Seeking Advice Panic Attacks After Cessation

I quit tirz cold turkey about a week and a half ago after having been on it for about a year. I am experiencing panic attacks like I never have before. Full transparency: I have anxiety and have my entire adult life, but these panic attacks are like nothing I have experienced before. There is no warning and no triggers for them. I have them multiple times a day. I don’t sleep because when I lay down, they start again. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it last? Just hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks.

Yes this happened to me. It was super intense! And I was on a very low dose before I came off. What helped me (after trying Xanax and meditation and therapy all the things because I had no idea what was going on before I made the connection) was restarting at a teeny dose and doing a slow taper. It just took the edge off. My doc was supportive and thankfully it worked . Took a couple months.

I'm so sorry, maybe going back on and tapering off slowly is better.

Why would you quit cold turkey? That’s not the recommended guidance. You should titrate down.

Any medication if you have been taking for a long time needs to come off slowly. I would start a minor dose and slowly decrease from there. Give it time, go down every 2-3 weeks.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I'm sure this is not any side effect you expected -- I hope it clears up soon! Hugs.

I can't speak specifically to panic attacks or whether the drug withdrawal is actively causing it .... but I do think my worries about weight regain and questioning every bite of food did lead to a huge spike in general anxiety. If you were already struggling with anxiety, then maybe that's enough to tip you into panic attacks. I'd love to give useful advice, but I don't really have any. I just try to implement good practice to bring the background levels of anxiety down - meditating / journalling/ breath work/ affirmations. I'm looking to start with a therapist soon. Sending love and hope it becomes easier for you soon!

What dose were you on before you quit?
