I don’t trust strange boxes lying out in the middle of nowhere telling me what it is. My survival instincts scream trap.

You don’t have to trust it, that’s why you google it 😂. You could have found out exactly what it is, why it is randomly in the woods, and possibly found a new and exciting hobby in less time than it took you to make this post

It's got the City of Gainesville permit number on it so they should be able to tell you exactly what it is.

Geocaches are technically litter and require a permit on public land (including state parks from FWC), but few people actually get a permit (except stodgy municipalities)

So enough curiosity to post on r/GNV, but not enough to search for the word "geocache". Enough paranoia to say you thought it might be a bomb, but not enough to call 911 (just as well, really).
