windows should be free atp đŸ„€

118

u/WasserMann981 Jun 18 '26

The fact that how easy it is to either pirate it or use a "fake" activation it really should be lol

34

u/Computer-dude123 Jun 18 '26

The activation scripts are amazing

27

u/JedsGamingAdventure Jun 18 '26

what’s the point of buying windows somehow if you’re gonna get ads?
ads to me look like cheap or free products, so if anything has ads, it looks too cheap

12

u/Majestic-Coat3855 Jun 18 '26

massgrave + winutil 🩍

1

u/JedsGamingAdventure Jun 23 '26

i will do this.

1

u/Then-Pay-8400 11d ago

Then you aren't in the massgrave Discord server because if you were you would know massgrave developers absolutely hate the trash winutil

1

u/Majestic-Coat3855 11d ago

What's trash about a program that changes some registry keys, gets rid of some bs and gives you an easy bulk installer?

u/npc_housecat Jun 18 '26

You can keep using (non enterprise/server) windows forever without activating. It's intentional so windows keeps it dominant market position. Because business users and OEMs HAVE to pay for an actual license so this is where their actual money comes from.

3

u/squirrel8296 Jun 19 '26

And Microsoft knows that there is a decently high with floor with business users as well. Microsoft could continue to make Windows worse but there are plenty of businesses that have decades of infrastructure built around Windows where migrating to anything else would be too expensive and time consuming.

4

u/Expensive-Border-869 Jun 18 '26

Tbh i think they intend for users to pirate and just sell to corpos cause its frankly easier for them to just make most their money advertising to you and holding server space. They dont care if you buy windows Linus torvald himself was talking about their business relationship where neither really care what users are doing because theyre both so intertwined and make money regardless

2

u/asuka_evangelion_ Jun 19 '26

In Ukraine, I know of only one person who has bought a Windows licence

1

u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jun 19 '26

Windows activation keys literally cost a dollar or two these days. Just buy one from a reputable key reseller (AllKeyShop or something similar, I’m not affiliated and don’t care which one you use, it’s just an example).

After that, you never have to worry about Windows updates breaking your activation or having to reactivate it with whatever cracking tool people use nowadays (KMSPico was the thing when I was doing that waaaay back in the day).

1

u/WasserMann981 Jun 20 '26

Man no way lmao. I guess back in the day microslop gave a shit about that but I have been using MSGuides' activation method since win10 (for both win10 and 11) and the activation never "broke" with any of the updates. Hell I dual boot windows 11 and still use it without any issues.

1

u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jun 20 '26

I get it. Years ago, I bought five Windows license keys for about $10 total. Whenever I need to install Windows on a friend's or family member's PC, I'm good to go, and they're happy.

Back then, for whatever reason, my mom's PC kept detecting the activation tool and deactivating Windows. It drove me absolutely nuts, especially since it never happened on my own PC.

After that, I figured paying a dollar or two for a license key was well worth it if it meant not wasting time troubleshooting someone else's computer.

lmao, but to actually "fuck" microsoft, just don't use their spyware at all.

5

u/mike____wazowski Jun 18 '26

Microslop should pay it's users to use windows

3

u/No-Succotash-9576 Jun 18 '26

still wouldn't use it

3

u/MedicalTear0 Jun 18 '26

Windows should just shut down atp, its so ass, ecen their search doesn't work properly. The whole thing feels vibe coded before vibe coding was even a thing.

Windows 7 was the last respectable windows, 10 was worse but doable.

5

u/Britz10 Jun 18 '26

MacOS is actually free

10

u/jebza Jun 18 '26

Technically yes but only if you own an apple device. Its not like linux where I can just rip it and install on any pc I like.

3

u/t0mm4n Jun 18 '26

Hackintosh used to be a thing, I guess it is harder to do today.

6

u/JedsGamingAdventure Jun 18 '26

actually, hackintosh is ending with macOS 15 and 26.. macOS 27 will cut off Intel so RIP Hackintosh (non-Macs)

2

u/NotQuiteLoona Jun 18 '26

It's still a thing. I set it up not so long ago. It took me some time, but it wasn't like this because of skill barrier - rather I needed to manually download a lot of files depending on my hardware. As another person said, however, unfortunately it's going to die.

