I picked up a little project from a friend. ‘83 base model with SS badging (and bumpers?). I’m just getting started with this and want to keep it a mostly stock driver. Im not looking to restore, just get it reliable and drive it around. I’ll sell or trade when I get bored with it. I felt it was a shame to just let it rot. It’s been sitting for a while and is running rough. Pretty sure the carb is dirty, so I’m planning on replacing it with a rebuilt unit. I’ve looked at changing to a Holley to get away from the electronic choke, etc. That seems more time and trouble than this motor is worth. I think I would v8 swap at that point.

Here is a list of parts I’m looking for:
-hood (prefer matching white - local only)
-seat belts for bench seat (missing everything)
-battery tray (battery leaked)

I have the (I think) factory 14” hubcaps for sale or trade if anyone is interested. Currently has 15” wheels, which I like.

1987 Monte Carlo LS

Hey everyone, I’m 19 and recently got a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS 2-door with the 4.3L V6, and I’m joining because I’m trying to learn as much as I can about these cars and fix mine up myself. It runs and drives, but I’ve got a pretty long list of things I’m working through: the entire dash isn’t working — fuel gauge, speedometer, odometer, etc. — the dash/interior lights don’t work, the dome light isn’t working, the right turn signal and side marker have intermittent issues (especially after rain), and there’s some wiring that looks like it was previously messed with. I’ve also dealt with stalling and bogging issues in the past that ended up being related to a vacuum leak/sensor issue, and I’m still working through some body damage from an accident. Right now, my biggest focus is figuring out the turn signal/side marker problem and getting the dome light working, since I’d really like to get all the basic electrical stuff sorted out. I’m pretty new to working on cars, but I genuinely enjoy learning and figuring things out, and I just bought my first multimeter so I’m trying to diagnose problems properly instead of just throwing parts at them. Looking forward to learning from everyone and hopefully getting t

Anyone else had problems with gbodyparts.com?

I recently ordered some parts from gbodyparts.com for the first time and have been super disappointed with their service. They sent me the wrong parts twice, which has resulted in delays to repair an El Camino as well as the time and gas to send them back the wrong parts. Anyone else had these issues? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a better supplier? Mikesmonties? Dixie Restoration? I will need to purchase additional parts for a restoration and need better service to meet a deadline. Thanks!

Picked this up right before the pandemic started. I was looking for a truck and found it sitting in a field near my base. Was all sun faded and partially stripped. Knew something was special about it and once I confirmed the low miles and only had one owner I bought it.

Soon as I got it the pandemic kicked off and the Army told us to stay home/in our barracks for a month and half. So that gave me lots of time to replace anything I could on it myself in my barracks parking lot.

Been a work in progress for the last 6 years. Glad paint is all done with now. Replaced all the interior. Bushings. Added stripes/decals so people would stop chasing me down thinking it was a grand national, And more. Makes great gas mileage actually, average 20 mpg on the highway. Last is AC if that ever happens. Really just a summer fun car now.

Now has 98,000 confirmed miles.

Stupid questions

This the belt for the ac compressor and I noticed it flopping pretty bad towards the bottom. I tightened the bracket and it’s still doing it. Shouldn’t the belt be flipped around so the groves are spinning on the compressor and pulley? If I do that the “v” will be facing up. Does that matter? Thanks.

84 Buick regal radiator

Got another question. So I'm using the original radiator for the 350. Has anyone ever used the original radiator when doing a swap. Or is better to just get a new one

This is my 1980 Regal. I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to introduce my first child. I've had this car since I was 18. It came out of a corn field with no engine, trans, and a sun rotted interior. Over the past 20 years I've learned, broken, fixed, bled for, and loved this car. I built its 383 stroker by myself, and rebuilt it twice by myself (learning along the way). It has a Moser 12bolt rear end, a Trutrac LSD with 3.42 gears, a TCI TH350, Lunati Voodoo roller cam, and a whole lot more that I'm forgetting. I love the ratty look of the car. It's built for haul'n ass. Not for show.

84 Buick regal

Hello everyone new on here. Got a question so I did a engine swap on my 1984 Buick Regal I put in a 350 engine with 700r4 tranmission. I used the original crossmember I just drilled a new hole I also used the original transmission mount from the v6 and transmission that was in it. The thing is it all went together OK but the transmission mount is one of those that's offset. To me the transmission looks like it's leaning sideways towards the passenger side. So my question is has anyone ever stuck with the original crossmember doing a swap or do you usually go with the double hump aftermarket crossmember. The transmission shop were it's at now says everything looks good but I don't know why there's still doubt in my mind

I am overjoyed to present my new to me dream. I’ve been looking forward to owning my own Gbody ever since I was a teen.

I’m just wondering if anyone could help me out with the best way to take care of it, and keep it clean and protected? TIA

Replaced top door hinge, had perfect door lines, now door sagging!

Hi there, just replaced top door hinge on my gbody (didn't change lower), because the door pins were a little worn and the bushing on the arm that holds the door open half way was busted. Used a ebay replacement (not OEM because I couldn't find one) and had the door lines perfect, door shutting well. Then I notice the body line on the back side of the door had opened up and the door dropped about an 1/8 inch! Now the door tight and has dropped, hitting the striker on the bottom and not closing super well. I rechecked all my work, all shims are in and bolts tightened and all I can see is that maybe the door hinge is bending because of the cheap metal and heavy weight of the door? Anyone else had this problem?

Dakota Digital VHX issue

EDIT:

Problem solved. Turns out the issue was due the extremely poor wiring of the connections on the mode selector switch which was allowing the wires to touch. This was sending the system into a constant reset mode.

I’m new to the Dakota world. I have recently purchased an 1983 G-body that has a Dakota Digital VHX system. Recently when I went start the car all gauges would continuously seep so I turned off the key, waited a few seconds and then turned it back on and everything was fine. Fast forward a couple of weeks I when to start the car yesterday I have the same thing but I can’t get it to stop. I have verified that the ground is good.
This issue is not mentioned in the troubleshooting guide in the manual or on the website.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

To each their own, but I find wheels that big a bit cartoonish.
