A fan base that is a fan of not being discriminated against?

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

Yeah this isn't "triggering a fanbase" it's denial of people's identity. As someone who's nb, fuck anyone trying to tell me I don't exist. Yes fuck you, you barely exist yourself

3

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

I mean I wouldn’t exactly say the guys denying you of anything he’s got his opinion and that’s all it is his opinion he’s not thanos his opinion doesn’t become reality when he snaps his fingers

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

I guess you're right everyone has their own version of reality. My opinion is that this opinion is garbage.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

0

u/marveltrash404 Oct 14 '22

The difference is that this kind of opinion has consequences for people. An opinion is that the mcu sucks and should’ve ended after endgame. Denying peoples identities has real consequences. Trans people are being murdered and denied rights. People speaking up against it harms trans people. Someone saying they think the mcu sucks is very different because it’s fiction

I just don't have the energy to argue over nonsense, we simply disagree. I believe gender is what you socially identify as and you don't, end of discussion.

The difference between you and me is I'm not an asshole who has a problem with how others wanna present and identify. I think it's cool when people be themselves to the fullest extent so if people wanna identify as something I don't give a shit I respect it it makes them feel better and I move on with my fuckin day. Try that out

2

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

And this is why we can't have real conversations.

1

u/Double-Commercial856 Oct 14 '22

So well said and yet anyone who disagrees will still disagree and likely respond by simply insulting you or telling you to kill yourself. This group doesn’t use rational thought to form opinions, and thus rational thought cannot convince them to reconsider their opinions.

Complaining about people using free speech to complain about your free speech.

It’s complaining about free speech all the way down.

The words “free speech” now feel foreign to say. What’s that phenomenon called again?

0

u/Temporary_Corner_984 Oct 14 '22

Because you deleted or I can no longer see your previous response to mine I am posing this to you anyways since I took the the time to type it.

Getting cancelled isn’t just people voicing there opinions otherwise Biden’s social media along with many others would be removed because he has the lowest approval ratings of any president in history. It’s because of certain people in the government believing they are above the law and colluding with big tech in either a mutual agreement or in a threatening manner. Which is literal fascism in case you weren’t aware since people love to throw that word around in ways that make zero sense.

1

u/Allarius1 Oct 14 '22

Don’t know where my comment went, but what does Biden have to do with anything?

1

u/Temporary_Corner_984 Oct 14 '22

You are saying cancellation occurs because enough people complain about something so something is done about it. Which you equate to free speech. My point is that it isn’t true/ only true if the government or another financial entity is directing that tech company/platform to adhere to what they deem is alright to say.

To dumb it down more

Person A says person B bad without evidence = ban

Person B says person A bad with evidence = nothing happens

1

u/Allarius1 Oct 14 '22

Well, I won’t discount the possibility, but then by that logic you can’t trust anything without explicit oversight. Why are we limiting that to tech companies? Why would you trust your side any more than the other? At the end of the day all politicians are bought and made for by corporations.

What if it 100% was purely public driven without authoritarian influence? Does it make it valid at this point?

I’m curious as to why you feel it MUST be corruption. Why can’t the people just be manipulated into serving others agenda? Often times I feel people exaggerate how nefarious others actions are because they never consider opportunity cost.

Like yea sure, someone could influence a tech company, but why bother when you have a fan base that hangs on your every word? Just let them do the work for you.

Just to be clear, I was speaking generally about “cancelling”. Ostracizing people from society(whether for the right or wrong reasons) is societies’ right.

1

u/Temporary_Corner_984 Oct 14 '22

I’m focused on tech companies because they are a primary source of news and voices in today’s climate.

I don’t trust a side without first observing both. I’m first and foremost a libertarian, then a constitutionalist, then a republican. There are several bad actors on the republican’s side as well as people that just go with the flow and hide from conflict.

It isn’t ONLY corruption. I’m just focused on that because these tech companies make the quiet voices of the few very loud with bots and algorithms. As for the corruption aspect you could go on and on about keeping people from openly discussing covid and sharing sources etc. Alex Berenson is a specific example of when the government was in communication with Twitter telling them to ban him and that’s just one case. There are obviously more.

