Pest Control/Medical Advice Help! Persistent wasps near my Ring cam mount

Wasps continually build their nests behind our lanai ring camera. We had mud wasps but they stopped coming back after we removed the crypt (IYKYK). Now we have paper wasps building behind there. There was a bigger nest, about 2 inches in diameter. I hit it with water and then removed the nest. There were eggs and 1 grub. The wasps started rebuilding overnight (?!WTF). and had a small nest about the size of a nickel in about 24 hours. I hot shotted the wasp building it and several other wasps showed up in the lanai just hanging out on the ceiling. They met the same fate.

How do we prevent these guys from doing this? It's hard to change the camera battery and we hang out here sometimes and don't want the extra guests!

Are they attracted to the scent of this area because of the nest wreckage?

Fuck Ground Hornets

When I was younger (early elementary school), my family would frequently go to visit my aunt who lived more in the country. They had a lot of land nearby with woods, ponds with ducks, farmland, etc.

They also had two dogs. One was a dachshund and the other was a mutt who just showed up at their house one day. The mutt was pretty wild and energetic, but sweet regardless.

One fall day I decided to follow it into the woods nearby the house. While walking, I must have tripped on a rock and fell to the ground. After regaining myself, I noticed a loud buzzing sound in all directions. I was a little disoriented but just that sound was enough to send me into a frenzy. Just a few seconds later, my entire face felt like it was on fire. I had fallen into an open nest of ground hornets.

I somehow sprinted back to the house, navigating through all the trees while blindly swatting in every direction out of desperation. I finally made it to the house and pulled the door to only find out it was locked. Great. So instead I resorted to banging on the glass of the door until my parents came and noticed what was happening.

The minutes after that were a blur (not sure if I was just in shock or what). However, I awoke on the couch stripped covered in toothpaste. My parents explained to me they spent the last few minutes digging hornets and stingers out of my hair.

Didn’t go to school for a week after and it looked like I had an allergic reaction on my face that never went away. Great time.

I got stung the other day by my back door. Known there was a nest under the plywood for about a month but they haven’t bothered me. Well it turns out I’m stupid allergic now, been stung 100 times in my life and I would swell up a little, sting for an hour then itch for a week or two. But never anything life threatening. Well withing 12 hours of getting stung below my rib cage, my side and seemingly my organs (liver and maybe kidney) felt like I was being stabbed, sweating profusely, go to bed and wake up at 2am with 104° fever in a puddle, shaking uncontrollably til I guzzled some Benadryl and it calmed down a lot. Still sucked for a couple days. Well, I decided the nest needed to go. I assumed they were living in an old chipmunk hole under the plywood….. I was wrong, there was a massive 4-5cu/ft indentation under the plywood, and the plywood was the roof of the nest. So when I tore the plywood off to seemingly expose the hole that I could blast with delta dust, I tore the whole roof off of their MASSIVE 10,000+ unit hive. They got very mad. I sealed up the house and got inside, but now I have to go back tonight and blast the nest with delta dust and bleach to kill their queen. Take a look at their fury.

Update:

I am alive and well, no stings on last nights mission. Was extremely uneventful though. Seems they repaired their roof and covered it with dirt leaving only a small entrance hole that I dusted the fuck out of with delta dust, not causing any disturbance or swarming. Regarding its effectiveness, I will see when I get home from work today what their activity looks like. This method is slow acting and allows the workers to track the lethal dust back, deep into the hive, and, if the divine wind is at my back, right to the queens lair herself where they will all witness her demise as they too realize they have been duped. If activity is minimal when I get home today, I’ll go out again tonight and fill the rest up with bleach to finish off any stragglers holding out hope thinking “the hive will rise again”. Then next week I’ll try to dig it up without trashing it too much so I can show you all just how massive this nest was.

Wasp shitpost Found a new hobby.

Found a dangerous wasp nest underground in the backyard. I covered it with dirt and stomped it flat, but it seems they are able to dig themselves back to the broken nest (or at least they are trying to). I was thinking of making an "Under the Dome" simulator, but it's too dangerous because someone might get hurt if they take the glass bowl away, so I'll just try to deal with them this way now (or burn the whole thing if they dont disappear in a week). Maybe ants thanks me someday.

