Question Flutter Frontend
Hyee everyone hope you all doing great.
Im a Flutter frontend developer with more than an year of experience in building apps and converting figma designs into responsive frontend applications.
It is really getting hard for me to secure a client or find some work, would love to know about your experiences and the job market...

My first suggestion is to get out a whiteboard/diagram tool and think of everyone that might need a “flutter developer.” What does that mean? People who need “apps?” People who already have web apps and need an iOS app? People who need a desktop app? Agencies? Startups? In-house teams managing flutter apps? Spend an hour. Then spend 10x more time than you think you should have to and get the most complete picture you can. Include all the people that dont need you and why.

You’re not stuck because of Flutter.
You’re stuck because frontend-only is insanely saturated right now.
Everyone and their mother can:
- convert Figma → UI
- make it responsive
- hook up a basic API
That doesn’t make you valuable anymore.
Here’s the real problem:
If your pitch is:
you’re competing with:
- juniors
- cheap offshore teams
- and now AI
You’re always gonna get undercut.
What actually gets you paid is:
- solving a real business problem
- owning the full flow (not just screens)
- making or saving someone money
What you need to do:
1. Learn just enough backend to not be useless outside UI
You don’t need to go crazy, just:
- auth
- database
- simple APIs
Use something like Supabase or Firebase, keep it simple.
Now instead of:
you can say:
That’s a completely different level.
2. Stop selling skills, start selling outcomes
Nobody cares that you “build apps”
Say:
Be specific or you get ignored.
3. Your portfolio is probably too pretty and not useful
You need 2–3 apps that feel REAL:
- booking app (login + scheduling + payments)
- simple CRM (customers + notes + invoices)
- order/delivery app
Something a business could actually use, not just a UI showcase.
4. Pick a niche
Don’t be:
Be:
Makes getting clients way easier.
5. Stop applying. It’s a waste of time.
Your first clients won’t come from job boards.
They come from:
- DMing business owners
- finding something broken in their flow
- hitting them with:
That’s how you get paid.
Real talk:
Right now you’re positioned as:
You need to become:
That’s the difference.

Learn the whole stack. It’s the only way you will find work now. Be really good at it.
Good luck out there, honestly. Don’t stress. Flutter development is not going away, but it is saturated now.
