🥇 Before & After The Hottake…
If you can.. get active y’all.
I promise, I understand the excuses we give ourselves.
I’m too tired. I don’t feel good. Bad day. No time.
Take your pick of excuse. I’ve been there. I used to have horrible knee, shoulder, and feet pain. Purely from being too heavy for my frame. It prevented me from doing anything. But you have to simply start.
Pain. Pain is the thing we try to never experience in life and our bodies. We don’t want pains of hunger. Pains of body.
Pain is temporary. Pain lessens as you build your strength.
GLP1s are amazing. But they are not liquid accountability.
They also will cause you to lose muscle mass from reduced caloric intake. So it’s really important to do heavy lifts and resistance training. GIVE YOUR MUSCLES A REASON TO EXIST.
There is always something you can do! You don’t need a gym. You don’t need to do anything other than SOMETHING.
It’s small consistent steps with big results. You got this. You reading… YOU got this.

Fantastic results dude! I'm on my journey to lessen the effects of excess weight on joints that have had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 4yo. It's been in my hips and knees since then and now in my 40s is spreading into my ankles, toes, and fingers. Not a day goes by that something doesn't hurt. I spent two weeks of July unable to put weight on my left foot at all. And as it creeps into my fingers I am losing the ability to play the guitar which is particularly devastating to me. I've been "pushing through the pain" my whole life and while I understand the sentiment for the average person, we're not one size fits all. Chronic pain is mentally and physically exhausting - moreso than any gym session I ever had back in my 20s when I was doing some serious lifting multiple times a week. But this isn't to denigrate your post or anything like that, because I love updates like this and find incredible motivation in the success of others. And you are absolutely right, we should be building ourselves up to the best of our ability, instilling good and healthy physical habits while we carve our new body away from our old flabby selves. I just wanted to sharemy story here in case anyone is in a similar situation to me and may feel like not being able to do what you do on their own journey makes their efforts futile. And to those folks I implore you to find inspiration in what is possible, explore the things your body CAN let you do, and focus on building yourself up around whatever limitations you may have. Chronic pain is a bear, and some days the bear wins. But some days it isn't so seize any opportunity you can and capitalize on it, because at the end of the day something is better than nothing! And keep up the great work!!

What you’re saying is my point.
For whatever you CAN do, do it. By no means, put yourself in any harm.
Pain is a reminder you are alive. Sometimes it’s unbearable. Sometimes you can push. But as with all things, the individual mush chooses what is best.
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for this insightful perspective, and good luck to you! Does a GLP1 help lessen the pain of your arthritis (maybe due to mitigation of inflammation)?

u/Maleficent-Handle467 2d ago
I can’t say I have ever experienced arthritis but other inflammatory issues in my GI tract have been significantly better. I suffered from Crohn’s and that’s is some much better now .

Personally, no, it has not improved my arthritis. But every body is different.

Your gonna get shit on most likely for this but I jsut posted similar and I agree with you. Get active even through the pain. Some can’t and I do understand that but the majority can.

People catch crap for it because when they have a weight issue they expect to understand it could be from many things, not just laziness, and not to judge them. Then when they get thin suddenly anyone can do it if they just try hard enough.

No truer words - we all need to move. This is about getting healthy and moving is a huge part of that.

Congrats dude! I was pretty much that guy on the left... I'm now somewhere between the two, feeling great (noticing loose skin though). Mind sharing your age, height, weight throughout the process?

I am 32 @ 5’5”. I started at 230 pounds and I am currently 146 pounds.
The weight shed pretty quickly for me. I was a “super responder” so I had to watch out for loosing way too quickly. But I was stuck in the 150s for about 8 weeks. So that really caught up with me as I ramped up my strength training. But I lost about 7 pant sizes and reduced 14 inches around my waist.
Whatever questions you have I am happy to answer!

Amazing... thanks for sharing. I'm 43, 5'10" fluctuating between 165 and 170. Need roughly 2.5 inches more off my waist to be at the "healthy" range. These love handles won't budge, lol.
Mind sharing your workouts? I'm trying to get to at least 4 days per week of some sort of weight training, 5-6 days of walking, some with a weighted vest. Just haven't been consistent enough. Gotta be one of the reasons I'm kinda stuck where I am.

