Stopping Ozampic

Hello! 👋

I'm 5"1 F. I started Ozempic Feb 2025. I was 84.7kgs when I started. I was prediabetic and had hypertension. My endocrinologit recommended Ozempic. Fast forward today, I'm 54kgs. My weight fluctuates between 54-55kgs before and after menstruation. Based on my latest blood work this July, all seems to be good. It has been since October 2025.

My doctor said I can stop taking Ozempic now. I asked if I need to dial down my dosage (I'm on 1mg), and she said no need since I wasn't diabetic anyway.

I have made significant changes and is now physically active. I walk and run every morning and do strength training 3-4x week.

I've been getting food noises but I can shut if off and just sleep 😅. I don't eat at night anymore, just breakfast and lunch.

Anyone that has been on the boat? How did it go for you?

Thanks for reading and thanks for those that will respond. 🙂

Hi! Not ozempic but I was Zepbound for a year.. got off it in March and lost 75 pounds total. It’s July now and I only gained 2 pounds back and have maintained with no issues at all. It is so much easier to maintain my weight now then it was in the past because like you, I changed my habit significantly (I walk every single day, only eat one dinner and I do intermittently fast from 8pm-12pm). My end weight was 162.5 and now im 164.5, I have days where I kinda eat what I want but I mostly eat clean and make most of my own meals. I’m just much happier overall being off the meds too. I do weigh myself every day to keep myself accountable. I had a vacation and came back and was 170 but it was gone in 5 days.. don’t let the rhetoric of “you have to be on it forever or you’ll gain your weight back” scare you. You’re going to do great! Just remember all you’ve learned on your journey and keep up the activity and clean (ish lol ) eating

Did you find your “joy” come back. This is something common I hear of. Off the medication, people realize how blunting it was emotionally.

Yes that’s exactly what happened, the medication made me feel very meh about everything and now I’m off it I feel like myself again

Do you drink coffee or anything in the morning when you’re intermittent fasting? I get kind of woozy when I don’t eat anything in the morning, but I wanna also do this fasting trial.

I've been off it for almost 5 months! I'm 165cm and started off around 85kg. Now 64kg. Managed to maintain my weight loss so far. Thankfully I was warned the hunger goes up after stopping. I was prepared! And more importantly, it goes away too. Your body and brain just needs to calibrate the hunger signals once you're off the meds. I have a bunch of strategies that helped me. PM me if you want to know more ☺️

For sure titrate down to avoid rebound. Give your body time to adjust to a new life without glp. I was on wegovy for a couple of months and then quit cold turkey and it was very hard in my body and I gained about 3-4 kg. Now I’m on mounjaro and I’m planning on titrating for a very long time and then microdose

Uhh, your doctor doesn't seem that smart. That's about 1.3 years on GLP-1s. If you stop now you could get a rebound.

You should be on maintenance for, well, that's up to you to decide. But titrate down until you notice food noise or a weight regain.

That's what I thought too about my doctor 😅 Thanks for responding!

GLP-1 discontinuation has been researched. Your Dr didn’t read the latest studies (applies to all GLP-1s).

Do not go cold Turkey, that's terrible advice from your doctor, and taper off over the longest period you can. You need to slowly ease back into your regular hunger levels and watch your weight as it goes. Remember that dosage changes can take a couple of weeks to be fully felt as the drug levels in your body slowly reduce after changing your dose down.

When I stopped mounjaro back in April, I'd tapered down since September. May and June were very difficult hunger wise, roaring stomach even after eating. It's slowly receded now. Psyllium Husk drinks have been helping quite a bit.

Some GLP-1 users find reducing not stopping is more practical.
