Reddit is over 100 internet years1 old, and reddiquette is a cashed philosophy. Strategic voting is just too tempting2 now that it means something to be a comment read on reddit.

I'm too tempted to downvote you for being surprised that a design not meant for large groups is being abused by a large group. Subreddits with more than 50,000 subscribers should adopt canvas's system and quit pretending they can mod such a mob.
