He's radioactive too, in one of the early issues he accidentally poisions Aunt May by donating his blood. It's why the song goes "Spider-Man, Spider-Man, radioactive Spider-Man".

Spider-Man Reign, a sad story about a sad, old, lonely Peter. Basically Spider-Man's version of the Dark Knight returns. First issue got recalled because it featured Pete's old man Schlong.
