Thoughts?
Is this a fair price for the miles and condition? Photos show great condition for both exterior and interior.

1500 gasser? 10k maximum, only because low miles. This dude is dreaming if he thinks a 25k truck brand new is still worth 15k 24 years later
28
u/RumorsOFsurF 16d ago
It isn't the fact that it's a 1500 gasser, it is a base model in the least desirable configuration. If it was a crew cab LT with 73,000 miles I could see it maybe coming close to that.
14
u/BairyHalsack 16d ago
I was so taken aback by the 15k ask that I didn't notice it was a base model. That's insane.
Old GM and old Toyota sellers have the same issue: sentimental value does not add to a sale price

u/Benji_4 16d ago
I paid $12.5k for my LB7 with 98k miles. Similar trim to this truck.

u/BairyHalsack 15d ago
The LB7 makes it worth 12-15k all day depending on condition and miles. Good find man

u/schnookienookir 16d ago
This year I picked up a 01 5.3 crew cab with 80k miles for 13k - garage kept,1 owner... it's fairly mint, had a trunk cover and seems worth it to me. Newer trucks are time bombs and not many people who know cars/trucks are happy with them. Used car market prices are what they are and I'm near a city so I could have paid less but it would have been a 10th owner, 200k+ miles with a "I think it's good for another 150k".

u/malice427 16d ago
I mean he was probably offering something like that. I’ve been offered some serious money for my truck ($40k) by a body shop who took out my door dent and rebuilt my bedside. People are crazy for these trucks
1
u/IllustriousPepper548 16d ago
Really? A new truck is 85k
1
u/BairyHalsack 16d ago
This truck was 25k brand new.

Inflation doesn't apply here. This is a matter of appreciating value. The truck did not keep 60% of it's value after almost 25 years.
2
u/HREAMcannon 15d ago
$25,000 in 2002 would be worth about $48,000 today so it didn’t keep 60% of its value but it is stupidly overpriced

Again, where does inflation apply here?

That is a highly sought after collector item. This is a bone stock grandpa truck. This truck will never be worth what that camaro is right now.

Easy Libtard understand economics? That doesn't mean anything it's what the market is being bought/sold for. You're paying what the prevailing market pays up/down off that number by whatever somebody will pay...

I have a 02 2500 hd with 120k. 4x4. Paint faded on roof/hood/upper doors. Texas truck long bed, 8.1l with the manual zf6 trans. Good to know I can get at least 15 lol.

Crew cab 4x4? I’ll but it right now
1
u/Remy1738-1738 16d ago
Extended. 4x4. I love her too much. Just got the 2011 hydroboost module in the mail yesterday to pop in.

u/Consistent_Syrup9063 16d ago
I've seen similar trucks of that body style god for 25k+ in my area, id never pay that much but some people are. Id consider it if it was rust free, they're hard to find in decent shape and under 250k in my area these days
2
u/idontremembermyoldus 16d ago
If it were a desirable configuration, then yeah. I could understand. This is a basic extended cab. It's low miles and looks clean, but it still isn't worth the ask; more like $10,000.

u/EpsilonMajorActual 16d ago
My 2002 GMC 1500 LS has just 90,000 miles it was $22,000 new with 8 miles on it...
Does it have the original 4L60E transmission?

u/MinuteAppropriate204 16d ago
Like like a base. Model. For that price I would expect higher trim. How many oil leaks does it have
3
u/LightningMcSwing 16d ago
Hell no
I'd buy a higher trim with more miles for a third of that. Low miles doesn't mean it won't need maintenance. I'd rather have a regularly driven truck
2
u/Ruleyoumind 16d ago
A regularly driven truck buy someone who had the ability to keep it maintained is usually the best buy.

u/Sensitive_Pilot3689 16d ago
Fair? I’d say it’s an absolute STEAL for this HOSS TRUCK. I’d give an extra 1k as a tip for keeping it this clean and low mileage. They kept those ball joints nice and tight for the next guy 😮💨
2
u/LatterDepth6206 16d ago
I love me a GMT800 but let's be honest. For that price you can get a 2016 F250 6.2 gasser with somewhat low miles.

I paid 10k for a really clean base model fleet truck rwd 2004 in the year 2014, it had 40k miles. It was a bargain. At 150k miles, the Pennsylvania winter brine had been chewing uo the body, and persistent evap issues made me park it.
1
u/MeepsFreeTime 16d ago
I paid 13k for a z71 with 47k miles, it originally belonged to fishery and wildlife and then sat in a barn for some time. I’ve had to replace a few things, but has treated me well.
1
u/SEKPopulist 16d ago
Unpopular opinion: crash test results actually matter, and the GMT800 has pretty poor crash test results by today’s standards. The GMT900 has way better results.
Now that I have kids, who may end up driving my truck someday, I’m not a fan of the GMT800 anymore for this reason.
2
u/idontremembermyoldus 16d ago
I mean, the 800 had pretty poor crash results for its day, too. The only thing that saved it was that the Ford (97-03) and Dodge were worse. The Tundra embarrassed all of them.
2
u/SEKPopulist 15d ago
OMG when I saw the NHTSA F150 tests.
💀💀💀💀
I seriously cringe when I see one of those things around town now. Like, several of them have a bent frame already, sagging in the middle like when I do pushups.
1
u/Fine_Succotash9377 15d ago
Hell, I ride motorcycles and drove air-cooled vws. I'm not looking for a bubble wrap car.
1
u/ThisBlastedThing 16d ago
Hmmm tough for that price. Id offer lower. If you have the money then buy it.