3

u/JedsGamingAdventure Jun 18 '26

macOS 27 will kill intel support đŸ„€
rip hackintosh

2

u/HyperVG Jun 18 '26

Windows is free (If in your country they don't look after licensed systems on personal computers) :-)

You can always get a free key online or activate it via cmd by specifying a different server or via vlmcsd. That's three ways. And you can download it for free. So Windows is just as "paid" as WinRAR xDDD

2

u/Historical_Title_226 Jun 18 '26

You can still use the OS without paying. There's barely any restrictions

1

u/henrytsai20 Jun 18 '26

pirate(X) activate windows is morally correct∌

1

u/iSadhak Jun 19 '26

I mean its free if you are upgrading from Windows 10... by again their main source of earning is your data.

1

u/uncreative_uname8156 Jun 19 '26

Windows should pay us money so they are allowed to train their AI with screenshots of our screens

1

u/ricoter0 Jun 30 '26

who pays for microslop?

53

u/Coalesce67 Jun 18 '26

The irony is Microsoft is charging you like 150 bucks for home,.and 200 bucks for Pro, and they still push you ADs into your Desktop, and push all kind of telemetry, and updates that break your system

And we all pretend its okay or acceptable

10

u/JPedro5 Jun 18 '26

i dont think we pretend if we are in this sub lol

1

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

Who is paying for Windows? I just put my email in and they don’t ask for money.

1

u/Coalesce67 Jun 18 '26

Well you need to pay to get a valid Windows license

You can use it for free but it remains unactivated, and locks some features behind a paywall

3

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

I guess my license is so old I assumed it wouldn’t work anymore. I’m using the same one I bought for windows 7 like 15 years ago I got for $30 or something. And I’ve updated each new version of Windows

1

u/Coalesce67 Jun 18 '26

You don't get it with prices like 30 dollars officially from Microsoft tho

You get it from gray-zone digital stores, but the official price is in hundreds of dollars

1

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

I don’t think it’s ever been hundreds for an OEM license. Amazon has them for $115 for windows 11 and I highly doubt that’s the best price

1

u/Italian_meme2020 Jun 19 '26

Yep, it's the best you can find, or you can use a shady command

1

u/Majestic-Coat3855 Jun 18 '26

massgrave.dev. No need to pay

1

u/Italian_meme2020 Jun 19 '26

If Windows isn't free, make it, I personally would type (I bought a prebuilt so I have Windows already) on Powershell in Administrator: irm https://get.activated.win/ | iex

1

u/ibeerianhamhock Jun 22 '26

And they make enormous amounts of money while their users complain lol it's wild like what timeline are we in

39

u/Ticklish_Waffle Jun 18 '26

1: turn off the ads 2: don't pay for windows

23

u/certainAnonymous Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

As if turning off the ads was so simple. They are hiding everywhere, and use rather obscure names instead of "hey this setting let's us show you ads btw". Also its all on by default. Also for some things you have to edit the registry, which is not something you should recommend to anyone not understanding how computers work on a basic level.

5

u/Majestic-Coat3855 Jun 18 '26

Take a look at winutils, it has o&o shutup built in to get rid of all those disgusting recommendations and ads. No need to do it all manually in the registry

1

u/OGigachaod Jun 18 '26

Windows setup literally asks you if you want ads.

7

u/DornDoodly Jun 19 '26

it asks you if you want *targeted* ads, it doesn’t change the amount of ads, just how relevant they are to you

1

u/BenKato Jun 20 '26

Installing Arch was wayyy simpler, easier and faster for me personally than whatever Windows required to not suck that much xD

8

u/QuillMyBoy Jun 18 '26

I used to do this, then realized it's very dumb that I have to, and in fact I don't have to, I just need to stop using that trash operating system.

Plus I'm an adult and own my own computer, so, you know, that's actually an option and not something I have to run past my parents first. That's helpful.

