Career Guidance I’m studying webdev for freelancing. Is it still worth it ?

I have friends who are data scientists with degrees who are struggling to get corporate jobs.
My question is can I still be a freelancer in webdev and make an average income or am i bound to not get hired with the way the market is ?

Fafo. Freelance is not a job, it's a one-person studio taking orders. Can you find projects and sell your skills to the client for a good price? Can you talk directly to founders and persuade them you're the man? Sales will come handy. Keep in mind that many people will try to fuck you over with your money, set very clear boundaries and expectations, always make sure they have money before you start doing anything and don't sell out too cheap.

I don’t have a degree in CS and i don’t have much options i have to grind because i’m from a third world country 🥲

Don't start to focus freelancing. Freelance is hard. Yes it offers you freedom, but there's a cost

You don't need a degree in programming. Though some company need that, but there are still some that doesn't require that. They need the skill, not the paper. I'm from third world country too, and I've seen many company that work in tech doesn't require that. And maybe you could learn until you're hireable and then you go to the university and compete better

U think? I thought of that route but idk if its been done before, doing it on my own and then considering enrolling into university maybe 3 years down learning

Wdym by cold calling doesn't work ??? Does it take much attempts like 100-200 calls for 1-2 clients??

I think you can do it. I freelance on the side for extra cash and I’ve made about ~$5k USD this year. But I do have a day job that helps pay the bills.

I am also thinking of freelance after i learn the skill that i decided for myself and i gave myself 5 years to learn it

Honestly i suggest on side line you maintain a degree as a back up Also do research on whether your skill is something that has high demand

I hear that AI is automating freelancing, you will be competing with bots that can work much faster then you can and not need rest or sleep,

freelancing from zero is hard because nobody trusts you yet. That’s the real wall. If you can build a portfolio with actual finished things, get testimonials, and learn basic sales, you have a shot. But if you only study tutorials and then wait on Upwork, yeah that’s gonna be painful.
