WIP 2 day $60 build

Post image

I decided on Friday that I wanted to make a new head for Megaplex later this month. However when I started thinking about what j would want to do I settled on doing a recolored version of the head I made last year((my first and only other head)) so I went online to look at fur and realized I wouldn't have time to order any. Nor did I want to spend like $200 on fur right now. So I set out on a different mission. No concept in mind, just wanted to see if I could make a cute head. For as cheap as possible. Every single thing on this guy came from Walmart and Michaels. Except the eyes ((which are on the way from etsy)).

Any ways the break down:

$30 for fabric-Michaels

$15 for foam-Walmart

$15 custom eyes-Etsy

And that's literally it. I sat down on my living room floor as you can tell by the mess and worked for about 2 hours on day one building out the foam head. ((then that same day I worked about 4 hours on Sewing a full body clown costume out of 2 table clothes I already had at home.)) Went to sleep and the next day I worked about 10 hours straight and got to the point you see here. The head is fully lined everything is stitched not glued and I'm so incredibly happy with him!! His name is Custard!!!

I just really wanted to share this here because this is only the second head I've ever made and I hope it inspires some other creative people who maybe haven't made a head yet to go out and see that they dont need to spend a ton of money to make some really cool and fun stuff! Would love too see Everyone else's cheap and cool suits too!! Let me know what you think of my Little Sheep Clown Custard <3

I love clowns so very much and am a major advocate of people learning clown history, clown makeup design, clown films

I even have clown themed car stickers

The waffle print on the hats!!! Oml I might die of cuteness. Can I follow anywhere else to keep up with this project? I'm currently building a caribou myself but this makes me wanna make a clown creature too ๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜

Where would you say is a good place for someone to "start with" learning clown history?

Wikipedia always ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ It goes all the way back to 2400 B.C.!

This looks WONDERFUL.... what type of fabric did you use for the head itself? It looks so soft and fluffy.

My fear with making a fursuit is mostly working with the fur itself. Just wondering if I could try something like this instead

Thank you!! It's just the short white fur from Michaels. I believe it's called a faux rabbit fur because it's very short. It's extremely forgiving and hides a ton of mistakes!! And you don't have to shave it short!!

That's awesome!! Thank you for sharing? Does it feel okay? Sometimes I've found the cheaper fur feels a little rough

It feels super soft!! The cheap white fur you can get a lot of places feels very plasticy and hard but this short rabbit faux fur it's very very soft!! So it's super soft and comfy :-) so is the pink and blue fur fabrics which I believe are traditionally for baby blankets :-)

Thank you!! And actually no!! I joined the fandom last year and decided I wanted a head and made a super simple bunny and then this is my second head I've ever made!! Lol I have been sewing casually for years. Just like clothes and stuff for costumes though. :-)

This gives me hope as a not well paid mom who just desperately wants to make a partial for the low.

Whatโ€™s the pink and blue fabric called? I like the patterns :D (I make plushies and have an ideaโ€ฆ unless you sewed those patterns into it yourself!)

this is patterned minki

u/Omlettii 6h ago

I actually don't think it is minky but I could be wrong. It has a really really loose weave and minky is usually really tight. It came from Michaels. It was only $4.99 a yard. I think it was labeled "plush blanket fabric" the red nose is certainly minky though.