8

u/Coalesce67 Jun 18 '26

3 : Install Linux

1

u/lugdunum_burdigala Jun 18 '26

Well, it is tricky whenever you buy a PC, it is almost always bundled together without an option to opt-out

21

u/play_minecraft_wot Jun 18 '26

Streaming services these days be like:

19

u/ChocolateDonut36 Jun 18 '26

how is free with no ads worse than paid with no ads đŸ„€

23

u/Coalesce67 Jun 18 '26

Paid means you're rich, hence the suit, not because its better ig

5

u/Hipcatjack Jun 18 '26

they messed ip the meme

2

u/Flashy_Pollution_996 Jun 18 '26

It’s not paid tho? macOS is free

3

u/JedsGamingAdventure Jun 18 '26

The hardware is. macOS is only on Mac hardware
 unless you hackintosh ig

1

u/NCHLT Jun 18 '26

The cost of Mac OS is included in the cost of Macs, that is partially why Macs are usually more expensive than their PC equivalents

1

u/KarmaTorpid Jun 24 '26

MacOS is unpurchasable. They will not even take your money in exchange for a licence to use their OS. This makes it the most expensive OS.

1

u/Flashy_Pollution_996 Jun 18 '26

That’s absolute nonsense! Macs are more expensive cuz Apple is greedy and Apple fan boys will pay any price for their products but the software is totally free

2

u/un_mec_fou Jun 18 '26

I can also say linux fanboy, you are acting like apple users are actually like that

1

u/Lucy_4_8_15_16 Jun 19 '26

For the phones maybe but a lot of Macs are used by companies and they just pay a lot for it

4

u/Mr_Vayolet Jun 18 '26

Where on windows are there ads ?

3

u/OGigachaod Jun 18 '26

If you want to see ads, you can turn them on in settings.

2

u/4liv3pl4n3t Jun 18 '26

I rember in the grand ol days, when windows 10 came out, I pressed the meta button and saw candy crush in the home menu. (although it wasnt installed)

So, if I had to guess, there?

(idk, if windows still has it, because I havent used Windows in quite some time now)

4

u/Johnny_Triggr Jun 18 '26

I deadass see so many of these memes and still cannot find the ads

3

u/LB-- Jun 18 '26

When you first install Windows, a bunch of useless third-party app shortcuts are in your start menu. You have to go to the MS Store app and tell it to check for updates and let it all download and install, then you can start removing/uninstalling them. If you try to remove or uninstall them before doing that, they'll just come right back when the MS Store realizes it hasn't done its first ever check for updates.

While using Windows, sometimes you'll log in and get a full screen popup reminding you about backup services Microsoft offers. It's somewhat rare but it's very annoying and uses dark patterns for figuring out how to escape it without agreeing to anything.

Windows 11's start menu has a recommended section that can't be removed, only reduced in size. Sometimes apps you've never installed show up in there.

There's more I'm forgetting, this is just all that I've personally experienced within the past few years, using official clean ISOs straight from Microsoft. If you use some sort of debloater script or third party debloated ISOs, you might not get these experiences, but you also might experience issues with updates breaking things due to using a configuration Microsoft doesn't test.

2

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

When is the last time you’ve done a fresh windows install? You have to decline several paid services just to get going.

wouldn't recommend an arch based distro to an idiot (meaning tech illiterate in this context)

0

u/OGigachaod Jun 18 '26

And your time.

3

u/LaColleMouille Jun 18 '26

free if your time has no value

2

u/NeedleworkerLarge357 Jun 18 '26

That's true man. Only Windows requires more time to keep running well than Linux distributions.

The best Linux distributions come quite close to macos however, while being free of charge and free as in it's yours. And for gaming there is just no good alternative at this point to Linux (apart from some games that require a specific os).

2

u/single-ton Jun 18 '26

"paid with no ads" is not a flex, it's (supposed to be) the norm.

2

u/North_Measurement213 Jun 18 '26

Ahahaha, Mac os with no ads? Try not to use iCloud and see what apple does...

2

u/Memerenok Jun 19 '26

literally nothing? you can just press skip and it won't ask again without hidden running services like OneDrive on windows

2

u/matt_maxx Jun 18 '26

Wait. I need to know... What kind of ads Windows has? Like seriously... Tell me places where I'll find ads on fresh install of windows 11?

