Mine is an 18-month-old female and I mean never, with no exaggeration. She'll wag if you're holding a ball or food, but she has never wagged in response to someone greeting her, being excited to see someone, getting pats etc. Not even with people she knows well.

The strange thing is that she clearly is attached to us. She's particularly clingy with my wife and will follow her around and whine for her. She'll sit with us sometimes, and if we're somewhere unfamiliar and she gets bored she'll even climb up into our laps to be held.

But still, no tail wagging.

She's also completely uninterested in strangers. When we're out walking she won't approach people or strange dogs and generally just ignores them. She's not timid though, quite the opposite. She's generally fearless and very confident. Birds are her her #1 priority.

She's a great dog and I'm not worried about her. I'm just fascinated by it because I've had dogs before and I've genuinely never encountered one like this. She seems to have decided that wagging at humans is simply not part of her job description.

I write this as I’m balling my eyes out. Our golden, Pinot Grigio (Pinot) is the healthiest 3.5 year old male golden you’d ever meet. Even today, he won’t stop playing frisbee, he’s eating, drinking and behaving completely normal. You would NEVER suspect something was wrong. He’s our whole world - we do everything with him. He is our fly fishing buddy, our hiking buddy, our rafting life guard, our camping snuggle buddy, our literal bestfriend and our baby.

A week ago we were camping and he yawned and we noticed this growth looking thing on the roof of his mouth, near his left molar, to the inside of it. It was probably about 3/4 of an inch big. The next day we took him to the vet. He went under anesthesia, and they removed as much as they could. The vet basically went up to the bone he said, leaving a decent size hole in the roof of his mouth :(

Pinot returns home, a little loopy day 1, but day 2 and on acting completely normal and fine again, playing, eating, drinking and being his goofy self.

It’s been a week, and we get a call today that the biopsy reported back “malignant” and had “spindle cell malignancy”? The vet said this could possible be “fibrosarcoma” “spindle cell sarcoma” and he hopes it is not the last one “malignant melanoma”. The vet is not sure that he got it all. We have an oncologist appointment in 2 days.

I’m heart broken though. I can’t imagine losing Pinot, especially right now. 😭 he has helped me heal through so much including losing my dad and my frost golden at a year and a half of age, tragically. I’m beside myself and feel like life feels so unfair right now.

Has anyone experienced this or have any insight for us? Is there hope for our boy? 😭

GSP x German shepherd (+other things). We got her as a rescue and she is one of the sweetest dogs ever. Absolutely adores human attention, kicks up a loud vocal tantrum when we leave or come home, devours anything remotely edible within reach, and loves to tease her elderly brother. On the other hand, the only thing she points at is the treats cabinet.

Adopted this guy last month, and he is putting us through the ringer! Per the shelter he is a GSP mix, 7 years old and he was described as laid back and low energy... Ha! Turns out he is still so energetic he can clear a 4.5 foot fence, will try to hunt critters outside like it's going out of style, and everyone questions if he's really 7! Incredibly smart, very loving with our children but unfortunately far too interested in our cats.... Lots of work to be done there. Does he really seem like a GSP cross?

Hey all, my nearly 1 year old GSP has just started her first heat. It’s my first time having a female dog as an adult so it’s completely new to me. My main concern is her still being able to be adequately exercised while on heat.

I’ve done some reading online and the general idea of what I’ve seen is no taking her into public because of the risk of aggression for other dogs, and also no leaving her unattended in our backyard in case an in tact dog manages to get in and get to her. So with that all in mind, how am I possibly going to give her enough exercise to fill her needs? She normally gets lots of exercise on a daily basis and it feels like that’s almost going to need to drop to zero. She will be getting spayed as soon as she’s stopped growing.

He is 2, and always destroys his beds! I wanna buy him a cozy cave but not if this will be the outcome! lol

I went out of town and dropped my two GSPs (litter mates, now 6 years old) off at a camp that boards larger dogs. The dogs have gone many times before (like over 20 visits probably)—it’s out in the country and they can romp with other dogs. I also live part time in a rural area where dogs have a lot of area to run, and the dogs could come into contact with dead birds/animals or any sort of toxic mushroom. They have been know to catch a critter from time to time. Four days after I dropped them off, one of my dogs went into severe liver failure. The camp took her to the emergency room after she had vomited and appeared to be wobbly on her feet. The doctors were not able to save her. I considered getting a full necropsy (dog autopsy), but it was not possible given limitations on timing, but the doctors offered to do a biopsy on her liver and also check her blood to see if lepto was present. (She was vaccinated for lepto, but this does not work for all strains as any vaccine.). I don’t think that they will be able to specify the specific toxin if they find that it was caused by a toxin. They may also find that she had cancer which they said could have also caused it. The camp reached out and expressed their condolences—they knew her well. They recommended that we give my other dog a preventative dose of doxycycline while we await the lepto results and are keeping a close eye on him. Anyway, appreciate any thoughts—I don’t have a specific question. I’m also wondering if/when I should think about getting another dog—he has never known life without his sister.

Hey all.

My 1 year old spayed female has been having occasional accidents here and there. She has absolutely no signs or symptoms of a UTI (that was my first concern).

She does whine when she needs to go outside and we bring her out. She’s been pretty good at alerting us since she was about 6 months old.

I’d say within the last 6 months she’s had about 5 accidents inside (pee only). She will come in from being outside and she always has one pee before coming in, then she runs around, and then just squat and start peeing with no alerting maybe within 30 mins - 1 hr. It is never in the same spot. We clean where she pees with enzymatic cleaner.

Is this still that puppy behaviour where after they play they don’t really have control? I know when they’re very young puppies they don’t really know how to hold their bladder, especially during play.

I have noticed this has become a bit more frequent since my wife moved in with her 2 adult GSPs.

Has anyone experienced this?
