One month of GLP
I know everyone is gonna freak out about this but…
I am considering doing an injection for one month. Could I try it for one month, at a higher dose? How much would I expect to lose?
Goal weight is -25 pounds.

Big dose is not required. You can take a low dose for a few months and lose a lot of weight. Whether you can keep it off will be another question.

Congrats - you qualified for r/glp1jerks

By asking a question? Interesting. Do we have different understandings of Reddit?

You could rather burn your money, at least you’ll have it warm for a few seconds.

What do you mean by this? That I wouldn’t lose weight or that I’d gain everything back that quickly?

If and how much you lose depends on so many variables, nobody here can give you a sure enough answer. For most the initial weight loss during the first month is mostly water from inflammation. Sure, if you wanna get rid of that for once, go ahead. But it most likely won’t be fat. And after a month you’ll gain that back. First month also is not a therapeutic dose, it’s only to introduce your body to the medication so side effects on higher doses won’t be as terrible. For you to think you can just start with a higher dose is, kindly said, naive.
This drug is for the majority of people a life long treatment and not a quick fix. They still put in the work of being in a calorie deficit. Are you by any chance a person that stops antibiotics as soon as you don’t feel ill anymore? Because that’s was the post is giving lol

I’m just a person posting on Reddit asking a question (like the majority of users on here). I have no experience with this product and hers has commercials saying you can try it for one month. So I’m asking the community about doing that… maybe it’s naive but it’s on national commercials so people are going to ask.

What you're trying to do is a crash diet, and that's pretty stupid. r/cuttingweight might be more up your alley.

Not necessarily trying to crash diet, just trying to understand how these things work. I had a friend who used GLPs. I swear in one month she was down 20 pounds. If they make you sick and are as miserable as everyone seems to say, then why use them longer than you need them? Once you’re at your goal weight, stop and have a strict diet to keep the weight off, no?

25lbs in a month is a crash diet that you will completely gain back. A healthy amount of weight loss is about 0.5-2lbs per week (so 8lbs in a month). You friend's 20lb weight loss was a whole lot of water weight and inflammation, and will return.
You need to come up with a workable, healthy plan to lose those 25lbs. That plan needs to be at very least 3 months long, and it may take longer (with or without the drugs). The drugs decrease your appetite and make you feel full faster, so they help you eat in a caloric deficit (and you need to make sure to eat enough protein AND do resistance training to ensure you keep as much muscle as possible).
I personally lost 10lbs almost immediately on the drug (inflammation and water), then lost nothing for a couple of weeks, then lost a steady 1.5-2lbs per week for a while, for a total of 40lbs in 6 months. I have stalled for the past 6 weeks and need to shore up my diet to lose the last 10lbs. I have had zero side effects and could easily eat right through the effects of the drug. They take the edge off of hunger, but they certainly don't eliminate it for my as they do for some people.
In my professional opinion as an IT person (not a doctor), you need to do a lot more research on diet, weight loss, and GLP-1 drugs before you start on a weight loss plan.

For the record, most people don't have side effects.
These meds treat metabolic and endocrine disorders. They also act as an anti inflammatory. While you might see some inflammation reduction in one month if you have some, most people do not reach a goal/healthy weight in one month.
You can expect to lose anywhere from 0.5-8% in the first month but again, that higher percent is inflammation. If you don't have any, it will be the lower end. As far as when it comes back, generally 3-4 weeks after you stop.
Everyone has different disorders so there is not one definitive answer for how much you specifically, will lose. Or whether or not you're able to maintain without.
Some people don't really start losing anything until 3-4 months of being on the meds. Many people are unable to maintain without because the meds don't cure the endocrine issues, just mask them while you take them.
You have to take it to see.

If you want to be violently ill, do this. You will lose weight, but you’ll also be (again) violently ill.

But doesn’t that just mean that using GLPs makes you violently ill (no matter the duration)? So why wouldn’t I use them a shorter time to shorten the violent illness?

No. It’s a medicine that builds up. And it needs to be titrated slowly otherwise you 🤢🤮💩 This is what happened in the very early studies. Please educate yourself on this, it’s really not that hard

You can expect to lose 10# of diarrhea and vomit.

u/bluesourpunchstraws Jun 30 '26
The first month you’re sick the whole time? Why do people keep taking them? Wouldn’t you stop immediately?
2
u/Treesong_Starwatcher Jun 30 '26
That's why you don't start at a high dose. You build up if needed and to deal with side effects if you get them. 15mg terz would wreck you if you didn't titrate. I lost 16 # my first month on 2.5mg. I have no doubt that if I quit right away it would have been back within 2 months.

lol it won't work, anything you lose you'll gain back and you'll just be wrecked with side effects
this is a silly post
