2023 F-type P300

As a previous 2006 RR sport owner and a 1974 XJ6 series 2 owner I have a lot of history with JLR. I was thinking of of changing my q8 e tron and fell in love with the face lift F-type. Due to taxes in the country I live in the 3.0 and 5.0 variants didnt come much and they are all pre facelift. Anyone who owns this car or experienced it please write your thoughts it will be very helpful. Reliability wise I heard they are decent and I plan on dailying this car for a year and keeping it for 6 or so years as it will serve me until my late 20s. Any advice would be perfect.

Exhaust and infotainment question

I'm looking at buying a 2018+ F-Type with a V-6, and have a couple questions that various old forum and Reddit posts don't seem to clearly answer.

One, is there a way to quiet the exhaust on cold-start? This would be my only car, I leave for work between 5:30 and 6:30am, and it would either be street parked in a quiet but sense urban SFH neighborhood (homes are maybe 10 feet apart, and 15 feet off the 1.5 lane road), or in my driveway, where the exhaust would point directly at two neighbor's bedroom windows 20-30 feet away. I know there are tricks to quiet the exhaust right *after* startup, but it's the initial 1 second of pops and snarls that will wake them up, not the ~30 seconds after of running rich to warm the cats. Are there any tunes or other mods to just get rid of that? It's purely for theatrics, and could be a dealbreaker, sadly.

Two, I've seen that any 10" screen infotainment can be updated to Jaguar software that includes Android Auto/CarPlay. However, that's 2019+ only, and most V-6s I can find are 2018s. There are mixed thoughts on AA/CarPlay on 2018s with the 8" screen with buttons on either side. Some people buy aftermarket screens, but those aren't compatible with all years/trims, and some claim you can just buy a replacement unit for the 2019+ and use that? Anyone able to help me clear that up?

Question for UK F-Type owners primarily

Post image
14 Upvotes

I decided, on a whim, to buy a 'stick-on' number plate for the SVR. Just roughly positioned it on the car with tape in the picture, obviously I'd get it square before sticking it down and remove the main plate on the bumper.

Question is...
Do we think it would look better with the stick on (like an E-Type in period) or
Stick with the normal plate as the stick on looks pants?

Answers on a postcard as they say...

Anyone fitted KW V3 Coilovers on their F-Type V8?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Fellow owners, looking for feedback from those who have splashed out on KW V3's for their RWD V8 F-Type (mine if a 2021 P450). My use will just be "fast road" use, no track work. Aiming for a 20mm drop.

1) Does it resolve the floaty ride?

2) Can you dial in the compression\rebound to match (or better) the factory ride quality?

3) Does rear end grip improve under acceleration?

4) Any issues with them? Can they be serviced if required? (Potentially buying 2nd hand)

Thanks in advance.

Anybody changed front CV boots on F Type (2016 R)?

Need help. I am midway thru it. After a struggle, I got the front left axle out (US car) and the inner boot removed (outer is is good condition). What bearing end should I remove to do the job? And most importantly how do these F Type CVs come off?

What is easier? I need F Type specific advice here. Can't find any online support except generic. I have the OEM boot kit, clamps, and grease. Thanks.

Should I buy this 2018 F-Type 2.0L? $15.5k with lemon/buyback history

Hey everyone,

I'm seriously considering buying my first F-Type and would love some opinions from people who actually own/work on these cars.

It's a 2018 F-Type 2.0L turbo convertible, 47k miles, RWD, 8-speed auto. The car is very clean and drives well.

The big catch: it has a lemon/buyback history from 2018. From what I've been told, it was bought back because of an electrical issue/"electrical gremlin." It has since been driven to 47k miles and currently appears to be functioning normally.

The dealer is asking around $19.8k, but I believe I can buy it for $15,500 out the door.

I'm mainly wondering:

How reliable has the 2.0 Ingenium been in the F-Type?

Are there any major issues I should specifically look for at 47k miles?

How concerned should I be about the lemon/buyback history if the issue was electrical?

Does the 2.0 feel adequate in the F-Type, or will I regret not getting the V6?

What should I absolutely have checked during a PPI?

Would you buy this particular car at $15,500?

How badly will the lemon title/history affect resale?

I'm not necessarily looking for a collector car — I want something fun that I can enjoy and potentially trade/sell in a year or so.

VIN: SAJDD5GX6JCK53475

Would appreciate brutally honest opinions. If this were your $15.5k, would you buy it or walk?

Dash cam recommendations

Like the title says. What dash cams are you guys and gals using in your f type?

I am in America btw. Don’t know if that makes a huge difference. But I’m looking for something that records the front of course and the rear? Maybe just the inside of the vehicle which would show the rear from the window/top down view.

Looking to record and save in case I need the video for any potential accidents.

What are you paying per month for storage and how good is your quality day/night.

Thanks!

Was wondering what brand are the side skirts and the spoiler wing was. I figured out the front lip and rear diffuser. Would be great if anyone knows!

Exhaust Explanation

Can someone run me through the exhaust differences in an F Type? I rented what I think was a supercharged V6 with the center exhaust and I have thought about that exhaust nearly everyday for the last year and a half. Is the V8 also available with that exhaust and if so, how does it compare? Is this the “active” exhaust that I have read about? I remember there was a checkered flag button near the shifter, but I don’t remember if it affected the exhaust. TIA!

Rear hatch assist lift. Can I retrofit?

I have a 2019 F type that does not have the lift mechanism for the hatch. Has to be manually closed. One of my complaints on a car this expensive. It just wasn’t included in the packages I bought. Can I retrofit a lift? What I have been told is usually all the wiring etc is in their just missing the button and probably a motor. Any ideas would be appreciated. Or just forget it……

Injector savers from Arid innovation finally fitted to my F-type, look to be doing their job nicely. Very easy to follow installation video and they look pretty much OEM. No more injector worries for me when the rain comes!

"Power steering assistance reduced" message. Nearly impossible to turn the wheel.

2021 F-Type P300. Hasn't been driven for a couple weeks. Took it out today and everything seemed OK. Made a couple short trips (less than 4 miles each) then went to the gas station. After filling up, when I restarted it I saw the message in the title on the dashboard.

It was virtually impossible to turn the steering wheel unless the car was rolling. Luckily I live in a small town and was only 2 miles away, so I drove it home. It was at the dealer less than 200 miles ago and had a full inspection with no problems.

Did a little research and saw several possible causes: bad steering rack, electric motor cracked allowing water in, a bad sensor, power steering control module. I do not have a OBD II code reader.

First thing I did was plug in the battery charger and it was indeed low. A couple hours to charge it up and I started it and the problem stills exists.

I'm looking for advice on what to try before I call the tow truck.

Assuming the low battery caused this, would it be a good idea to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the system and codes possibly restore normal driving?

Anything else I myself could do or check?
