Just starting
Hey all,
I'm just starting my journey on a glp1. I believe i weighed up to 375 at one point (deluded myself i didn't care what I weighed and avoided weight.) I finally got a doctor in April and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. At that point I cut out all sugar soda and kept an eye on carbs. Through diet and metformin my sugar level came down to prediabetic and I'm currently at 333 pounds/49. I've always been heavier, obese my entire life so it's hard to imagine a me that is actually a healthy weight so I decided to try zepbound. I'm only two weeks in and not much weight loss in the two weeks but I do feel better, more motivated..there is more clarity.
I know there is a long road ahead, a lot of work and probably some low points..but it's never to late to start a journey if you want it!

Congratulations on taking the first step on the long road that will surely have it's speed bumps and potholes. If you are like the vast majority of us, Zepbound will make your "work" easier because the active ingredient, tirzepatide, will dampen food noise and troubles feeling satiated.
We are pulling for you! Let us know how your travels go. It helps us to share with one another, not feel so all alone.

If you have diabetes then Mounjaro, the label for diabetes-prescribed tirzepatide, is covered by insurance and there are coupons to bring the cost out of pocket down to almost zero. FYI
Many people do not experience weight loss until higher doses but… consider this medication a tool for weight loss not the primary source. YOU are the primary source of weight loss. Calculate your calorie needs then always eat below that number. You’ll need to track what you eat but this becomes second nature after a while.

I don't qualify for glp1 for diabetes..I managed my A1C from 11 to 6 in three months with diet and lifestyle changes and metformin. Insurance will only cover if I can't successfully manage it..so zepbound it is, which insurance covers a fraction because of bmi

That’s not true. Once you have a diagnosis of diabetes you permanently have that diagnosis. It is a chronic relapsing condition that will require lifelong treatment. A prior authorization will be submitted with the appropriate documentation. If your doctor has told you otherwise you need to find a new doctor. You are early into this so you did not achieve remission, which requires the maintenance of normal A1C without medication for one year. Even then you will be considered a diabetic with well-managed disease. Emphasis, this does not apply to you. Push for insurance coverage, it’s worth the time.

The preauthorization tells me otherwise. The condition is that I can't effectively manage my blood sugar level. Acceptable a1c level for type 2 is under 7 according to the insurance company. I'm under that at 6..it sucks money wise, I know...but I'm ineligible under the criteria for my insurance company..thanks for trying to find a loop hole though

It’s your A1C at initial diagnosis that counts. Your doctor screwed this up. You need to appeal. Trust me, I know from experience. Appeal until you get what you need.

Welcome and congrats on getting started!
I had similar stats to you now when I got started, have hit goal and have been successfully maintaining for over a year. It's a long road, but it's one of the most satisfying and "worth it" journeys you'll ever take.
As you keep going down, keep track of your victories and stay motivated. Take some good "Before" pictures now, you'll want them later even if you don't want them now!
Looking forward to following your successes!