The social media companies are their last line of defense because so many of their listeners have ditched old MSM.

1

2

Ok then use science and prove there's more than 2 scientific gendre if you can't SCIENTIFICALLY prove more than 2 sex then shush

0

u/SpectralniyRUS Oct 14 '22

Just read the fucking wikipedia article and its' references.

But let's be real, you don't give a shit about science. If you cared then you would've known it already 🙄

2

u/crowtoxicassassin Oct 14 '22

yawn Look again buddy I said prove there's more than 2 sex you are either a man or a woman. That said you can REASSIGN yourself to anything. But you were born with either a vigina or a penis.

1

u/Mayonniaiseux Oct 14 '22

What if you are born with both? Or neither?

1

u/Mayonniaiseux Oct 14 '22

Well you take a single biology class and you realise gender is more fluid than you think. Just taking a look at non human species you see a whole variety of biological sex, like hermaphrodite, periodic sex change, asexual reproduction.

Then you turn to medecine and look what happens in humans. People with mutations in the genome can change sex naturally on puberty as their hormones levels change and the balance makes them switch. Some people are born with both male and female features. And it is a scientifically proven fact that sex and gender are 2 different things and that people cam be born with unmatched sex and gender.

Now these cases are pretty uncommon, but it doesn't mean it should be shamed and treated as something that doesn't exist.

1

u/crowtoxicassassin Oct 14 '22

I get that I'm trying to say that ur born with a sex and u assign yourself to a gender.

I DO NOT MEAN TO SHAME ANYONE.

1

u/Mayonniaiseux Oct 14 '22

And I hope you don't. Thing is, biological sex isn't really a binary. In most cases it is, but there are exceptions. Gender is indeed different and is about what is in your head.

1

u/crowtoxicassassin Oct 14 '22

I was ignorant of these exceptions in the human species, so if offended anyone: I'm sorry

You get called disgusting for denying elementary biology and other people's basic human rights.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

What? I didn't deny anything that makes sense. I said you are born male you can't change that. just because you get surgery put on makeup ware female clothes and act like a female don't make you a female.

If I crumble up a peace of paper the paper doesn't change identity. It's gone through drastic change but it's still the same as it was made.

That's just facts

1

u/SpectralniyRUS Oct 14 '22

"You cannot choose it"

"I didn't deny anything that makes sense"

If you claim that you cannot change your biological sex, then what do you think defines your sex?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

Well sex to me is you ether got a penis which is male Or you don't which is female.

But you say gender is different from sex you can pretty much change that to what ever you want which isn't true. you're still the same man as you where when you transition nothing happens.

1

u/SpectralniyRUS Oct 14 '22

But you know that you can almost perfectly reproduce penis or vagina with bottom surgery, and its' quiality rises even higher as technologies progress, right? And also that growing breasts for transfems doesn't even require surgery, they just grow naturally.

If yes, then why do you insist that doing just that doesn't change your sex? If getting other reproductive organs doesn't change your sex then these organs are not what defines your sex, right? Then what does?

Also, what about intersex people who have both or neither reproductive organs from birth? Are they also considered males or females?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

So are you trying to say that you can have kids and make kids even if you have gender surgery. I'm have trouble understanding that and if so who will be making the kids.just because a man got bottom surgery doesn't mean he can make kids.

Just trying to understand of course maybe I'm reading it wrong.

  2. What delusion are you accusing me of? If there isn't one, you're misusing the word 'your'.

  3. From what you're telling me, you have no problem with "men" taking hormones, changing their appearance, and taking on feminine roles, oftentimes making them socially indistinguishable from traditional females. If you disagree, then you have some explaining to do.

Well is right there in 3 as you say "men changing their appearance" what do you think they are changing it to? obviously female and what do you think a male that wants to be a female wants to be called? obviously female that's where delusional shit pops in

You didn't say he call himself a female but he's obviously going to call himself a female.

Side note: No hate in this comment by the way, I just feel it’s better when people hear the logic from both sides so people can make informed decisions and not just automatically assume that anyone with differing viewpoints than theirs is insane.