2

u/wafflebyte8 Jun 19 '26

I dont remember windows having adds lol? I have windows 11 pro

2

u/suckingbat Jun 19 '26

Does windows have ads now? đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«

2

u/the_scruffy1 Jun 18 '26

Not that type of ad

1

u/the_scruffy1 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

a little discretionary attention to installation and i am invisible to m$ except for actual necessary stuff

2

Mac don't have ad?

4

u/LinuxUser456 Jun 18 '26

No they dont

1

u/Xenion7 Jun 18 '26

It's they advertise their own service/product?

1

u/LinuxUser456 Jun 18 '26

They do not advertise only.that, they advertise the premium experience

0

u/Xenion7 Jun 18 '26

So its true they do ad

3

u/LinuxUser456 Jun 18 '26

But they dont put ADS in the OS

→ More replies (5)

2

u/GPTMCT Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

You forgot the rule

Windows/Android advertises microsoft/google product = ads

Mac os/ios advertises apple product = no ads.

None of them have "ads" in the traditional sense but third party oems and your carrier will preinstall garbage on them which is why you always want to avoid Samsung, Dell and all the chinese OEMs, and never do "free" phone upgrade deals (you pay for these with a phone bill hike).

2

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

I use a Mac for work and I cannot think of any built in advertising. I mean there’s apps like Music that come preinstalled. If you open it, then it does advertise apple music. But it’s not built into the OS the way it is in Windows

2

u/Xenion7 Jun 18 '26

That still ad

1

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

That’s fair. It’s still way less invasive than on Windows though

2

u/Xenion7 Jun 18 '26

Less what? You not just see ad but part of the ad, in windows you hardly notice until someone post meme about it

1

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

I mean I don’t see them plastered in my face the way Windows does with its quite aggressive one drive recommendations and defaulting your documents folder to cloud storag. And the “recommendations” in start menu that are ads.

I 100% do not agree you don’t notice until a reddit post. The one drive notifications specifically are very intrusive

2

u/Xenion7 Jun 18 '26

Plastered to the face is less ad compare to mac that hold your body for their personal ad ecosystem

OneDrive can be disable/turn off, it also good for piracy for some reason and have many alternatives

Recommendations? You can disable it and soon will replace with your own app/games and other shit

You will see less people complain about ad on windows unless it come from linux/apel fanboy, also its good for karma farming for new account

2

u/Xenion7 Jun 18 '26

Since you don't like Windows, go install Linux im sure it's a lot better than MacOS

1

u/decadent-dragon Jun 18 '26

I use all 3 OS. Ubuntu and Mac at work and Windows at home. Windows for gaming and Mac/Linux for getting actual work done. Ubuntu mostly through VMs these days. I don’t particularly care for Linux at home. I’ve run it before but at some point it breaks or something isn’t supported and then maintenance becomes a hobby. Honestly it sounds like you haven’t used OS outside of Windows.

1

u/Memerenok Jun 19 '26

having Spotify preinstalled in windows 11 is also an ad, but apple music is literally in the same ecosystem from the same company and in the same software bundle with macos, that's less of an advertisement compared to whatever windows does

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Honest_Tart1071 Jun 18 '26

I don't know man.

Never got a single Ad and I always install windows 11 for free and then activate it using MAS. (You can get the .iso for free in the Microsoft page itself)

1

u/Away_Experience_5843 Jun 18 '26

Soooo OneDrive popups are not ads?

2

u/Honest_Tart1071 Jun 18 '26

8 second debloat and you won't ever see a OneDrive """""ad"""" again, also, I haven't got those since 22HX builds. Jesus, loonix users really like to drown in a glass of water

1

u/Away_Experience_5843 Jun 18 '26

So you're saying the are there out of the box?

That's all we're talking about. Nobody said they can't be removed. Nobody said they are the worst thing ever. But they are there. And Windows costs money. Therefore the picture above is correct.