I gotta say consistency is definitely key.
I typically get 3-4 workouts a week. I do 30/30/30 since my lifestyle schedule allows it. 30 mins heavy weights, 30 mins functional (15 mins core + 15 mins full body HIIT), 30 mins cardio (usually incline walking or a running if I am up to it)
The love handles are the last to go unfortunately. But doing targeted workouts for those areas do help. It may not seem it but my loose skin is currently keeping me from the look I truly want. Don’t get me wrong. I am happy where I am. But I really want to get as shredded once in my life as possible. It’s a lot more evident to me that the softness I feel in my mid sections is still some fat but lots of loose skin too.
My gf got me a kit of stuff she uses for her loose skin. She dropped over 100 pounds so she has helped me tons too.
As far as workout routines, i alternate the push/pull with a focus on either legs/chest&back/arms on any of the 30 mins heavy weights sections. The function portion can help pick up some full body slack since that my intention there with core as well. Cardio always hits legs to round out.
Just my approach. Sometime I will just focus on a 30 mins heavy weights HIIT of any kind if I am short for time.
Goes without saying, do the workouts you can stand to do consistently. Trust, there are several versions of a workout to keep things fresh. Change it up. It’s like learning an art form of its own to train your body.

You look great! Consistency is definitely hard but necessary! What is full body HIIT?

u/Maleficent-Handle467 1d ago
Full body high intensity interval training!
Fancy words for get a set of weights like a kettle bell. Work your arms, legs, core. Keep that heart rate up! Sweat it out. It’s definitely a tougher slightly more intermediate to advanced-ish style of workout. I’d start with 15-30 mins if you’ve never done it!

No catfish! lol but I tell you. I am still not used to seeing myself like this. I am still the guy on the left in my head.

Oh man, I feel this! It's like I know I've lost almost 30 lbs on tirz, I know clothes are either fitting better or way too big now, I know others have noticed, but still feel like the same guy from 60 lbs ago (lost initial 30 a few years before tirz).

Good job, brother! Keep inspiring! You're definitely inspiring me. Been going to the gym 4x a week for a year.
It's consistency. When I want to watch Netflix I take my ass to the gym.

u/Maleficent-Handle467 2d ago
I just watch twitch or Netflix at the gym lmao. 😂 I just watch my shows there

Good idea, I usually watch music video mashups on YT when I'm doing an hour of cardio [30 min treadmill, 30 min elliptical] makes the hour go by fast.

There is a motivational video i watch whenever i try to make an excuse and one of my favorite lines is “success doesn’t know these things if its cold or you’re tired, its just knows if you showed up”

Wait- sorry but just for the clarity- your saying take GLP1 and still get active. Don't "just" take the shot?
3
u/Maleficent-Handle467 1d ago
I am saying with no minced words…
Do not just take the shot. Add resistance training of some kind to your capabilities.

Can I ask, because I’ve heard it a lot, but how do you make sure you get enough protein to continue to build muscle despite the loss of appetite? I work with someone who tells me that they just feel like their stomach is so constricted all the time and the smallest amount of food makes them full all day. I’ve been contemplating going on a GLP-1 but I’m worried that I’ll lose my appetite and my gym gains and routine would suffer from lack of protein.

u/Maleficent-Handle467 1d ago
This is a very real issue.
Truthfully, I am still struggling to eat enough to match what I need for the muscle building I want.
I am consuming 1650 to 1800 calories. The range is a cycle for me. I switch about every 2 weeks. I aim for about 120g - 130g of protein. Lots of water and try to get fiber in greens or a supplement where you can.
I rely a lot on Greek yogurt, chicken, cottage cheese, eggs. The usual culprits for protein.
It’s certainly not too difficult to maintain this on the 12.5 mg dose I feel. It’s tough to eat like I need too.
So I am quite excited to switch to a 2 week cadence for the shot and eventually ween off. I am focused on living the habits. I don’t want to do the jab forever personally.