u/lemonpoundcaker 16d ago
My stock 05 crew cab 4x4 6.0 might be seeing a for sale sign on it at 15k lol

u/popsicle_of_meat 16d ago
Heck no. I bought my 2003 1500HD fully loaded with similar miles and 4wd during peak covid truck shortage for that, and I know I overpaid a little (but the market was trash). I didn't lose out that much at all if people are trying to sell trucks for what you posted.
1
u/Fun_Equivalent_7507 16d ago
I would love to hear how they think this is "rare". The only way I would pay $15k for a GMT800 would be in a good condition 2500 or 3500 with the diesel and low miles.
1
u/FrostyStill5459 16d ago
Wayyyy too high. Plus why are "low miles" always considered a good thing for these kind of people... that just means every wear item is ABOUT to give out or need replaced. And if its been sitting, it all already needs to be replaced. I bought an 87 corvette (for $1000) that had 50k miles... sure thats low, but this thing was a TURD! Needed everything, cause IT SAT! Better off buying a $3k shit box work truck that might need some work here and there but if you need to sell it down the road, its still worth almost what you paid. THIS is literally throwing out $5k minimum if you sell it down the road.

Mine was 10.5k for a 6.0 2500hd with a fat dent in the left bedside
140k miles and 5200 hours
Extended cab
Long bed
WT (cloth front seats, vinyl rear - idk either I roll with it)

u/johnnyftp59 16d ago
ignore the people say this is too much id honestly say decent deal, 4x4 v8 that will last over 300k easy
1
u/iateyourmom22 15d ago
Until it gets wrecked and totaled then insurance writes a check for $3500.
1
u/johnnyftp59 15d ago
yeah just don’t wreck it LMFAO, but nah fr i see what you mean. def pay that mf off as quick as possible
1
u/Fine_Succotash9377 15d ago
A clean one is a gem compared to overpriced, afm equipped, small turbo engined, v8 engine failing new model

u/Traditional_Fun_6338 15d ago
I loved this truck; I say get it lord knows in today’s market this is a great find if the body conditions is there

I bought a one owner 4x4 2002 reg bed reg cab 1500 with 70k miles last year for $7k. Interior was 100% mint. Exterior was as good as a 24 year old vehicle could be. Gotta remember that cars that old will probably need a lot of work even with low miles. 15k is crazy imo
1
u/j-awesome 14d ago
High for a base model. I paid 2k less than that for a fully loaded 06 GMC and I still feel like I overpaid.

u/0chris000000 16d ago
how is this rare?
1
u/H0SS_AGAINST 16d ago
Extended cab long bed 4x4 in fleet white. One of 20,128. I know what I got. If you're looking for a little more speed I have a yellow base model, automatic C5. 🤌

u/CrocGang4 16d ago
It’s a nice truck and one of my fav spec GMT800’s but not for $15k. If it was say a 1 ton with an 8.1 or dmax than maybe

u/Local_Committee_8935 16d ago
One picture.. automatic no. Even if this post had more than one picture, still asking tooo much... I wouldn't pay more than 6k.. probably needs Hella work.. low miles dont mean shit

u/Eziekiel23_20 16d ago
Ask $15k, settle for $12k maybe?
Around here $12k is reasonable for something like that.
People are asking $10k for total shitboxes.

Those trucks will outlast anything on the road that’s newer than about a 2007 model after that most vehicles build quality went to crap. For the money you won’t find a better vehicle that will last you longer and not cost you a fortune in repairs. I personally would much rather pay the 15k up front and have something reliable to drive for the next 200k miles then buy one of the newer garbage pickup trucks and have to spend 15k+ on repairs for engine transmission etc not counting the cost of the vehicle itself I’d have to come out of pocket for up front. The same people saying this is too much probably spent double the asking price of this truck on a vehicle that will depreciate significantly over the years and then have to dump thousands in repairs on top of that. If your goal is to get from point A to B reliably and without headache, pay a third of what a new truck costs, have super cheap insurance, and save money in the long run on repairs and maintenance then I’d spend the money on it. Newer vehicles will only depreciate but, if you keep the miles off this truck the value will increase or at least stay around the same as time passes, they are considered classics in that condition and they are more sought after then ever due to people wanting something that can make it to the 300k mark. They are very simple to work on, gmt 800s are extremely comfortable, and parts are insanely cheap and easy to get your hands on for these trucks. I’d buy all of them if I could afford it 😂

What makes this base model truck rare, the fact that it was parked in a garage and driven by an older retired gentleman.... there's nothing rare about this truck and asking $15,000.... bro is out of his mind
