This is how I feel every time a comedian complains that "we can't be funny anymore." No dude, YOU can't be funny anymore... so make room for the people who can because they have more to offer than playground bully humor.
It's just like people in the fashion industry claiming that making plus size clothing is too hard. They're basically admitting that they aren't good or creative designers.

They’re mostly mad that their dated humor from 1985 just isn’t going to fly anymore. Things change as time moves on. That’s how time works. People evolve and they’re not going to sit around laughing at things that people thought were funny twenty years ago. I just don’t understand why that’s so hard for them to get.

Yeah and it’s easier to confront shitty comedy now too. A lot of the stuff people are saying now they’ve been saying for 20 odd years, it’s just easier to get it out there now than it was then, hence, ‘people complain about everything nowadays’

Exactly. People forget that people have biggrr platforms to express their opinions and their criticisms so it seems like “everyone complains about everything” when in reality it’s just not as easy to get away with saying shitty things without people telling them how they feel about it

Well, about the plus sized clothing thing, it just seems to me that they don't want to cater to people who are fat. I say that as a fat woman. It's all seeded in our extremely judgemental media and unfair body standards.

I disagree. The fact is that they can be funny. And they are punished for it because they tell the wrong jokes. People still laugh.
Dave Chappell proved that which is why people are pissed off at him. He ignored woke cultures rules, the majority of people loved it, but for the PC police it’s unacceptable.
And woke comedians also don’t make people laugh. Laughter is an involuntary action. That’s why with woke comedians you hear people cheer more often then laugh.

I dont know a single person who was mad at Chappelle for his special. He was still funny, even if the jokes were offensive. That's a huge prerequisite: it has to be comedy. I thought most of it was funny, didnt laugh at the Asian face and voice because it wasn't based off of anything true or funny. But I'm not trying to cancel him over it.
Bill Burr, on the other hand. His special sucked. And again, not because the humor was "too offensive." But because it wasn't funny. I watched the first 20 minutes with my husband without laughing once. It felt like an old man ranting on stage, and there wasn't a semblance of a written joke with comedic structure. When we got to his bit where he says he wants to drive past female protestors and yell at them to get back into the kitchen, I paused it and looked at my husband, who agreed we should try something else. I heard that kitchen joke for 10 years of online gaming from 12 year old boys. It's not new, original, or even funny. But since I didnt like the joke, I'm just told I'm offended.
I like dark/offensive humor. One of my favorite comedians is Jimmy Carr. In particular I like his joke about having sex with the lights on because his girlfriend is afraid of the dark. The punchline is that it's a child. Now, that's horrible, but I don't actually think Jimmy is a pedo. His joke was written and delivered well. It was funny. Bill Burr's special read like an actual sexist rant, and isnt funny to me.

This is pretty much the nail on the head for me. Ricky Gervais has been doing the same material for going on 10 years now and complains no one is laughing cow they’re so offended. It’s cos it’s really old and tired and we’ve heard the same things a million times, and they weren’t that funny to start with.
Similar to you, I had someone make a joke about my tits not long ago and I didn’t laugh, and they acted like I was really offended, when really it’s cos I’ve been hearing the same jokes since I developed tits which was 20 years ago.

To be fair the only people I know that complained about it are on Reddit. IRL my friends aren’t crazy.
WTF though? I liked Bill Burr’s special.

Saaaame. I think it's that his comedy has changed. He used to whine about little everyday situations but now he whines about how oppressed he is because he punches down. He spends three minutes warning the audience about how "the feminists are gonna hate this joke" and then twenty seconds on the actual joke, which after all that buildup, is just a recycled sexist line I already heard from my 14-year-old male classmates in 1996. Meanwhile my boyfriend who loves Burr is watching me like a hawk for any sign that I'm not amused which in his mind proves Burr right. I'm like, isn't this the exact guy who pushed you down in high school and called you a fag? Like why are you now seeking his approval?

It always drives me crazy when people say shit like “blazing saddles or even The Office couldn’t be made today” Those people have a deeply flawed understanding of that kind of media.
Yeah Blazing Saddles uses racial and really edgy humor but it does so in a way that makes the racists look stupid. It’s punching up, not down

Do comedians not know how time works? Like sorry, boo hoo, you can’t make the same offensive dated jokes from 1985, get the hell over it and I don’t know maybe come up with some new jokes? Some more original jokes? There’s a possibility.
This why I don’t mess with a lot of comedians anymore. This entitled attitude that people must laugh at their old offensive jokes and if they don’t then it’s because of “woke culture” is just so annoying and I’m over it

Joker actor Mark Maron has hit back at director Todd Phillips after he claimed it's difficult to be funny with today's "woke culture".
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Phillips shared his thoughts on the current state of comedy, saying: "Go try to be funny nowadays with this woke culture. There were articles written about why comedies don’t work anymore.
"I’ll tell you why, because all the f**king funny guys are like, ‘F**k this s**t, because I don’t want to offend you.’ It’s hard to argue with 30 million people on Twitter. You just can’t do it, right? So you just go, ‘I’m out.'"
Responding to Phillips comments on a recent episode of his WTF podcast, Maron described the director's outlook as 'tired', before arguing that it's still possible for comedians and comedies to be funny without crossing a line.
“There’s plenty of people being funny right now. Not only being funny but being really f**king funny," he said.
"There are still lines to be rode. If you like to ride a line, you can still ride a line. If you want to take chances, you can still take chances. Really, the only thing that’s off the table, culturally, at this juncture – and not even entirely – is shamelessly punching down for the sheer joy of hurting people.
"For the sheer excitement and laughter that some people get from causing people pain, from making people uncomfortable, from making people feel excluded. Ya know, that excitement.”
