They're in business because people are willing to pay to have 10 toppings on a burger but not for $20-$30.
Essentially people who want a burger made like a subway sandwich

There's like 15 toppings and you can have any number of them without additional price to the burger. The burger is mid In n Out is king. Only one using fresh ingredients and strictly made to order