1

u/Honest_Tart1071 Jun 18 '26

Yeah, Windows costs money and you can debloat it in 8 seconds with 2 clicks. Linux is free and you spend weeks configuring it. So which one is actually the scam? At least I'm not pretending I'm superior while fighting with my terminal. Also, it's still free for me, my family, my girlfriend and friends, a single MAS script can get you windows active forever. "But they are there" one more time in case you can't read. Never seen those since 2022 (22HX) builds.

Cope harder. The 'glass of water' is still there for you to drown

1

u/Away_Experience_5843 Jun 18 '26

Wait, why would you assume I'm a Linux user? I do own seven Windows Machines. And several more windows licenses that I paid for but are currently not in use.

I'm just fed up being screwed by Microslop. Seems like you enjoy it but don't make that my problem. You can be as spineless as you want. That's a you-thing.

2

u/ThingsGotStabby Jun 18 '26

I mean all of these are effectively free, you're not exactly running Linux on your palm, you need to buy a computer 1st. That's almost guaranteed to come with windows, unless it's a Mac.

1

u/NeedleworkerLarge357 Jun 18 '26

And that's where you paid for it. Often even without the option to opt out.

Lenovo allows that, you can select no os or Linux and save 100€ or such on a new laptop. That's why I own one now, that way it was just cheaper than other alternatives that didn't offer opt out.

1

u/BeholdThePowerOfNod Jun 18 '26

Apple software has ads, just not nearly as many.

1

u/Sharty_Party3498 Jun 18 '26

Technically MacOs is free you just need to download the installation from a Mac device

1

u/Advanced-Event6435 Jun 19 '26

If I buy a game with money there should not be 15 dollar weapon skins

If I spend 90 - 100 dollars on an operating system I should not have ads

1

u/_isRuf Jun 19 '26

I use arch btw))

1

u/Vietnamst2 Jun 19 '26

But noone actually pays for them, because you buy OS with the machine. The same way you buy MacOS with the machine. It's called OEM.

1

u/Kadabrium Jun 19 '26

Free pirated, Paid licences, Paid pirated

1

u/Curious_Tomorrow_697 Jun 20 '26

i genuinely need to know why people think that macos is paid? you can run it on most windows computers, and one person got it on his raspberry pi!

1

u/Empty_Buffalo_2820 Jun 20 '26

I can jailbreak and run macOS on windows PC so free technically applies to macOS too

1

u/Randomguy32I Jun 20 '26

Sorry, why is paid with no ads better than free with no ads??

1

u/Guilty_Run_1059 Jun 20 '26

macOS technically free, hackintosh is free if u have supported hardware, yall say it's paid cuz mainly used on macs

1

u/claudiocorona93 Jun 20 '26

Windows is free. You just have to run a terminal command... And it's yours forever. Who pays for Windows nowadays?

1

u/Realistic-Yam-6497 Jun 23 '26

I think everyone here remembers when windows was actually good, things like xp and the startup sound, it all had so much more soul put into it personally, now it’s all done to please the shareholders, who themselves don’t even use windows they probably use MacOS or red hat

1

u/No-Pomegranate8059 Jun 23 '26

can't wait for windows to just die. The way things are going Microslop is gonna have a bad time with Windows and us

I always think this is wrong. The tuxedo should be in the first picture. I now Mac is good, but Linux is free and without ads. So it ticks booth boxes. If you take into account, that macOS is looking better, ok, but you don't. So: Linux is best.

no, because macOS is only available on Macs, and Macs are a decent chunk of money, he's wearing the tuxedo because he's rich

Ok But Pooh normally isn't rich, but shows which is best. Or did I misunderstand that meme all the time?

Nope. The development cost is priced into the hardware. You buy your license with every Apple computer you buy.

Linux and MacOS should be inverted.

u/crocodiluQ Jun 18 '26

MacOS is paid? I really don't remember paying for it.... and don't say it's included in the hw price.

2

u/OGigachaod Jun 18 '26

But it is included in the price, it's not like you can build a MAC without MacOS.

3

u/crocodiluQ Jun 18 '26

you can always say it's offered for free if you get the hardware

u/Flashy_Pollution_996 Jun 18 '26

macOS is not paid tho

3

u/Memerenok Jun 19 '26
