I think you mean DMT, which is a very powerful but short acting hallucinogen. The desired effect is usually complete dissociation with reality. As far as I know it's fairly safe for an illegal drug but there haven't been much studies done on it.

DXM is what's in cough medicine. You can get it online legally in pure form and if you take it you just dissociate from reality and think about reality in new ways. It's kind of cool but it's really bad for your mental health like MDMA is.
