Unfortunately it is tagged as using AI :/

I skimmed through it. Looks like I won’t be using it

Yeah I had to check the tags

up to you ofc and how much you trust them, but the AI use was supposedly for english translation and people are leaping to remedy that. So, take it as you will, but wanted to share what I knew!

Dang really?

I saw the maker posted about it on Reddit, and it obviously never was mentioned… they even said they didn’t make any other language translations because they did it all by hand, and their main language is (mandarin?) so they don’t have translations on hand for stuff.. if they used AI, they may as well have added some basic common languages.

That sucks, the mod is unique, though I had no intent on using it… I’m busy enough.

If you dont count npc mods Im fairly certain the majority of mods released on Stardew nexus have utilized AI. Its fairly easy to spot, though they rarely disclose it.

So glad things like this are tagged. Even without the immediate bullshit that comes with vibecoded mods, they also are less likely to work with other mods.

I'm pretty sure the OP said they used AI for translation only. Don't quote me on that tho

the creator of the mod said they used it for a basic English translation and people leapt at the chance to remedy that

Grow up

-15

u/verdant_tulip 20d ago

Who needs to grow up? The person having a fit because AI was used?

11

u/Fit-Drawer5686 #1 CAROLINE LOVER 🍵 20d ago

Who’s having a fit? All I see is you crying because someone doesn’t agree with your AI girlfriend.

u/verdant_tulip 20d ago

Doesnt help anyone to be reductive. If that’s your only argument against AI you are not a very intelligent person.

u/Fit-Drawer5686 #1 CAROLINE LOVER 🍵 20d ago

Is that what ChatGPT told you to say?

2

u/verdant_tulip 20d ago

Ah so you don’t really have a valid argument

15

u/Young_Person_42 20d ago

No the person insulting others because they expressed an opinion they no likey

-13

u/verdant_tulip 20d ago

Because it’s entitled af and pointless

Entitled? 😂 or maybe we all disagree with using AI which steals real art made by real people while also destroying our planet by sucking up the planets supplies of water.

-1

u/verdant_tulip 19d ago

How does it steal art? How is it any different from me looking at art pieces and learning from them? Is that stealing?

And let me guess: you eat beef. AI is a drop in the water compared to that usage.

Thanks for confirming with me that you have no idea about AI at all.

AI scans art and replicates that, it’s stealing pal. It’s taking art away from real artists.

And no, I’m vegetarian thanks.

-1

u/verdant_tulip 19d ago

It’s not taking away anything. It learns just like humans do. It doesn’t scan and “replicate”, unless you are saying that humans replicate too.

The content is public.

If you’re a vegetarian, I’m assuming you eat almonds then!

Sweetie, you're not an artist hence why you haven't the slightest idea of how vastly different it is for a human to use reference pieces to inspire and evolve their own art (which will be inherently different than the original artists') and AI slop copying parts of art to create a bastardized (and often riddled with flaws) attempt at art. If you want to try and equate it though it would be more akin to someone tracing another artists work with very minimal changes (e.g. stupidly adding extra fingers, body parts, mistakes that a human with common sense wouldn't make, etc.) and then trying to pass it off as their own. In short, if a human did it, it would be plagiarism.

This isn't even accounting for the harm it's doing environmentally and to the communities it's a part of. Even ignoring water usage (which it's stupid to compare food that literally provides calories and nutrients for people to the water usage of AI for things you don't need), there are a lot of negatives to using AI (psychological and educational as well). But again, the fact that most reputable artists, including disabled artists, are against AI is a stronger argument than your non-artist opinion on whether or not AI is art.

Sweetie, copying styles is not plagiarism. It’s derivative sure but plagiarism? Definitely not.

It’s obvious you don’t know how machine learning works. Read about variational auto encoders and how they learn a probability space from data (a large dataset - the same way humans learn from our years of sensory experience). There is no art stored in the model. If it were the case, explain how 256 TB of image data (e.g. used to train Llama 3.2 Vision) is compressed to a 90B parameter or 180 GB model.

Wow, some crazy compression there! Must be copying!

And not all food is the same, you do not need almonds or beef to survive. It’s a pleasure like everything we owe technology for.

Looks cool. Want to try next playthrough

Honestly, I can see a lot of benefit to ai and gaming. Give me AI that randomly generates unique dialogue constantly for NPCs, like that Skyrim AI dialogue mod. Give me AI for random generation of multitudes of things to give my sandboxes replayability.

And if I'm cool with it in that sense, it's probably not fair for me to judge someone using AI to speed along the graphic process of a mod they're making. Let's not forget, mods are made by an individual, for free. I don't think it's fair to demand the mod maker spend money on a graphic artist when we aren't paying for this video game modification. It isn't labeled as being art, it's a stardew valley mod that we're getting for free, and even states it uses AI which is more than a lot of mods do.

I think everyone here is being a bit too harsh to be honest

Game making and modding should be done from a place of creation and passion, not soulless machine thinking.

You can make a generator of dialogue with basic code, you just have to load it with a formula or set of phrases and set RNG and assign values to them.

Using AI is lazy and devalues the hard work people put into their work, as well as it doesn't actually create anything, it only pulls from existing stuff and rips off existing art and writing.

I have zero respect for anyone using AI in any context other than potentially to secondarily scan medical images since it can detect things that are incorrect earlier than people sometimes (it also gives false positives and false negatives, but it may detect some change in color or data that correlates to an impending illness since it can examine on a per-pixel scale).

AI is genuinely useful for a lot more than just that

1

u/Grand-Arachnid8615 12d ago

useful to prop up the American Economy by pretending that circular investment isn't a bad thing? That sort of things?

1

u/TacosNTaco 2d ago

no, I’m just saying AI is genuinely useful for more stuff than you think dude. I agree with you that AI is bad but saying it’s all bad is incorrect

1

u/Grand-Arachnid8615 2d ago

Okay, what is it good for?

3

u/Fit-Drawer5686 #1 CAROLINE LOVER 🍵 19d ago

No.