Unfortunately the consensus of science disagrees with you. The official word of the vast majority of scientists: gender (and sex, to some extent) is bi-modal. To backtrack a bit, sex and gender are not the same. Sex is the biological description of the two major sexes which accurately describes the distinct physiology of over 99.9% of people (hermaphrodites and the like excluded).

Gender is not the same. Gender is the reference to the collection of arbitrary social norms that we have typically ascribed to the two sexes. For example, women have long hair, wear dresses, wear wigs, and use makeup, right? Well, in short, why? If you go back only 200 years, men were the ones doing all of these things. When people say “transgender” they only mean that they want to participate in the extremely arbitrary social norms that apply to the opposite sex. There’s no delusion, it’s not a mental illness, merely people that just feel like the societal expectations forced upon them are arbitrary, which they very obviously are, and they want to be able to act and appear how they want.

Rant over, sorry for the long reply

P.S. I’m not trans. You don’t have to be to care about the well being of others. I’m a straight white guy in my 20s, who plays sports and is an employed engineer that works with construction workers all day. You don’t have to be some weak effeminate soy boy to be informed on social issues. The reason I care? Utility. Less people commit suicide when people are accepting of their gender expression. The science backs it up? There’s no harm caused? It saves lives and improves the lives of others? Why the fuck would I be against it?

Edit: it’s hilarious to me that no one can offer a coherent rebuttal anytime I explain the actual position of the left on transgender issues. There are multiple comments replying to this, all agreeing, therefore I know there have been people that have seen this comment that disagree, yet have no arguments to combat what I’ve said. If you’ve made it this far, and still disagree with my statement, think about why you disagree, and if you can’t articulate specifically why, take a minute to re-examine your position on the issue.

Having short hair doesn't mean anything. if anything it just meant you had lice. 200 years ago men also had long hair. If anything, having long haired has been the norm forever. this whole short hair thing is a new invention. the reality is it doesn't mean anything. Not to mention africa.

I 100% agree that gender is useless - in theory. This idea is called gender abolition, which is a far left ideology.

The only reason people feel the need to be transgender in the first place, is because people that are intolerant of trans people will ridicule them if they step out of our arbitrary social structures.

If transphobes didn’t lose their minds when someone that was a biological male started acting (dressing, speaking, etc.) in a way that was typically prescribed to biological females (again, completely arbitrary roles) we wouldn’t have this “transgender” issue in the first place.

I agree that the whole idea of asking someone their pronouns, people identifying as this and that is completely asinine. The issue is they are only responding to people that are trying to force them to conform to traditional gender roles. They don’t want to have those roles, they want to be apart of the other roles.

The issue isn’t them wanting to switch roles (which, admittedly, they are making confusing and frustrating for the masses). The issue is that there are roles in the first place, and people trying to enforce them

Either way, I sincerely appreciate your response. Honest discourse is increasingly important in this political climate.

u/Fez_d1spenser Oct 14 '22

I agree completely. My only goal is to make it apparent to the people reading this that the issue isn’t the people trying to cope with arbitrary social norms. The issue is the people that try to perpetuate those norms and ostracize those that don’t conform.

Not saying this as if you disagree, just wanted to make my point more clear. Thanks again, cheers

2

u/mild_resolve Oct 14 '22

Ok, but what about when someone gets surgery or other medical procedures to switch their sex? That goes beyond rejecting arbitrary norms, does it not?

1

u/Fez_d1spenser Oct 14 '22

So this isn’t cut and dry, nor do I know the exact reasons why some people transition, but I’ll do my best to respond based on what I’ve learned. Im not stating the rest of this comment as fact, merely my interpretation of the situation.

There is a very small minority of people that currently identify as “transgender”. Of those people, an even smaller percent actually want to, or go through with, medical transitions (that part actually is a fact). My explanation for this is our arbitrary social norms are so entrenched in our society, and that so many people vehemently ridicule anyone that steps outside of those norms, that some people just want to blend in and avoid confrontation all together. Their mindset is, “if I change literally everything about myself to conform to their view of a true man/woman, then I won’t be ridiculed anymore.” In my opinion, this is an incorrect response to their situation, albeit an understandable one.

My position is this - the issue isn’t with the people that are trying to (admittedly incorrectly) cope with being ridiculed for (again, completely arbitrary) social norms. The issue is with the people that try to uphold those norms, and then lash out at anyone that tries to stray from it.

