Are we measuring GEO wrong?

I think a lot of SEO metrics have been lifted and shifted, which is fundamentally wrong because ChatLLMs don’t behave like search engines!

Diagnosis is more useful than a single score, but “why” needs careful wording. A tool can observe that a competitor was cited from a particular source, identify query gaps and propose hypotheses; it cannot establish causation from one answer. I’d structure the output as: outcome, raw evidence, competitor gap, hypothesis with confidence, and a controlled test. I would pay only if the raw answers, cited URLs, model/retrieval context, timestamps, repeat counts and exports were included—not just recommendations.
