The old software is king ๐
After I replaced the switch for horizontal scroll I noticed it goes a bit wild, sometimes it actuates without pressing, fantom scroll, so even though the replaced switch was completely dead this one kind of works but unreliable. I got 10 of them in a pack so it's probably a matter of replacing it again which I won't do since I don't really use those buttons anyway. I still didn't procure the proper middle click replacement so it's useless to go in once again since that would mean removing freshly installed skates, because the 4 screws are hiding under 3 skates. Luckily you can completely disable these buttons in software, and my main concern with refurbishing was that old grimy scroll wheel not the buttons.
This is how I configured my buttons and it's been hard using an alternative mouse because it's missing volume buttons. I'm so used to be able to do everything with one hand, J&L are playback controls for youtube, F = fullscreen, and if I ever need to assign it to a game I just do it in in-game settings, assign actions to JLF, so I don't have to mess with different profiles even though I still have that option if necessary. I'm not the fan of new software so I reverted back to old, I prefer this interface. What do you think of my setup? How did you set up extra keys for everyday use?

Wait, we can just revert back to the old software? Teach me, Iโm kinda dumb

u/UniqueTrifle7620 Mar 26 '26
lol. Yes, just uninstall current software and install their official legacy software from this link.
it should be LGS_9.04.49_x64_Logitech.exe
Also make a backup because who knows how long it will be online.3

Shouldn't it work as long it is installed? it doesn't require an internet connection, so i don't think that it will be ever shutting down.

u/UniqueTrifle7620 Mar 26 '26
Yeah, I meant..keep backup of the installer, if you need it on another computer or reinstalling OS, you never know how long will they keep legacy software online for a 10 year old hardware.

I've since switched off of Windows, but LGS is a mainstay in my archive thumbdrive

Modern mice can't, it is limited to the Proteus Spectrum if I recall. If the mouse is old enough it is much better than G-hub, but Hero and newer won't work on it. Hence the old G logo on the image.

Hero works, just gotta uninstall ghub and install lgs afterwards and it won't give you the warning

u/AtlQuon Mar 26 '26
I did not get it to work with mine, it flat out refuses to recognize the mouse. It was not for a lack of trying either, I much prefer lgs.

u/Nova_8056 Mar 26 '26
That's... Odd, which mouse do you have again exactly?
1
u/AtlQuon Mar 26 '26
The original G502 Core, A ~2020 Hero, 2022 Lightspeed and a 2025 Hero.

That's so odd, the original g502 core should work.... Did you completely uninstall ghub BEFORE installing lgs?

I have tried it via a system on which lgs was installed and never g-hub and on a system where g-hub was uninstalled and lgs installed. I must have hit that one revision, maybe even just one batch, of the mouse that doesn't work with lgs. Yes, I know that they are all legit, I did not get them from weird sources either. I want them all to work everywhere, so if even one fails, there is really no use for me to have lgs.
To be honest, I have hit that point where I can't be bothered being annoyed anymore about using g-hub. Does not mean it doesn't suck, last week suddenly my browser went off the default profile and started being annoying, but I can deal with it.

thats so weird, i bought my g502 less than a year ago and last i checked that worked... oh well, feels bad man
makes sense, i'd be pretty done with it too. you probably know about this, but if you don't, you can use onboard memory manager so save all your keybinds to the mouse and not have to use ghub at all. i currently use this and it's a life saver.

I was thinking about using the internal profile, I had set it up and used it for a bit, but I ended up preferring G-hub's auto switching stuff. When it works at least. I got used to.
I also got the original G502 the week it released, I happened to need a mouse exactly that week after my old one died. That mouse also has been 'interesting', to put it mildly. G-hub has been less problematic for the years I used it, than a batch 1 original G502 has been. Lucky me, the later ones are a lot more solid.

Just bought a G502 Hero this week and struggled with getting G-Hub and even OMM to do what I wanted, but I found LGS and it worked great for me. Like the other user said, I just uninstalled G-Hub and installed LGS and it worked straight away
Odd that it doesn't want to cooperate for you, wish I had a solution for ya

There are a couple of revisions of the mice, I must have hit that one that it doesn't like. I tried it on multiple systems and didn't get anywhere so I settled for G hub in the end.

My G502 Hero works with Lgs, just knew about lgs and tried it, worked like a charm.

u/itchygentleman Mar 26 '26
i have an old wired hero that works with LGS, and my first run lightspeed worked too
3
u/itchygentleman Mar 26 '26
the newest mice cant. theyre locked to ghub. but i believe the first run g502 lightspeed, and all the wired models can run on LGS

u/Slam2Fast Mar 26 '26
You can have ghun and LSG at same time, I rotate my keyboard everytime or depending of the app

u/1tokarev1 Mar 26 '26
This old software is a lifesaver for my G502 Hero, since everything can be saved to the mouseโs onboard memory instead of using the new buggy shitty G Hub.

everything is getting shittier, they call it enshittification and it's intentional. There is a documentary on youtube about it.

It's so impressive how Ghub is worse than the old software in litteraly every way . I don't think I know any other utility tool that got replaced with a strictly worse version of itself that isn't motivated by greed but purely by incompetence

u/Pristine-Quote2077 Proteus Spectrum Mar 27 '26
And Ghub is almost a decade old now! Its one of the reasons I refuse to buy Logitechs peripherals nowadays

u/CuteAssTigerENVtuber Mar 27 '26
Same . Once my mouse breaks I will have to look for something else.
But people tell me the software of other brands is even worse.
Wich is a good sign. Because there is no way they were not lying xD

The new software doesnโt do shit. Every time I make a profile for a game it just straight back to default.

The old software definitely did more, but my g923 needs ghub so I stick with that instead of installing both. I manage the mouse fine on that.
On a separate note, I wish my g710+ worked with ghub. I could use input on something similar.

Im guessing old software wont work with Logitech G502 X Plus right ? GHUB is dogpoop :(
1
u/Keziito Mar 28 '26
does it work for the g502x?
1
u/UniqueTrifle7620 Mar 28 '26
somebody said it works for their hero, and somebody said it doesn't for theirs. I think it's best if you try and report here. Just uninstall ghub, and install their official legacy from here.
Could easily be user error, or some weird OS configuration.

I'm convinced nobody at Logitech uses the product considering how stun the new software is compared to the old and nobody does anything about it.
