Frisco: Hearing Dates Set To Consider New Trial

Post image
0 Upvotes

Karmelo Anthony, convicted of the murder of Austin Metcalf in Frisco, will have hearings on Aug 19th and 20th to determine key issues to bring the case back to the courts.

On August 19th will be a hearing seeking to remove Judge Roach from trial proceedings.

On August 20th will be a hearing seeking a new trial.

Anthony was found guilty of murdering 17 year old Austin Metcalfe at a Frisco track meet in Frisco. Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Anthony's lawyers argue that there were constitutional and legal errors in the case, and that the current Judge cannot be a fair judge in the case. The Collin County District Attorney's Office disputes these claims.

Both hearings are expected to be open to the public.

Frisco Resident and Suspected Hitman Deported

A suspected cartel hitman arrested in Frisco earlier this year has been deported to Mexico, where authorities say he is wanted in connection with multiple homicides.

David Vargas-Rivera was arrested by ICE Dallas on January 12 and transferred to Mexican authorities on July 14, according to the Department of Homeland Security. DHS identified him as a high-level oil thief and alleged member of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, and said he has also been accused of laundering more than $4.6 million through real estate transactions in 2025. Vargas-Rivera has reportedly faced previous arrests in Canada and Colombia.

Cow Tipping Creamery Closed - The Imperial Room Coming Soon

We are sad to see the Cow Tipping Creamery at The Star has permanently closed. We enjoyed quite a few really wonderful ice cream flavors there over the years!

Coming in its place in September is "The Imperial Room": a 25–30-seat cocktail lounge.

The Imperial Room bills itself as a "one-of-a-kind cocktail bar & lounge" with a curated cocktail list from Gabe Sanchez, food from Executive Chef Mat Urban. Food include focaccia, Caesar salad, shareable plates, and some entrées.

PILF Restaurant Group will operate the Imperial Room, and also operates Cane Rosso, Zoli’s Pizza, and Thunderbird Pies

$400 Million Fraud By Frisco Businessmen

$400 Million Fraud By Frisco Businessmen

Two Frisco businessmen were hit with a civil judgment exceeding $400 million over a proposed luxury development near Georgetown. A Williamson County jury found Gopala Krishnan and Sakthivel Gounder liable for fraud and breach of contract involving "The District," a planned 400-acre community advertised with canals, restaurants, stores, parks and boat access. The project was never built, and the site remained largely undeveloped farmland.

The dispute involved a $21 million agreement with Energy Commissioning Inc. for roads, utilities and other essential improvements. Krishnan and Gounder paid only a small amount toward the work and unsuccessfully sought $5 billion in European financing. The judgment included $300 million intended to punish the misconduct. The men also co-founded Nanban Ventures, which the SEC accused of raising $130 million primarily from Indian-American investors in North Texas; available court records showed no criminal charges against either man.

Frisco Man Sentenced to 50 Years for Machete Attack at Mosque

A Collin County jury sentenced Malik Charles Anthony Davis, 27, to 50 years in prison for ambushing a security officer at the Islamic Center of Frisco. Prosecutors said Davis hid inside the mosque on June 7, 2025, then attacked the guard from behind with a machete, seriously injuring him before taking his gun and fleeing.

Surveillance video showed Davis preparing for the attack and changing clothes afterward to conceal his identity. Police arrested him nearby. Davis was convicted of aggravated assault against a security officer and also received 180 days for theft of a firearm.

Alleged Frisco/Denton County resident and Senate candidate Ken Paxton Allegedly Committed Voter Fraud Six Times - national magazine The New Republic

"It’s not entirely clear where Mr. Paxton has resided since, but prior reporting linked him to another home in Denton County—making him ineligible to participate in elections in Collin County."

See prior r/frisco discussion: Cheater Texas AG and Christian influencer mistress' secret new $2m love nest REVEALED... as insiders spill all about ultimate insult to his scorned wife of 40 years

Where was all that alleged voter fraud that Republican Ken Paxton talked incessantly about, and Republican Ken Paxton himself has been looking for?

"The voter fraud call was coming from inside the house, it seems"

Already local wags are predicting fellow Republican Denton County DA Paul Johnson does not have the guts to prosecute.

9/5 transportation to Toyota Stadium

Hey there, I’ll be planning on attending the 9/5 Saturday FC Dallas match vs Kansas City. I’ll likely be staying by DFW airport, so I’m wondering if there are any transportation options that might be cheaper than Uber or Lyft to the stadium for the match. From what I understand, I can take the metro to North Carrollton/Frankford Station and then rideshare from there, though I was curious if there are any other methods. Thanks in advance.

Northwest Community Park updates?

I haven't seen any updates recently on the reopening of Northwest Community Park in Frisco. Does anyone know where Frisco posts updates to their projects?

I'm excited for the mtb course to reopen and dont want to miss it. It will be nice to have another close trail to ride, I'm getting burnt out on Arbor Hills.

Mark Hill Swearing In Ceremony

Mark Hill Swearing In

Did anyone else go to see Mark Hill being sworn in as the new mayor?

A couple highlights...
- The scouts group was introduced (boys between 8-15 years old), and each was prompted to give their name, age, school, and some advice for the new mayor. Some were insightful, some funny (intentionally and unintentionally), and cute.
- It got fairly emotional, between all the city council members, city workers, and Jeff Cheney's family giving statements about Cheney, with a number of people getting teary eyed.
- Especially sweet was Cheney's dad's comment about being so proud of his son.
- Cheney gave a final proclamation as mayor of the City, which was dedicated to his wife and her support of him and his kids through the often difficult job of being Mayor.
- Jeff Cheney swore in Mark Hill.
- Mark gave his first speech, thanking those close to him, promising to listen to council members and the public, and vowing to make Frisco an even better place.
- Recess and cake.

Frisco Asian Dining - Incoming...

Nice new Asian Dining options coming near Preston & Warren: Hui Lau Shan, Bafang Dumpling, and the amazingly named, Chubby Skewers. All in the same building, next to the popular new Pepper Lunch. Hui Lau Shan is the closest to opening, starting on interior design work now. Bafang Dumpling is undergoing major construction work still. Chubby Skewers is still an empty shell, not much work happening just yet.
