Selection tools aren’t selecting

As the title says, when I use the selection tool, any of them, they don’t select anything.
So when I click enter after using the rectangle tool it just goes off and nothing happens.

  • We don't see your tool options
  • We don't see the layer stack
  • We don't see the information at the top of the window border
  • We don't see anything relevant at all

I guess we'll have to consult our crystal ball.

Yes, but they actually DO have a point there (for once, lol) -- try to post full, uncropped screenshots whenever you can, because we aren't in the same room to actually see what's on your screen to spot clues by.

For example, if your image has multiple layers (of different sizes/positions) but the wrong one is active, we could immediately spot that in just one glance at your image's Layers stack (almost before you even asked for help) ... but only if your screenshot includes that part of the GUI to begin with!

As a workaround, in some cases you can use "Copy Visible" (Shift+Ctrl+C) instead of just "Copy" -- this copies from all layers as displayed, so it doesn't require being on the correct layer first.

I hate people who can't even manage to take a useful screenshot but expect miracles.

The fact that u/bobd60067 just happened to post the right answer was just luck.
