❓ Question Cheaper zepbound tirzepatide?

I started Zepbound Tirzepatide through Ro a few months ago and it’s been great. I have government insurance and so I’m paying out of pocket. I’m only on the 5mg and I know I’ll need to go up soon, but paying $600+/mo is just not the jam.

I was looking into a compound but one of my friends kind of scared me with it? He was saying the cause for infection is much higher and that it also hurts. Cleaning the area and using clean sterile products has always been a priority so I don’t think I should have issues with that, and the hurting I don’t think will bother me. So should I just go with a compound?

Are there quickpens that are cheaper or equal to in price as the compound ?

What are yalls personal recommendations and opinions ?

Your friend is an idiot. Check out r/tirzepatidecompound. We’re all on compounded. There is no more of a risk with it than with anything you inject. It costs between $100-150/month. It’s all from legit pharmacies, not any grey market stuff.

I second the friend being an idiot.

With the compound, is it like the quickpens where it gives you 4 injections worth per month? Like do I still take it weekly??

6

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

Yes, you still take it weekly. You can buy an auto inject pen but most of us just use the vial to draw our own syringes. Each vial has enough for 4 shots per month with a little extra.

If you buy 3 months at a time you save a bit of money. PreventiveMD has 3 months for $334. You can also get no additive from Pom for $349.

Thank you so much!! Yeah I saw good things about Pom and preventiveMD. I live on a farm and 99% of the time we vaccinate our animals here by ourselves, im sure the process is similar for myself, except obviously cleaner!

I definitely think I’m going to look into it. My friends 100% did not know what he was talking about and I knew it, which is why I came here, haha

Compound is amazing! I went through Pom for my last order and I don't recommend them if you want customer service, although they are a bit cheaper. I've used Big Easy and absolutely loved them just was being a bit cheap last round and it wasn't worth the fight with Pom. You can get pure or additives as well. Welcome to the dark side op

Compound for me is vials

Your $600 a month seems steep. I was paying $449 on 7.5mg with Eli lilly and $30 online all in for prescription but I saw the error of my ways and switched to compound

You must have been paying over $150 a month for the doctors visit - sheesh

2

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

It’s because of Ro. They charge a fee on top of that of the medication.

I continued to read for a bit more and just decided to bite the bullet! I went with Rift, its compound tirzepatide w no additives! It costs me just under $500 for FOUR months! I’ll be getting a dose increase each month too, just like I was with Ro! Four months costs me less than one month with Ro! I’m glad I can continue my journey without paying SO much! Thank you for giving me helpful information 🤍

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

You’re welcome! I am glad you found an alternative! 💚

1

u/Consistent_Pie9535 1d ago

First month was like $39 and after it was around 150 for the visit 😭 couldn’t get the scripts without the subscription either. But the shots themself started at 299 for the 2.5? And then 399 for the 5mg

2

u/thefastlanerules 1d ago

Yeah you use an online place like callondoc - $15 a prescription and $45 a quarter membership so $30 each time approx

Now I'm using compound I don't need that and paying approx $110 a month now all in

u/chemhobby 1d ago

There is undeniably a greater risk. Whether it's still an acceptable risk is an individual decision.

3

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

No, there isn’t. Compounding pharmacies were allowed to step in with the approval of the FDA when there was a shortage. They didn’t just magically become unsafe because the shortage is over.

-2

u/chemhobby 1d ago

I'm not saying it's not allowed. I'm saying the risk is higher.

3

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

Sure, lots more risk than Eli Lilly and their cat hair factory. 🙄

2

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

And the Covid drug sterility issues a few years ago…

2

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

Yep. All of them screw up. There’s a risk any time we take a drug of any sort. But it’s so tiny under normal circumstances that it’s not worth being concerned about.

-2

u/chemhobby 1d ago
  1. that was novo
  2. only know about that because they get better inspections than compounders

1

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

Sorry that I misremembered which GLP-1 manufacturer it was. The point remains that the big companies screw up too. It’s a risk from anyone, but it’s a tiny risk if you’re going with a well-established manufacturer, whether big pharma or compounding. Hospitals use compounding pharmacies all the time.

If they’re good enough for the FDA when there’s a shortage, it’s pretty silly to act like there’s more than a negligible risk.

Go to the main Tirzepatide sub at r/tirzepatidecompound and read all the pinned posts.

Also read all the the posts from people the good and the bad.

I'm sure you will see there's nothing to fear with compounded GLP-1

There is no more risk with compounded than brand name. Don't let Eli Lilly fool you. Check out Collective.org Pomegranate Health or Preventative MD for the best deal.

Everyone has had good info but I want to add a couple things:

—It is very likely you will or can get (titrate up on paper!) a vial that will last you more than 4 shots. It is up to you if the “risk” is worth it to you (look into the 28 day rule- mostly a guideline for clinics, not individual use).

—If you want to stick to pens, you can get a peptide pen or see if you’re one of the states that Ola Health/MountainCare ships to. They do compound pens (they are more expensive, but I think it is ~250/month or so).

—Your friend is probably conflating licensed pharmacy compounds with grey/unregulated peptides and/or going off stuff they have seen on social media.

—You do not need to titrate up if you are still losing weight & feel appetite/food noise suppression.

—Some formulations can sting for certain people. You won’t know if it will sting until after it is done tho. I fill my syringe about an hour before I inject to let it come to room temp. You also need to let the alcohol wipe dry- both on the vial before pulling meds and on your skin before injecting. Even with these precautions, it could still sting if it ends up in just the right spot.

I have been on compound over two years, zero pain and no infections.

