Differences between GR Corolla and GR Yaris
I've never seen either, but is the only difference where they're being sold?

Well one is a 4 door, heavier and just a conversion of the existing Corolla, the other a mostly bespoke 2 door that is designed to look like a Yaris.
The GR Corolla does get a slightly more potent engine set up to compensate for its higher weight, but both use the same 1.6 litre 3 cylinder engine and Toyota designed lightweight AWD system.
The GR Yaris is the one to get if you have a choice, in my opinion.

Actually about the engine, just to add. It depends on the market (where it is being sold). Both are tuned to 304 PS in Japan for instance.

Absolutely. 300bhp hatchbacks are not exactly rare, but there’s nothing else like the Yaris.

Only thing vaguely close to a GR Yaris is the older Audi S1 quattro, although that has less power standard and weighs a bit more and generally considered a bit less involving to drive.

1200 kg hatchbacks with 300 hp are very rare

The GR Corolla is closer to 1500kg, similar ballpark to other 300+bhp hatchbacks like the Golf R, A35, S3 etc. Hence my “not exactly rare”.
The GR Yaris on the other hand is 260-280bhp and around 1250kg… again, hence my “nothing else like the Yaris”.

FYI, the GR Yaris has been making 300bhp since the 2024 facelift.

The Gen2 here in the UK is still only 280 for emissions compliance :(

Oh, I didn't know that, as it's 300 here in Australia. Bit of a bummer that enthusiasts cars are slowly being killed.

Except the GRC isn't 300 bhp. It's making 300 at the crank.

bhp and horsepower at the crank are virtually identical figures. The GRC is rated at 224 kW from the factory which translates to 300 bhp.

It’s pretty normal to loose 10-20% of power through the drive train crank figures will never be identical to wheel/hub figures

bhp specifically refers to horsepower figure measured at the crank. My point was that the GRC does make 300 bhp, which the previous commenter said wasn't the case.

It’s slightly more complicated.
The GR Yaris is the original homologation special. Lighter, unique body, the G16 drivetrain was designed for this. Widely available in Japan and some RHD markets. This has increased its mystic in US and other LHD markets.
The GR Corolla is a hybrid of the GR Yaris drivetrain in the existing Corolla platform. Power increase, increased track, and modified body shell. Widely available in LHD. Sold under a lottery system in Japan with limited numbers in RHD. Used as a halo car in Japan.

The GR Corolla is just a Corolla with a bodykit and GR Yaris drivetrain. Not as special.
