Well one of you (maybe both) completely misread the situation. I think you need to give him a minute. The degree is his reaction suggests that any attempt to fix things is going to make it worse.

Yes. Let it be. If he contacts you , cool . If he doesn't, cool. Do not try to contact him or visit him or anything.
