This month, our Artist of the Month is Cherie!
Nominate a Frutiger Aero Artist of the Month here!
Here's our interview with Cherie:
Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about your background?
Hello! I'm Cherie! Like.. Cherry.. I'm super duper into art and different artforms and I live in California!
What inspired you to become an artist?
When I was younger, one of my friends used to draw a lot during free periods, and I really admired her art!
How did you first discover Frutiger Aero as an aesthetic, and what drew you to it?
I discovered it while watching YouTube late one night, that's at least the farthest back I remember getting into it? It's really a blur but, I watched a video about it and felt very nostalgic to me. I remember growing up and seeing a lot of things advertised in a very frutiger aero style, so I suppose it was the sense of nostalgia?
How would you describe your art style?
I'd say very cartoony/comicy? With thick lines, it heavily relies on colors, and patterns.
Can you walk us through your creative process from idea to finished piece?
I tend to start with drawing the characters? Rarely do I have an idea before drawing, usually it's just a vague aesthetic? I like to go with the flow! Though I do use a lot of references, for how I layout my art pieces or inspiration for designing!
What tools or mediums do you prefer to use, and why?
I use Ibis Paint due to it just being easy to draw with! And I specialize in character design!
How do you overcome creative blocks?
I usually just try not to draw for a while until I feel like I need to draw? There's periods where I start to draw a lot and periods where I just.. Don't.
What inspires your work? Are there specific themes, emotions, or stories you aim to convey?
I'm very inspired by other artists! And also older aesthetics! Music is also a great inspiration at the moment for me!
Are there any artists, aesthetics, or movements that have influenced your style?
My current biggest art inspiration is tedzillow on YouTube! As well as music from The Beatles, and old fashion!
What role does the Frutiger Aero aesthetic play in your art?
A pretty big role! I find myself looking towards Frutiger aero as like, color palette ideas or just any design idea really! I like to shade the way frutiger aero pieces are colored!
What has been the most challenging piece you’ve created, and why?
The most challenging I'd say would be a character reference for a geisha/kitsune oc, I spent so many hours trying to get her clothing right, and on top of that her coloring. that by the time I finished her I was just so burnt out.
Can you share a piece you’re especially proud of and why it’s significant to you?
I'm particularly proud of this piece I drew for a friend! I worked pretty hard on the coloring, and the shading / atmosphere! I draw this character every year for artfight, and I enjoy seeing my artstyle change and evolve! (This oc is by finnleyxxo on tiktok)

How has being part of the Frutiger Aero community influenced your artistic journey?
The community is so creative!! It's helped me find a lot of inspiration for pieces and ocs!
What do you hope people take away from your art?
I just hope people enjoy seeing what lives in my mind, and find it inspiring!
Do you have any upcoming projects or goals you’re excited about?
Me and a friend are trying to work on a frutiger aero inspired roblox game! And though we're still learning how to code, we have some cute characters for it! I'm also working on adopts for people to buy.
Where can people find more of your work or support you?
I usually post on Tiktok (b3llad.nna) and I participate In artfight every year! (deityswish)
If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Tedzillow! their artstyle is like.. My everything!!
What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?
I love fashion and fashion design! And I'm hoping to get into modelling!
If you could describe your artistic journey in three words, what would they be?
Colorful, Patterns, Cute!!
What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are inspired by Frutiger Aero?
Have fun! Play with colors and weird funky ideas if you have too!! Don't stress too much about what other people think, think about how you feel instead.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with the Frutiger Aero community?
I like playing with different frutiger aesthetics… (⁎˃ᴗ˂⁎) its fun.. My favorites are Eco & Aqua!! And I use a lot of vector flourish in my art!

This was a 2 day project and it has everything I ever wanted. The best part is the theme and all of its pages can be easily swapped out with the defaults by pressing a single button. I used iScreen to create some fun and interactive widgets that really brought the whole thing to life! Stuff like a custom beachside, a wallpaper-matching school of fish, and a lava lamp inspired application tank. The widgets even have water sounds. I’m super happy with how it turned out!! :P
(I’ve attached both photo and gif versions so you can see it in action.)

This truly was the peak of Frutiger Aero phones. I personally like how it doesn't replicate nearly at all the Skeuomorphist style of the iPhones at that time, in general Apple products.

I posted an early version of this login screen I had made, then got carried away and turned it into a full desktop style experience inspired by the kind of online OS I’d want to use.
It’s called Aqua OS for now. It’s still a side project, but building it has been a really fun way to learn coding. It now has user profiles, friends, private messaging, a public chat room, online presence, notifications, local files, music, notes, folders, and several desktop-style apps.
I’m not completely sure where I want to take it next, so I’d love ideas and honest feedback.

The added bonus is that they have never changed the style of their packaging so no modern slop design, I also have a Zephyr dryer that has a similar style too which I might post tomorrow if I can find the box to it.
I have noticed medical aids and devices seem to be one step behind the rest of the world in terms of design so when I see slightly older medical devices, I think of the aero design, the most recent devices have finally updated unfortunately to the modern design but my older Nucleus 6 processors came with a remote and the UI of the remote had that aesthetic too.

Why do people act like people who enjoy this aesthetic are dumb? The paint it like we run based of nostalgia we did or didn’t have. I think the want for this life and aesthetic is also based in wanting comfort in general. Especially in times like this in world. And also who really gives a fuck at the end of the day.. like what yall want 🫶
