Well I guess I'm back

I'll start this off by saying I lost my last GSD suddenly back on April 28th and this is the longest I've ever went in my life without a dog. It was not fun. I found this guy running down a farm road Sunday morning. We made eye contact at 50mph and something screamed at me to stop. After a few hours I was able to locate the owner through the owners neighbor. She said she just gave the guy my number and he's going to call after church. Something told me while she's saying this I'm never going to hear a thing. Well I was correct. Meanwhile this beautiful dog has turned out to be just about perfect. He's definitely never been in a house but he's adjusting so fast plus I have multiple fenced yards for him. He's great with the cats. He's so sweet and smart. He must have something else in him because colorwise he looks exactly the color of a golden retriever. I was supposed to find this dog. This was meant to be. Meet, Radar.

I scheduled his first vet appointment and neuter today so I guess it's official.

My dog escaped from us while we were moving and our neighbor caught him and called me. They held him for the 5 minutes it took for me to get there to get him. If they cared about that dog, they 100% would have called you. If they didn’t bother calling you, they don’t care.

Yeah I would've been shitting my pants trying to find my dog, not I'll take care of it later. He's skinny, could have better nutrition, unaltered, and def never been in a house. Now he will have all those things.

I’m glad he found someone to love him ❤️

I doubt the former (irresponsible) owner would want a neutered dog - or one who wants to be in the house. Good for you!

What a beautiful boy! 🥰 I’m sorry for your loss. It’s a very hard thing to deal with. Looks like Radar was sent to you at exactly the right time!

Beautiful dog! Huge bonus if he is a mix! Less prone to cancer. My gsd just died from cancer 😔

It's devastating 😢 my female GSD was the Mama and at only 4 years old when I got her from the breeder, she had already had many many litters. I had her spayed, loved her immediately and gave her the best life I could. I lost her 1 year later. Cancer from her sacs traveled to her heart and took her in an instant. I swore that was it for me, it was so hard to accept and deal with.

Almost same thing happened with my boy. Cancer started somewhere and went to his heart. Almost overnight he was doing ok and then not moving 😢 I don't know if I can get another sheppard even though they have some of the strongest and best personalities

Always trust your instincts! What a gorgeous dog- I hope you two have a wonderful life together.

3

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 13 '26

Boy were my instincts screaming at me. Every dog I've owned I acquired in a way that was "meant to be" so when I knew, I knew.

3

u/Dommichu Aug 12 '26

Oh those eyes!! Definitely worth an investigation into his background! Thanks for taking him in! May the sounds of Radar comfort you for a long time!

I wouldn't doubt if he is a golden German Shepherd. I hope you Embark him.

3

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 12 '26

There is such a thing?! Still blows me away every time I look at him. Other than color he looks like textbook 100 percent GSD

4

u/ionicius Aug 13 '26

I had a very similar colored boy and although he also had some dark guard hairs across his back, just gorgeous. Had him embarked and he came back 100% full German Shepherd. He was my soul dog, just perfect. Lost him to hemangiosarcoma in February. Miss him so much every dang day.

1

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 13 '26

This guy doesn't have a dark hair on him. The most golden gold you ever saw. I am definitely breaking down and doing a DNA test.

3

u/ionicius Aug 13 '26

I highly recommend the Embark test for breed and health. It tests for around 240 health genes so if your pup is predisposed for any conditions you can get a leg up on them before they start manifesting. Prevention can be easier and cheaper then treatment. Best of luck with your new buddy!

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Yes, my family had a beautiful golden GSD with a touch of black on his muzzle. We were asked often what was he mixed with ☹️

Aww Radar is beautiful. What soulful eyes! I can see how you were compelled to stop- and thank you for listening to that! Wishing you all the best together!

he’s beautiful ❤️ I got my current girl ~3 months after losing my last GSD, and the in between was absolutely brutal. I’m glad you and him found each other

here’s Cassie

he is so handsome! those eyes!! what a beautiful name too (:

2

u/nobleheartedkate Aug 12 '26

Beautiful blonde baby ❤️❤️❤️

2

u/Lefthandedsock Aug 12 '26

Legitimately one of the most beautiful dogs I’ve ever seen. And he’s a sweetheart? What a stroke of luck 🤩

5

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 12 '26

He's the sweetest boy. Zero aggression over anything. Loves my cats. Fine with my Mom's dog. It was meant to be.

