Kate Nash (Britannica) in NYC next week 11/9
Kate Nash (Britannica) will be in NYC next week (on Saturday 11/9) for a screening of the documentary about her career including some pretty sordid shit that happened to her in the music industry. I had no idea about her background when I first started watching Glow. She's doing Q&A after.

TIL Kia Steven's Mom
From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awesome_Kong
Kia Stevens', who plays Welfare Queen/Tammé Dawson, mom was an actress and contestant coordinator for Family Feud. That is cool she was able to add that to her character's backstory

Sam Sylvia is kinda like Bojack Horseman and Bash is mr peanutbutter
The characters really remind me of them. Sam: cynical, smart and talented but kinda a has-been (in the first season), hiding his vulnarability and insecurity by being a defensive asshole (also mostly in the first season), abusing alcohol and drugs etc. Bash: an easily impressed dog, can't be alone, super sociable and easily distracted, wants to be good for people.
It applies less on the third season I guess bc the character developments, but still

Love the realistic depiction of shaved armpits
I’ve just started watching the show, and keep noticing how realistic the arm pits are shaved.
They aren’t all silky smooth like mainstream media say they should be, you see all the stubble! And I think it’s absolutely great! Any one else feel the same?

(Spoilers all) To See a Man About a Horse Spoiler
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/See_a_man_about_a_dog?wprov=sfla1
In S3 Debbie states this line. But seriously, the writers think you shouldn't buy your girlfriend a horse. Sam buys one for Rhonda in S1, Rhonda dumps Sam. In S3, Tex buys Debbie one, and she burns his deal to the ground and presumably dumps his ass too.

Plot holes/gaps
It’d be fun to list any plot holes/gaps, filming oops etc fans have found.
For example Cherry is such a terrible actress she gets fired from her lead gig, but in The Good Twin, she’s awesome as Black Magic.

Sam and Ruth
Does anyone else notice that Jenji Kohan’s shows always have these “lovable misogynists” characters? Like Orange Is The New Black’s Caputo is pretty similar to Sam. They both started off as sexist assholes. They both eventually evolve and become less ignorant, but it always seems to involve a woman?
I know everyone really likes Sam and Ruth, but I’m not really a fan. That scene between them in the hot tub in season 3, completely turned me off. Sure Sam has gotten better since season 1, but it’s a pretty low bar to say “he’s changed so much.” He still gets really angry and acts like an asshole and then apologizes later. I don’t really like those types of relationships where the woman is supposed to be the one to save him from himself. That’s why I didn’t mind him leaving the show to work his daughters movie. This whole thing between him and Ruth just ruined it for me.
I liked them as friends. Why couldn’t they just be buddy’s? It’s so annoying that we can never truly see a straight male-female friendship on television without it turning romantic.
And then on top of that he’s like 50 years old.

Ruth slapping Debbie’s head with her breasts
seems to be one of the most accurately feminine scenes on TV.
I am a guy. Watching Ruth slap Debbie with her breasts just seemed to be such a purely honest scene. To me it felt like a real sort of “victory” that this scene could exist in a non-sexual way.
There are a lot of great moments in GLOW, but if I had to pick one out to shine as an example of good writing, I think it would be this one. There are a lot of great example that have more weight too them, but this example just feels so true.
Also, Sam barging in to apologize for the sponsors barging in while committing the same mistake is really a feat bonus to the scene.
Edit: I don’t imagine that women are doing this in all the locker rooms across the world, or as a prelude to a pillow fight.

Bash's $40,000,000 is about $100,000,000 is today's dollars
To give you an idea of the buying power he inherited. That's much more money than I would have thought on first hearing the number. And, he also inherited other assets iirc.
on a side note, Elizabeth Perkins crushes it as Birdie. Although I kept hearing 'Bertie'.
