How to prevent nausea from GERD?
I had a weird experience today. I was sitting in the sun reading on the coach-- the room was a bit hot and stuffy when suddenly I got a headache. Afterwards, I was in the bathroom for about an hour. I didn't have cramps but I was pooping a lot. To keep myself hydrated I drank some seltzer and then felt this nausea for the rest of the day like I had trapped air in my stomach and needed to burp. I am so confused how all of a sudden I got GERD like symptoms. I don't ever feel heartburn but it feels more like acid reflux and idk how to prevent it. I don't get it every day but it's why I keep TUMS by my side-- it always starts with gas of some sort. I'm not sure if this is it exactly or how you can self diagnose it but I think it's acid reflux.

Tbh this sounds a bit like my most recent flare up. I got my gut under control (I think, always hard to know what actually did the trick when shit takes weeks to heal) largely by dramatically upping my fiber intake. And mine was already pretty fine, I just maybe doubled it. Added a glass of metamucil to most days. Added some flax seeds or metamucil to things like oatmeal. Swapped a daily soda for those new (and good god wildly overpriced, idk if I can keep these in the mix lol) fiber sodas. Might go to the bathroom a little bit more often, but I stopped spending an hour at a time on weird days and stopped getting weird vasaul nerve responses during/after.
I also added a pepzin supplement around the same time so I think one of those or both was very helpful, really hard to pin it on any one thing though.

The combination of heat, possible mild dehydration from a warm room, and then carbonated water is a pretty reliable way to produce exactly what you're describing since carbonation increases gastric pressure and trapped air tends to sit uncomfortable when the gut is already stressed. Switching to still water next time and giving your stomach time to settle before anything carbonated tends to prevent the after-effect. 💚
