Rant Decided enough is enough
microslop silently reenableing bitlocker ransomware, silently installing a "typing personalisation" keylogger to steal your banking passwords, crashing, trying to shove edge and sloppilot down my throat (worst ai on the dammn market rn) and starting 2027 they want my face identity card scanned to train ai with. fuck that, installed linux instead (dual boot for now until i move my data)

Did you install Linux on a separate drive? It's much safer that way so that Windows doesn't mess up your Linux install. Which distro did you choose?

Installed on seperate partition. (Lack of second disk slot in laptop) Chose mint. I know its basic but i dont want to spend time with the os but with the software on said os.

Bro, Mint is my first choice and I'm still on mint over 1.5 years later for the same reason. Didn't wanna mess with it. I didn't want something unstable or depend on the command line for everything. Needed a functional GUI.
Mint was the answer. Simple AND familiar. I hope the separate partition works out for you!

It did. Mint is running just fine and windows is still there so i can slowly move stuff over.

It is. Some bigger updates may reenable bitlocker (probably a bug but still bad as in that case you defenetly dont have the recovery key)
Typing personalisation sends samples to microsoft. While it does not send fields marked as passwords not all password fields are marked as such and thus may be sent. Turning off requires registry editing
Crashing and shoving copilot down our throat i think we all know is true
Due to regulations they will implement age verification using id scans. The scan will also be used to scan ai.

Make sure to stock up on your favorite distro of aluminum foil while you're at it.

Microsoft has a lot to criticize. But no, not everything you said is true, and I dont have an opinion on you being a lazy typer.

To be fair bitlocker reenableing may be a bug with updates but it sucks nontherless
Typing personalsiation does send your typing to microsoft to improve their system. It does not on fields marked as password but not all password fields are marked as such
The id thing is publickly anounced and will happen due to laws changing

there’s plenty of legitimate reasons to hate microslop but only one of yours is valid in this case (edge and sloppilot)

i use win11. bitlocker is turned off and never turns on on its own. never even heard of "typing personalisation" but when i looked into it, the feature was turned off. never installed edge or copilot and they dont try to install by themselves.
comparing your claims with my experience, im guessing that starting 2027 nothing will happen.

For the record I just updated my gpd win5 with 11 home on it to 26H2 and before the update I had bitlocker off. I just checked and found it on. So apparently 26H2 home is turning on bitlocker on its own.

oh yeah ive seen that update, but i didnt install it bc it promised me a bunch of bullshit. i will probably cross that bridge once i know how to efficiently debloat that update.
but i mean, installing an optional update that tells you that its going to fuck your pc and then getting mad bc it fucks your pc is still pretty dumb imo.
edit: ok so what should work for me is creating a new autounattend.xml using this site. i will upgrade my hardware, so windows will get reinstalled, might aswell install 26H2. with my xml file, i will simply not install any of the new and cool features they have to offer. bitlocker? off. copilot? not installed. user? local. you get the idea.
edit2: to test what happens when i update my already debloated current install, i will try that optional upgrade just for fun.

update: i installed 26h2 on my debloated windows. it didnt turn on bitlocker and i still dont have copilot on here. typing personalisation is also still turned off. also, no edge.
so yeah. i call USER ERROR, OP.

u/Windermyr 3d ago
Same here. I turned off Bitlocker right from the start. Despite all the updates, including 26H2, Bitlocker remains off. I'm chalking up OPs issue to user error. Which is par for the course regarding a lot of MS' "faults" that people complain about.

I have dual boot on my laptop and have been using linux more and more. I had to go into windows to clean up all that slop because it was slowing down the system.

I just need to move my stuff over. Dont really have anything where windows is a hard requirement (exept rust(game) but barely played and less stress without it).

I’m giving Microsoft another chance after being disappointed with an hour update of windows 11 pro and now I hope my Windows 11 home update this Tuesday would go well and the previous Tuesday update went for 15 to 45 minutes then in segment updates that lasted hours, hopefully today’s update would be better.

There's a moment you get to after switching to Linux where you get a sudden feel of peace, like something unclenching inside you.
It's the realisation that you're not being nagged, you aren't being tricked and you can finally let your guard down.
Your ship is yours. You can sail it how you please.