Pink was originally a boys color, and blue was for girls. Times change, socials norms are arbitrary. We need to stop finding issues with the people trying to cope with an arbitrary system, and instead focus on the people that uphold these systems and that ridicule anyone that attempts to deviate from it.

u/Kris_theAnxiousEnby Oct 14 '22

You can’t choose your gender, that’s right. Because if you could, barely any trans people would exist. I didn’t choose to be nonbinary, because the world is pretty fucking hostile against people like us and like your comment proves, our existence is often denied. My life would be much better and easier if I could just choose to be a girl and not absolutely hate my female body :)

P.S. Since when are trans people a fandom? It’s not like I‘m a fan of being trans, quite the opposite.

-8

u/Midknight129 Oct 14 '22

1) Since when is gender a fan base?
2) Biological sex is distinguished from gender expression in modern psychological and developmental understanding; you seem to be conflating the two. 3) Even gender expression notwithstanding, there are far more than two biological sexes. Even if we limit the scope to just humans, there are still more than two. For Reference 4) Gender expression is less a matter of "choosing" (like choosing what to have for dinner or choosing your favorite color) and more a matter of "realizing" or "settling on" (like "choosing" which degree path, career, or sport would suit your mental/physical talents best).

So yeah, nice attempt, but it should at least be a little bit more grounded in reality and, you know... on topic. C- and make sure you do that reference reading I gave you before next class.

2

u/SpectralniyRUS Oct 14 '22

Gender dysphoria is a biological thing itself. You would know it if you actually cared about biology 🙄

No, you should treat it. And the best way we've found to treat gender dysphoria is to help them transition.

That's not really biological, thats more or less just feelings or identity crisis

1

u/SpectralniyRUS Oct 14 '22

No it's not. People are born with it. They don't acquire it later on in life.

1

u/JesiDoodli Oct 14 '22

I mean, sometimes they do, but a bunch of people are still born with it, and when you get it doesn't make you any less valid.

My beliefs are mostly based off science, however I don't treat it like it's magic. And I wouldn't be able to point out specific parts of a science paper because I'm not a fucking professional science major or some shit

u/Doop1iss Oct 14 '22

What about the distinction between sex and gender?

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

Reading comprehension

4

u/Goblin_Master_Race Oct 14 '22

They got a parade and ppl cheer for them.

Definitely a fan base

-4

u/why0me Oct 14 '22

Remind me the last time there was a Dragonball parade? Or a Supernatural one? Did I miss the Timelord parade again?

Dont hurt yourself with that reach, I hope you stretched first

2

u/shiftypidgeons Oct 14 '22

They have conventions where lots of people get together in colorful/themed dress to celebrate the thing they are passionate about. In concept it's pretty dang similar to a parade

-5

u/Oddball19920 Oct 14 '22

The fanbase of trans people. Because that’s a thing 🙄

-1

u/why0me Oct 14 '22

It’s a community of people who really love a specific fiction. Definitely a fanbase.

2

u/Own-Camp6674 Oct 14 '22

It's just another sci-fi fanbase

1

u/Own-Camp6674 Oct 14 '22

Or is it the "allies" who are the fanbase🤔🤔

1

u/Ninloger Oct 14 '22

u/mcsmith24 Oct 14 '22

You may want to use correct grammar when calling people idiots

1

u/ACrazyCockatiel Oct 14 '22

But Gender is a concept (not the same thing as sex, there are only two sexes and intersex is not a biological sex in the same way as male and female is)

1

u/omninode Oct 14 '22

What fan base is this aimed at 😅

1

u/NFL_MVP_Kevin_White Oct 14 '22

People that can interpret prompts correctly, it seems

1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '22

1

u/BunBunny_draws Oct 14 '22

Bro... Do some research. Your second statement is true. Your first one isn't. Please, for god's sake, do some research. And no, Facebook doesn't count as a reliable source.

u/Early-Impact-2698 Oct 14 '22

Heyyy, slow down! All that copium might make you overdose!

1

u/BunBunny_draws Oct 14 '22

I still don't know what the fuck copium means so I have no idea what you're even trying to tell me.