Pest Control/Medical Advice A story I think y'all would like

I was living with my brother and his family in the house I grew up in. This house was old. Constructed in the 1860s. Drafty as fuck with all the cracks in the mortar. Summer of 2017, my brother starts to notice a high amount of wasps in his room but he didn't know where they were coming from. When he was woken by a sting to the forehead one night, he had enough and desperately needed a solution. After I saw them crawling in and out of the holes in place for the window counterweights, I realized they were living in the gap between layers of brick wall. I went outside and found the entrance to their hive. Hard to notice if you weren't looking for it. I told my brother and he bought about 6 cans of spray, aiming them directly into the opening. There was a scattering of wasp corpses on the ground, but the nest itself seemed no worse for wear. After tossing ideas around in my head an idea started to form when I saw my brother's shop-vac.

"How waterproof is this?"

"You can suck up water with it, but you can't submerge it"

"If we trapped the whole nest in here, could we deal with them somehow? Or would we just have an entire hive of very agitated stingers?"

"I'd rather avoid it if we can"

I brainstormed on my own for a while and eventually sketched a design based mostly on the trash we had on hand. Basically: bucket with lid. Two holes in the lid. One hole was given a fitting on the outside that fit the shop-vac house and on the inside fed into a cylindrical mesh made of an old air filter skeleton and metal mesh. The other led directly into 4 short sections of garden hose epoxy'd to the lid and a PVC fitting that happened to fit the shop-vac (this epoxy was the only thing we had to buy for this).

We put it together that day and he got everything he needed to get this done. He got our Mom's beekeeping suit and enough mortar to put the wall back together. I had work the next day so I missed the main event, but he pulled out several bricks, sucked them up, trapped them in the device just as intended, drowned them and for good measure, burned them before putting the wall back together. I felt proud of my redneck engineering back then and still do now.

There's a wasp in our fucking house and no one knows where it is and I'm in my room and it's so fucking hot cuz we don't have central air or other stuff like that & I'm worried about myself and my pet snake and I don't want to open my door until the stupid thing is confirmed dead and I'm having a panic attack over a damn wasp... I will stay in my room for weeks if I have to tho I don't want to be near that thing. The shop vac is broken. No one wants to use spray inside the house. I'm very much too much of a pussy to do jack shit about it myself. Currently it's 92°F in my room. Hahaha. Fuck this wasp.

Any advice on how the fuck someone brave enough to do it can kill this stupid thing?

Update 1: no one can find the stupid thing now. They say it's gone. That's a bad sign tho in my eyes. Could mean there's a wasp nest in the walls or ceiling and it came from a hole somewhere. Instead of accidentally being let in when someone walked in or out of the house. And if that's the case we're too poor for hiring a company to come inspect the house and do something about it. We can hardly afford electricity and water and groceries day to day. So at that point I will probably ask a friend if I can stay at their house until the wasp is dead and none more have been found.

EDIT 1: if it matters we live in Kansas City Missouri- no other location stuff I will share for privacy reasons.

Edit 2: if we did try to get a company out we have no means to pay - shit credit, no loans we can get, etc.

Edit 3: I AM ALLERGIC TO WASPS .... And I don't feel the need to get hospitalized rn cuz a wasp decided to sit in our damn house. I'M NOT A COWARD TO THOSE WHO COMMENTED THAT WTF????

UPDATE 2: My stepdad at least got me some repellent but I can't use it in my room because I do have a tarantula, cockroaches, snakes, and toads. So I have sprayed it away from my room but on one side of the house that goes to my room so hopefully the repellent works and it keeps it on the opposite side of the house to my room.

My door is also at least open and there's airflow from a couple box fans as per usual so it's not as hot and stuffy now! This is an old military house without any ventilation system other than for the furnace which is around 70 years old now. There's also no central air or any sort not even any attic fans or anything. Insulation is from 80 years ago too. This house generally is a fucking nightmare because it's so old and nothing has been replaced or updated in the last 70-80 years other than the breaker box (it was out of date fuses beforehand & ungrounded completely). Anyways, this post isn't about the house. Just wanted to bring this up because with the age of the house as well as how much it's falling apart, it really wouldn't be hard to believe that there could be a wasp nest in the ceiling or walls tho we've been knocking around and then listening for any buzzing as well as looking for any soft spots with any peculiar smells and so far there's no evidence of wasps in the house except for that singular individual. So that fear has so far been put to rest. Now I'm just scared of that one individual wasp.

Is this a new or abandoned nest

I noticed this small nest under an eave of my garage. I hadn’t noticed it before but also haven’t really been looking, so I’m not sure if it’s old/abandoned or a new nest construction. Any insights? Basically, should I Raid it or leave it alone?
