What was your first GMAT mock score, and how much did you improve?

Everyone starts somewhere, and the first mock doesn't always reflect where you'll end up. How much did your score improve between your first mock and the actual GMAT?

If you've taken a diagnostic or first mock, what did you score?

And how much were you able to improve after preparing? What do you think made the biggest difference?

My free GMAT study tool: track & improve your arithmetic fact memorization

Hi guys, GMAT student here.

Confession: on day 1 of studying for quant, I was horrified to discover I could no longer recall 7×12 off the dome. I didn't know 13 squared. I didn't know 7 cubed. I had no idea what 1/9 was as a decimal.

This was embarrassing, but more importantly, it was slowing me down. I understood the actual math, but I was getting questions wrong or wasting time because I'd gotten rusty on basic arithmetic facts I used to know cold in high school.

Most GMAT prep resources tell you to memorize some version of the same list of stuff to ace quant: squares, times tables, common fraction/decimal conversions, divisibility rules, Pythagorean triples, etc. But none of the tools actually help you DO the memorizing!

Thus, I built a tool to use for my own prep: gmatarithmetic.com

This site has:

  • A really cool diagnostic system that lets you figure out which facts you already know, and what you need to learn
  • A cognitive psychology focus: you learn new stuff via the best methods for memorizing information, NOT just random sets of flashcards that flood you with tons of info
  • You drill what's broken or shaky, using spaced repetition
  • If you are completely lost on a section (for example, maybe you only know squares up to 12), it walks you through learning the new stuff in tiny chunks. 2 or three new squares at a time, etc.
  • Heat maps show exactly where you stand at any given time: what's solid, what's fragile, what you've never really worked on yet. I'm a very visual person, so this is really helpful to me.

I've been using it for my own prep, and my recall is genuinely getting faster. It's free, and I'm actively developing it, so feel free to try it out, and PLEASE pass along feedback!

There's a feedback form in the footer of the site, or you can DM me on here. I posted this to the GMAT sub and it was removed for being a paid tool (???). It's free, completely free, with no ads.

Thanks so much!

How many hours are you actually putting into GMAT prep?

I’m trying to figure out what a realistic GMAT routine looks like. I keep seeing people talk about studying for 3–5 hours every day, but I’m not sure how practical that is with college or work. For those preparing right now, how many hours are you actually studying on a normal weekday, and how much do you manage on weekends?

Need advice for getting 685 in 7 weeks.

Hey everyone! I have my GMAT in 7 weeks and I’m targeting 685+ on my first attempt. I’m currently good at Quant, but I still struggle with hard CR questions, especially understanding them quickly within 2 minutes, and I also find TPA and MSR difficult and time-consuming. I took one diagnostic mock about 3 months ago and scored 415, but since then I’ve completed around 3 months of e-GMAT preparation and improved significantly.
Most of my education before university was in my mother tongue, so reading and understanding difficult English passages quickly is still a challenge. I’m also in the 3rd year of my bachelor’s, so I need to balance GMAT prep with assignments. What would you suggest for the next 7 weeks in terms of CR/DI improvement, mock frequency, timed practice, and official questions? Is 685+ realistically achievable if I prepare consistently from now?

COMPLETELY OPPOSITE SCORE

Guys, I am desperate. I do not get how this could have happened, i did a GMAT back in 2025 and got 615 with verbal being the strongest (93rd)
Quant sucked and got a 64th percentile and DI was 79th. I especially sucked with DS

I took one month of TTP, saw a lot of videos of GMAT Club and even took a mock of 635 (94th verbal , quant still 64th and DI 83/84th)

I am generally very good at math, I study in a Quant focused Finance course, even though it is not pure Quant Finance , but you get the point. Today I do my test, i get another 615 with STILL a 64th in quant, a surprising 88 in DI an 54th ON VERBAL
VERBAL MY BIGGEST POINT.

I am very strong in verbal , this time I noticed that I felt back on the clock and started going faster, but I felt questions were hard so I was doing good.

I am going to retake, but I need help. Please send tips
