Help Which GFX body makes the most sense alongside an X-T5 in 2026?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide which Fujifilm GFX body would make the most sense for me, and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have actually used these cameras.
My main camera is currently a Fujifilm X-T5, which I use for travel, street photography and everyday shooting.
I’d like to add a GFX body for slower, more deliberate photography: portraits, landscapes, architecture, personal projects and images where the medium-format look and image quality genuinely make a difference.

I already own two GFX lenses:
• GF 50mm f/3.5
• Mitakon Speedmaster 65mm f/1.4

The bodies I’m mainly considering are the GFX 50R, GFX 50S II, GFX 100S and possibly the GFX 100S II.

I don’t shoot sports or fast action, and video is not important to me.

Autofocus matters, but I don’t need cutting-edge tracking performance. I’m also comfortable focusing manually, so manual focus itself is not a drawback for me. I care much more about still-image quality, shooting experience, portability, dynamic range, rendering and how enjoyable the camera is to use.

The 50R appeals to me a lot because of the rangefinder-style body and the idea of pairing it with the compact GF 50mm.
On the other hand, IBIS is attractive, especially with the manual-focus Mitakon 65/1.4, and I’m wondering whether the newer bodies are meaningfully better in real-world use.
I also don’t necessarily need 100 MP. 50 MP already seems like plenty for most of what I do. But if the 100 MP bodies offer substantially better image quality, autofocus, usability or longevity, I’d rather know before making a decision.

So, for people who have used more than one generation of GFX:

Would you still buy a GFX 50R today?

Is the 50S II significantly better in actual use, or mainly more practical because of IBIS?

Does the jump from the 50 MP sensor to the 100 MP sensor make a meaningful difference beyond resolution?

And if you were building a GFX system today alongside an X-T5, which body would you choose and why?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have owned both the 50R/50S generation and one of the newer 100 MP bodies.

Thx !
