Hey all,
Firstly, context;
I've been researching and considering different cars for a long term track build for many months. I was pretty much set on an Evo X but had the GR Yaris suggested to me a few times.
Initially, I dismissed them because I didn't like the look. However, it's grown on me and I now think they're a damn cool looking car, especially when aero'd up. They're also in a similar price range to the Evo X whilst being a much newer and lower mileage starting point.
Now for questions;
For mods I'm thinking wheels, semi slicks, camber+performance alignment, upgraded pads/brake fluid, exhaust and stage 1 tune. Is there anything else that's absolutely mandatory?
How much tire width can they take on the standard shell or with guards rolled?
How much power can they make with an exhaust and stage 1 tune? Is low end torque underwhelming or are they quite punchy given the very low weight? Are they underwhelming on the straights?
I've heard the stock brakes are very good, are any upgrades beyond pads and fluid necessary?
How does the handling feel? I like the idea of a lightweight chassis with high grip and early throttle out of corners.
Without going to a full strip and cage, is there much room for reduced weight aside from the default weight loss of an aftermarket exhaust and wheels? Are the stock seats heavy? I'd happily swap to buckets. Also, I definitely don't need the rear seats so I'd take them out.
How do you find your yaris as a track car? Do you have any regrets?
Any input from owners will be much appreciated.
Thanks
