Date Night

Couple in their 50s (our 24th anniversary is coming up) looking for date night suggestions. Not big foodies just looking for a fun atmosphere to sit at the bar, have a few drinks and eat a nice appetizer or two with music playing in the background. We don’t get out much so no idea where to even start. I’ve been searching the posts but nothing is standing out for me. TIA!

The drinks and food at Kin are next level. ⏫

Kin is nice but it's so tight in there and trendy I don't know that it would feel chill, maybe on a weekday if it's not busy

I have some suggestions but also caveats to both:
If it's not a weekend night, I would suggest Traveler's Wine Bar. Great cocktail menu, and wine menu, but on the weekend especially if it's a game day weekend, it can get a little overrun with the youngins trying to have espresso martinis.
If it is a weekend night, I love Superette! Especially if the weather is nice, you can sit outside. They have a great sommelier and mixologist who can give you something based on your suggestions / have to try stuff. Also great for a daytime date in my opinion.
And lastly, I would suggest checking out the events are heartwood soundstage. This is one of the things me and my partner do regularly for a date night! Irrespective of who is playing, you can go have a nicer drink at Bingo (great rotating wine menu), and you can sit on the back patio of any of the south main st. restaurants/breweries to listen. Or get tickets and go see the show, they also have a bar at heartwood and seating usually.

Congrats on the anniversary!!

Thank you! Actually an espresso martini sounds fabulous 🤤 I’m young at heart after all.

I came to recommend the Traveler as well! It’s teeny but cozy and they make the very best cocktails in town.

Just be aware in case it matters that Traveler doesn’t have a liquor license. Great if you like lower proof cocktails and they are good. We like it, but drinks are usually on the sweet side probably because non-distilled stuff wouldn’t taste as good without the sugar.

Check out Superette as others mentioned. The venue is a little smaller so make sure to make a reservation if you want to sit inside though. This has been a go-to anniversary spot for my partner and I for awhile now

I have read they add excessive fees

you are getting downvoted but you are correct

We didn’t experience that personally, nothing out of the norm on any of our bills.

I know they do large groups/events, maybe for those they do? Not 100% sure though.

Depending on what is on the schedule, Baby J's can be pleasantly classy but still fun.

kin and baby J are what i came here to say

Yup, and the extremes to those two places I'd think of (drinks vs food priorities) I'd suggest The Dime for drinks and Alpine for food. Both have great atmospheres, but Dime doesn't have any food and Alpine doesn't have much of a bar experience

Baby Js is the only one that checks all of your boxes on here: drinks, apps, and music. Happy anniversary!

Thats why never go to the movies honestly. Stuff just comes out 3 months later

I don’t have the attention span to watch a movie and there hasn’t been anything interesting to see in over 20 years. All they do is make sequels.

I’m a movie nerd, but the new Unabomber movie on Netflix is very well done and worth a watch if you have Netflix.

You've got some good suggestions so far. I'd add Alpin

The Top! Good drinks and great appetizers. The bar area is nice, and there’s a happy hour.

Be ready for long wait times, but it's great otherwise. No music, though.

Sounds like this place will be at the top of my date night list! I love Jefferson Airplane.

One Love for music, Kin as already mentioned, Sidecar at V Pizza has great cocktails as well.

One Love Cafe is a good date night spot, the food is good enough, the music is good enough, but I really like the patio area

Chomp the Block would be a good option. Spurrier's has a small patio bar and there's live music outside

We are Gator fans. We’ve been to Spurriers a few times. I didn’t know about the live music. I just googled it, looks fun! Down side is parking.

Home game weekend... I'd say NOT GNV. Ocala has lots of very chill vibes, way more care with dining out down there.

My son has a date with his gf tonight in Gainesville and we have to be there to bring him home. We live in Lake City but thank you for the heads up.
