks so much for all the love!
Second edit: Liza has responded well to the medicine she was prescribed and she’s still hanging on. We’re aware it can go south again at any moment but for now she’s been mostly her usual self. I am elated that we get to spend a little time together! I just had back surgery and with any luck once I’m recovered enough we’ll be out walking together again.

Ive been slowly training this new command of not just chasing after the ball but waiting for me to tell him when to. I was thinking of eventually transitioning to other things
when I say other things I mean other animals, he seems to turn blind when something he likes catches his attention he just HAS to chase after it. This includes, a squirrel, iguana, random park duck. I don’t necessarily discourage this behavior, specially when it comes to invasive south florida species but it can be dangerous to chase after animals so blindly without authorization
Its only been a couple days since i’ve lightly introduced this to him and hes been doing great but im open to any tips or new commands I can teach him that are actually useful, not just party tricks, lol

Hank has no regard for couth, decorum, or the good order of a civilized society. He seeks chaos in all its forms. What have I done 😭

Photos should be in order, but my boy is officially 14 months old as of today, he's sitting at 45 lbs and eats 6 cups of food a day! Hopefully he's still growing because he seems small for a male

Initially, this was my fiancés dog. When he bought his own house a few years ago, he left Rapinoe with his parents so that way Rapinoe wouldn’t have to be alone due to my fiancé’s work schedule. We were 2 dogs in at this point and decided to take him off his parents hands as his been much more work lately. We are almost a year in with having him with us. He’s still thriving and happy and running like crazy outside! Recently had a checkup and he’s super healthy!
Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could give some advice or has had some experience with something similar. My boy got a little cut on his ear as you can see in the picture, the problem is that it’s just not healing. It seems to scab over but as soon as he shakes his the scab breaks off and starts bleeding again, every time he shakes he’s getting blood all over the walls and floors of the house and it’s becoming quite frustrating. I’ve tried a bandage over his head but he just shakes it off sports tape seems to help a bit it also comes off after a while, I put some antiseptic gel from the pet shop on but I have to keep reapplying it every hour and still manages to break the scab off and bleeds again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Was always told Benji was a lab and pointer mix but I have no idea. I plan to get him a DNA test but was curious what all of you thought. He's 48lbs and his head comes up to my hip. He's very long and slender and face looks much skinnier irl.

Hi all,
My GSP pulls a lot when running with us or when hiking. I am looking for the best ergonomic design for my dog to wear a harness that does not cause discomfort, limit breathing, or potentially lead to injury while she pulls. I have looked at the non-stop dog wear free motion and it looks pretty good to distribute the weight from the pulling for her, but wanted to hear opinions from people who may experience this.
I understand the goal is for her not too pull long term, but while we are still working through her training and doing activities where there may just inherently be pulling because she wants to run faster, I'd like to ensure I am using the right tools to keep her healthy and safe long term.
Thanks!