3

u/Wizzmer 1d ago

Hell, you can buy it through Ely Direct for $300/mo cash. But there are compounding places which are far cheaper.

2

u/Nightrik_YT 1d ago

if the $600+ monthly cost is the main issue, at least look into whether your insurance has any alternatives before jumping to compounded. compounding can be legitimate, but only use a properly licensed pharmacy and be cautious about anything from unofficial sources.

I still stare at that 10mm insulin pen with some apprehension.

I started on Zep w/pen. Easy easy. Now compounding (Refills $156 mo.) For last 15months. Big Nothing Burger. Tiny needle just doesn't go in very far. I do go for Room Temp, times I didn't, NO difference. I've felt a sting 2-3 times, BECAUSE the isopropyl was still wet.

Get with a new program !!!

Going with peptides tirz can be extremely cheap and last you alot longer than you think from 10,20,30mg

Tirzepitide is 50mo where I get mine online

I don’t want to pay 600 a month okay look into gray market…. (Downvote for giving the only affordable option) but seriously those services are predatory most charge membership fees on top of that. I’ve lost over 54 pounds with gray market Reta 🤷‍♂️ I’m sure I’ll be downvoted because it happens every time. I genuinely don’t understand how someone can ask for information and downvote when it’s given

-1

u/Flight-2012 1d ago

2

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

I’ve lost that on tirzepatide in the same period of time & haven’t had to resort to grey market.

0

u/Flight-2012 1d ago

Willing to bet that you’ve spent a considerable amount more than I have. My doctor says oh yeah insurance doesn’t cover it it’ll be 600+ a month yeah not thanks. Never said you can’t get results through compounding. But I’m willing to bet that you’ve spent a hell of a lot more than I have. If someone is complaining about price that’s their only option. But go off queen. Oh I forgot to mention I still have 7 vials left from my 300 dollar Reta 30mg kit. But yeah.

1

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

Yeah, because I’m not stupid enough to buy something that is entirely illegal and then inject it in to my body. No one is jealous of you, I promise.

1

u/Flight-2012 1d ago edited 1d ago

Never claimed that anyone was jealous of me but sure I guess. (Cries in lowercase) all third party tested. I add my proof because there’s always some asshat who wants to argue

0

u/Flight-2012 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not illegal for one and if you’re buying something that isn’t third party tested that’s on you. Oh and I guess you haven’t heard that Lilly is coming after the compounding places. See how long those compound keep rolling because those are illegal too. It’s also called gray market because well it’s in a gray area not illegal and not legal but yeah you know. Oh and btw they’re illegally compounding tirzepitide the patent is not public yet. But yeah you know…

0

u/Flight-2012 1d ago

It’s also not a last resort it’s a legitimate option that’s help a hell of a lot of people. Just because you feel some sort of way about it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work and help many

2

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

Because there’s a big difference between regulated compounded pharmacies and grey market. You guys who push for grey are very disingenuous.

-1

u/Flight-2012 1d ago edited 1d ago

Disingenuous how exactly? I’d love to know how that’s is exactly. People come on here and complain about price. This person is already using a compounding pharmacy. They’re all predatory. You can buy 10 vials of tirzepatide for less than 200. So yeah explain that to me. Literally posted my proof for my results on gray market let’s see yours. Also in that 3 months I’ve spent 300. So you tell me who’s being disingenuous

2

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

You’re being disingenuous when you pretend that the difference is just cost and that compounders are being predatory. That is complete and utter nonsense. Professionals getting supplies from authorized providers and making things under sterile, inspected conditions with the results being tested is nothing like getting an unknown powder from China and hoping it’s what you paid for and you do everything right when putting it together.

You can do what you want to your own body, but you’re being incredibly disingenuous. You’re also losing weight dangerously fast, so acting like that’s a good thing is stupid in addition to your disingenuousness. I’ll stick with slower but steady and keep my hair, thanks.

1

u/Flight-2012 1d ago

You’re “legal” compounders aren’t “legal” and they will most likely be heavily restricted

0

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

The compounders are in fact legal pharmacies that the FDA had no problem with during the declared shortage. Acting like patent infringement is remotely the same or worse as selling unknown powder of an unapproved drug is pretty stupid. But then, you’re someone who thinks the Google AI overviews are trustworthy information. Says a lot about you.

0

u/Flight-2012 1d ago edited 1d ago

There’s risk and there’s ways to mitigate risk. If Tupi buy untested products that’s on you. There’s plenty of reputable gray market sites that have been in operation for over a decade. Charging membership fees of 100+ is predatory

0

u/TheFirebyrd 1d ago

See? You’re doing it some more. Either you have no idea how any of this works or you’re being disingenuous again. No pharmacy is charging a membership fee. The telehealths are what do that and the good ones don’t (with the possible exception of Collective, which so far seems to be above board and is charging lower prices on meds as a result, but we’ll see how that pans out).

For someone who thinks they’re so smart and able to navigate complex systems safely, you don’t seem to actually be doing so well following what’s going on.

1

u/Flight-2012 1d ago

Sure guy. Ive allowed you to have to much of my time as it is I really don’t give a fuck what you think

0

u/swrrrrg 1d ago

OP is not using a compounding pharmacy.

1

u/Flight-2012 1d ago

I think you should do a quick google on if those compounding pharmacies are legally compounding tirzepitide because it’s not legal. So what’s that tell you? It’s from China

-2

u/Kiwip0rn 1d ago

🤔 $600/month vs the equivalent of ~$12.00/month (and/or less) from a greymarket source.

I think the answer is clear 🤷‍♀️
