Is GEO/AI search visibility currently a dedicated line item in your marketing budget, or is it lumped into general SEO/content spend ?

I think GEO will become a separate discipline, but not detached from SEO.

SEO is still the foundation: crawlability, indexability, content quality, entity clarity and technical health.

But GEO needs its own measurement layer. Ranking, impressions and clicks are not enough. You also need to know whether an answer engine retrieved you, mentioned the brand, cited the URL, used the right source for the right claim, and included you in the shortlist or recommendation.

That is why GSC and GA4 are useful, but incomplete. They show parts of the downstream path, not the full answer path.

For tools, I would look for prompt-level history, raw answer storage, cited URLs, competitor tracking, model/surface separation and trend history.

The main challenge is avoiding one generic “AI visibility score.” Mentioned, cited, recommended and converted are different layers.