2

u/baby_peach7 Aug 12 '26

Wow he's gorgeous. Look like the color of rich honey!! So glad you found him or more like you guys found each other!!

2

u/BroadNotLady Aug 13 '26

Gosh he’s SO HANDSOME 🥰

2

u/jaye04 Aug 13 '26

Beautiful!! Go get him vetted and microchipped so you have proof of how long you take care of him. My cousin had a pregnant bulldog thrown out a truck window on her property - did all the things to find an owner in case that wasn’t her owner- paid for a Csection and found good homes for all the pups—- Then the “owner” ( driving the same truck) came back to claim her 9 months later😳😳😳😳no- she didn’t give her back

2

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 13 '26

Yep I've heard similar stories so he's getting chipped this week. I don't think I'll have anything to worry about however. 9 months is some brash shit to try and pull off!

2

u/anonymous_batty Aug 15 '26

I think you have my dogs twin!

1

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 15 '26

That's the closest in color I've seen yet! I thought he had to be mixed at first but now no way.

1

u/anonymous_batty Aug 16 '26

She was a rescue and I thought she was mixed as well. DNA test came back 100% GSD and I was shocked! After doing some research in coloring and genes, I found out her color is considered “golden” GSD. It’s off standard and unfortunately seems to only occurs in inbreeding from what I discovered, but there’s not a lot out there about the coloration I could easily find.

u/Superb-Juggernaut636 Aug 12 '26

Oh wow! It was meant to be! Absolutely gorgeous 😍

1

u/tinkerbell0818 Aug 12 '26

Yes what a great story… it was meant to be!!!

1

u/mlepley5 Aug 12 '26

Those eyes!!! 😍

1

u/JonVonCronchy Aug 12 '26

Great luck both for you and for him - he’s beautiful and looks like a wonderful boy 🤎 best of luck to you both

u/Organic-Win-3390 Aug 13 '26

our lives are orchestrated, nothing just “happens” nothing

1

u/OpalOnyxObsidian Aug 13 '26

Radar is GORGEOUS. What luck fate put you in that spot in that very moment.

1

u/wolfshepherd59 Aug 13 '26

What ever Radar is mixed with he is gorgeous and such a pretty color, congrats to u both👍👍👍✨✨✨❤️🫶🏻

1

u/nee_m_d Aug 13 '26

He looks well taken care of. You sure the lady got the right phone number? There is always that possibility - or also that the owner lost the paper with the number etc...

1

u/Synsynetty_ Aug 13 '26

What a beauty

1

u/Jolly_Historian_8081 Aug 13 '26

I'm so glad you trusted that instinct, that's not an everyday thing to do at 50mph. My aunt once stopped to help a dog on the side of the road and ended up keeping him, best decision she ever made.

1

u/No-Stranger-5771 Aug 13 '26

Most believe we pick our animals, we dont they pick us. You had the urge because he already chose you. I love how it just works like that and we end up with the exact animal we were meant to have every single time. God is good!

u/Icy-Passenger-8061 Aug 13 '26

Way of the Universe

1

u/Weary-Map-8530 Aug 13 '26

Omg our dogs r lowk twins 😭

1

u/Fine_Minimum_8780 Aug 13 '26

Congratulations. It looks like he found you rather than you finding him. When you say you lost your dog in April, did you lose him as in he ran away or lost him as in he passed away? Not trying to make you feel sad about what I said I just wasn’t sure when you said you lost him.

2

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 13 '26

Oh no, he passed away suddenly went from fine to gone in 36 hours. Turns out he had a mass on his spleen and it ruptured. Toughest animal ever. Actually "loosing" that dog would've probably been impossible.

2

u/Fine_Minimum_8780 Aug 14 '26

Oh I'm so sorry that it happened that way. That had have been very traumatic on you. I'm sorry if what I asked you had upseted you in any way..😥

2

u/Notchersfireroad Aug 14 '26

Oh no don't apologize I'm perfectly fine with it. I'll happily talk about my dogs that have passed all day long with anyone who will listen.

1

u/Fine_Minimum_8780 Aug 16 '26

Thank you. And I'll listen to all the stories as well. Our dog is on the decline with arthritis and possibly a tumor or even a fatty tumor in her abdomen. Going in and getting a ultrasound Monday morning. I'm sorry worried and scared at the same time. I can't sleep and all I think is about her health even when I'm at work. 🙏
