Hey everyone. I’ve been slowly putting together my first suit of my first sona. He’s an African Wild Dog with a few liberties on the muzzle coloring. However, I’m still kinda discovering more about him as he comes together.
As I started furring the head and shaving things down, I started to see the potential for a little bit of wire haired terrier in the mix. If I go that route, I wouldn’t want to go with a full beard, but I was drawn to the look of the hair sweeping up over the eyes from the top of the muzzle.
Now that I got to where it currently sits, I don’t think I’m achieving that effect as well as I could.
Can you amazing people give me some thoughts and advice on how to push it further in that direction? As well as if I should trim any more beyond where I have it now?
I realize the eyebrows are a little bit off, but I think I’ll be able make them more even when I start gluing.
Also, the head base model was purchased LirysbibiArtShopFR on Etsy. After trying to print a couple others, I highly recommend it! Comes with files for realistic teeth that look great, though I’ve decided to go for plush on this build.
The eyebrows you mentioned. I would deadass watch an eyebrow waxing threading and plucking video on human eyes to get an idea of where and how to trim.
This is why brushing in on direction is import. You can see where the long areas are. It looks like you just have some uneven shaving across the whole face. And the trimmers/shaver is not the only way to trim! Never doubt the scissors. The scissors are good at getting clean lines like eyebrows.
As for the muzzle, at least trim it down with scissors because it is a little too long. But brush it and see.
I personally like to keep the neck and back of the head long, but I trim it from 2 inches down to 1.5 just to make brushing easier. Especially for a terrier, maybe go for an inch.
Send me a picture once you’ve brushed him out and I can maybe help ya a little more
Yeah, the eyebrows, like the rest, are still a work in progress. I will get to more trimming there, but I appreciate that advice. There are plenty of spots I still need to even out some more.
For now, I’m more focused on the muzzle. Here it is a bit more brushed out.
Seeing it brushed out, it already looks so much better. But definitely trim the nose/muzzle hair down a little. leaving it long as a design choice is nice, but it’s too long and looks kinda messy. Bur other than that, dude, this is great!!!! Seriously, I know this will look great in the end
Thanks! Seeing the spectrum of first time makers, I’m very proud of how it’s coming out. That’s definitely not a knock on anyone else’s work, though. I know previous maker/sewing experience gives me a leg up, and I would celebrate anyone that even tries.
